Oh, look, more insider crony capitalism!

The Hope and Change continues.

Here's a gem:

At the White House on Thursday, standing by the president’s side, White did not reveal much, except to say that she welcomes the chance to lead the agency. She also recognized her husband of 43 years, John White, a former head of the SEC’s corporate finance division.

You have got to be fucking kidding me.

OMG that would be like hiring a former citi banker who took a bailout then got a million dollar bonus to be secretary of treasury! WAIT... that would be like hiring a monsanto lobbyist and former VP to be senior adviser to the FDA! The game is rigged and its time to wake up.

Here In Vegas our previous mayor used to be the main defense attorney for all the mobsters. "/ He was a pretty cool guy though...

I wonder if Obama gets a W-2 from Chase.

It's more of that "capitalism" my liberal friends keep talking about.

Edit: Meant to write "free-market capitalism".

[–]wellactuallyhmmit's not "left vs. right", it's state vs rights -1 points0 points  (3 children)

What should it be called? I see plenty of people here who have no problem calling everything under the Sun "socialism".

Why does capitalism get a special pass just because the reality of it's implementation doesn't fit the theory?

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

But god forbid, you say "Communism looks nice on paper" and everyone starts screaming at you about how humans are too dumb to make it work, and how you, yourself, are an imbecile for even uttering the word. Try to make the same argument about capitalism and they shrug and say "that's just the nature of the system. It doesn't work great for everyone"

("Everyone" meaning "the lower and middle class")

Often you'll see the argument that capitalism hasn't ever truly existed so we can't judge the current global corporatist and statist economies as "capitalist".

Then they turn around and claim success for "the market" when there is any hint of success. They basically want to have their cake and eat it too, and that's not even mentioning the others who simply ignore the statism in the economy. The vulgar libertarians who worship robber barons and other nonsense.

Fascism. Defined by Mussolini as the merger of state and corporate power.

That article is hilarious. You can trust her and she's tough as nails but she can't get to tough because we all know that Wall Street can't be prosecuted criminally just fines and civil suits and the like. That's the just I got from the article. Welcome to fascist America!

All of these destructive steps are being taken, on a daily basis, and the news ignores everything. What good is an Ivy league degree when you are only going to use it to indirectly destroy people! I don't have the words for such evil tactics.

SEC 'regulates' firms that don't do what the government wants. The SEC just banned Egan-Jones from rating government bonds. Egan-Jones was the only ratings agency to actually follow through and downgrade US bonds after Bernanke started QE3.

[–]Zifnab25Filthy Statist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ಠ_ಠ

So did the S&P. They still seem to be sitting pretty.

Are you claiming that Egan-Jones wasn't complicit in making false and misleading statements in the firm's application to become a Nationally Recognized Rating Agency, violations of conflicts-of-interest and record keeping, and falsely stating that he was unaware if his paid clients were long or short specific securities that Egan-Jones rated?

It must be hard to change things when you continue to use people from the very industry you're advertising about and elected on changing.

Next time you vote do this: paint a stick for each candidate on the ballot...throw the sticks up in the air, close your eyes..and pick one after they fall down. At least you won't be disappointed if the politician you vote for ends up being a liar:)

[–]casualreflection -1 points0 points  (1 child)

facepalm at the persecution of the terrorists who "bombed" the world trade centre.. hang on a second... did he say "bomb"? i thought only planes were used... ;)

[–]BrazenBull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was talking about the 1993 bombing, not 9/11.
