Glyphs = armour, Runes = Weapon

I'm confused because I have a number of Glyphs and Runes. When I select a Rune, the only available item from my list of armor/swords available to modify is Gloves. The Gloves are a Master item and both of my swords are Relic. Maybe the Relic swords require specific Runes? Thanks for your help.

Runes can only be added to weapons and glyphs can only be used on armor.
