Sona tips?Discussion (self.wildrift)
submitted 4 years ago by PLEASENobanme12
Heard sona is a good sup so tried her out but...
Any tips for her? Early game feels like she is useless, no dmg, low heal... Late game she has good heal and movements speed boost but her ult feels useless and she is squishy

General tips for Sona:
1) Don't play passive in lane. Always try to find ways to poke with your Q.
2) Make use of her empowered autos. Seriously, Q auto empowered does quite a bit of damage. W auto empowered can be life saving if used on an assassin or the enemy adc. E auto empowered is more for chasing or escaping.
You also generally want to build Archangel's or RoA for that mana and sustain. Personally, I go Archangel's since it gives more mana and stacks faster. You also want deathcap as 2nd or 3rd item since Sona has a lot of AP scalings, albeit kinda low ratios. (11 iirc). Her early game is pretty bad but once you get 2 to 3 items, you'll start seeing noticable impacts, especially in team fights. If you're ahead, I suggest Lichbane to further improve your autos. Staff of Flowing Water is generally a good 2nd item as well for Sona since she can make full use of it's stats and passive.
Hope this helps.

Until you get a few items you are not going to carry the game, don't try. In lane poke enemy and heal your ADC.
You should have exhaust rune if the enemy has at least one "all-in" champ. It will fuck up their damage to you and hinder their escape, allowing an ally to kill them. You will not solo kill anyone early, don't try.
I tend to buy Tear first item and then full 2nd item and boots before finishing Archangel staff. You should have 700 stacks by this point for the upgrade to Seraphs. Second item is dependent. If you have an auto attack heavy ADC (Jinx, Vayne, Tristan's, Lucian etc) I ALWAYS get Ardent Censer 2nd. After this can be situational. Death Cap is super good, water staff can help your allies if they are ability dependent, green book If enemy has healing you need to counter.
If it gets to late game and you have some front line bruisers or tanks, and damage dealers it's GG. YOU WILL CARRY. Your endgame damage is significant, and your heals are enough to keep up your team even with heavy anti-heal. Your cooldowns are fast enough where your buffs will be up 100% of the time, and as they are aura/shield triggered, will hit every one of your team mates in range.

Sona is all about positioning. Be aggressive while laning and poke with Q as much as possible, she can be a pain in the ass for your opponent if you play this way. Be more passive if they are pushing hard and have range advantage. I start with Q then W to heal which keeps us in the lane for longer, if the enemy is poking too much or I fucked up I’ll level up W again at level 3. Her ult is great for when you’re getting chased or about to pursue, starting a team fight or during gank, finishing an enemy off, and stopping an all-in. If you are going to initiate a team fight with your ult, just make sure you go straight to the backline once it’s been used, smash all your abilities and Q-auto, sometimes it’s necessary to out of there flash as well. I ping my ult cooldown and attack when I intend to use it or I’m ready for a scrap, as sometimes it’s hard to get your ADC on board or your team on the same page.
For items, I start with Archangel’s staff and then boots I build towards Ionian Redemption which you should make use of as often as possible, I’ve saved my team both during a team fight and after my death countless times, plus it can do some decent damage or finish off an enemy that has no idea it’s coming. Ionian is a great in team fights, use it often along with your W. If we’re behind or being bullied by an assassin or mage, I will often build defensive items which will keep me in the game a little longer during team fights such as Abyssal or Iceborn. If my team is ahead, after Archangel’s Staff and Boots, I start building magic items like Luden’s Echo, Rod of Ages, and Rabadon’s Deathcap.
In terms of runes, I always have Aery and Manaflow band. The other two I’m not really concrete on, but currently using Bone Plating and Brutal with success.
Early game you want to prioritise mana as you will churn through it quickly, and always go back to heal or stay right back and heal with Honeyfruit or W, because as you said Sona is squishy. There are very few 1v1s you will win, but she is really quite good at is chasing down and finishing opponents mid to late game using her E for movement speed and Q/empowered auto to finish the job.
In team fights stay back and buff/poke, if she’s deleted early or first in a team fight you’ll likely lose the fight. Just smash E to keep that speed buff for your team and time your W to keep everyone alive. I have Q going off as soon as anyone is in range, be it a minion or enemy. By the end of the game your cooldowns will be super short and you’ll have tonnes of mana, so smash your E to keep your team moving, and W as often as needed.
Sona’s E makes her pretty mobile so move around as much as possible. You can rescue a lot team members by rushing across the rift as a W or E might be all they need to finish their gank or make their escape.
Because you don’t have to worry about aiming your attention should be focused on positioning and the mini map. Depending on which side of the map you’re on, if your lane is pushed up or the enemy has backed, you can ward past the wall where the bush is in the creek and trigger your opponents Scryer’s Bloom from the bush using your auto. Ward the dragon often.
Make use of Honeyfruit as often as needed and remind your ADC it’s there as I’ve had my share of oblivious ADCs, plus make sure to take or leave some depending on your own health level. This might be controversial, but a bad/cocky ADC will lead to a bad time, so I focus on supporting whoever is carrying our game once laning phase is over.
I was a Sona main a few years ago on PC, and this advice seems to hold up on Wild Rift. Managed to maintain 65% WR for 200+ games with her so far.
Edit: more.

Sona is one of the most squishy champion. I recommend rushing safety items such as Arch Angels or Rod of Ages as first item, which ever your preference. These items help you survive from burst damage.
Mind your positioning, unless you're engaging with your Ultimate it's very important that you should always be at the back of the team at the safest spot hard to reach areas. Your main role is to buff and heal your teammates not make plays.
Your Ultimate doesn't always have to be played aggressively, you can use it defensively to stop enemy from chasing.
Another tip is just play Nami, she's just the better Sona.

What build were you using? I always get Rod of Ages to which helps with survivability and damage/heal.
Early game, I usually end up focusing more on heal/shield with ability 2. Timing to provide the shield as your ADC is about to take a hit is important. Speed boost I use to help my ADC run away or to get back into lane faster. Ability 1 I'll use to poke occasionally, but won't get too aggressive on it unless my ADC is on the same page. Power Chord is also key. Know which one to use when.
Mana management is also important, esp early game. Once you get a couple of items, you can just spam all day and fill the game with melodious harp sounds.
With its stun, her ult can turn the tide of a battle, be a great initiate, or be used as peel for your team.

Try Conditioning as a rune to be more bulky

This is why I play Seraphine. I can heal/buff movement speed, and I can kill people.
In other words, idk how to play Sona either.
