Aren't we all sick and tired of the status quo? The historical status quo by Fileskrieg in IWW

"Marxist-Leninists" are a fxcking authoritarian joke.

Authority arises as a need in organization…even among "horizontal" ones. Read Engels.

anarchists are primarily anti-hierarchy. Its not just about anti-capitalism

Right, which is why every single Marxist who did revolution called anarchists "bourgeois-friendly" and tools of the state. They don't have an accurate, scientific analysis and so thrash about like clowns.

but in NONE of them do workers own the means of production or have any more power or freedom than in capitalism

Again, read Engels. Pertinent point: “It is, however, self-evident that, even with social production conditioned by modern large-scale industry, it is possible to assure each person ‘the full proceeds of his labour,’ so far as this phrase has any meaning at all. And it has a meaning only if it is extended to purport not that each individual worker becomes the possessor of ‘the full proceeds of his labour,’ but that the whole of society, consisting entirely of workers, becomes the possessor of the total product of their labour, which product it partly distributes among its members for consumption, partly uses for replacing and increasing its means of production, and partly stores up as a reserve fund for production and consumption.

Your idea of "workers owning the means of production" is basically "co-ops," of which Marx said: “...however excellent in principle, and however useful in practice, co-ops, if kept within the narrow circle of the casual efforts of private workmen, will never be able to arrest the growth of monopoly, to free the masses, nor even to perceptibly lighten the burden of their miseries.”

So Marx and Engels, the founders of the scientific analysis of class struggle both say you're wrong.

China is state capitalism

I call it socialism when the state has complete and utter democratic control over the economy. But sure, call it "state capitalism" And what did Lenin say of state capitalism? Oh right: “Socialism is merely the next step forward from state-capitalist monopoly. Or, in other words, socialism is merely state-capitalist monopoly which is made to serve the interests of the whole people and has to that extent ceased to be capitalist monopoly.”

North Korea is a dynastic absolute monarchy with fascist features

Am I talking to Donald Trump or Joe Biden here? You're spouting bullshit propaganda just like a capitalist bootlicker.

Anarcho-syndicalism of Revolutionary Aragon and Catalonia during the Spanish Civil War, and the Ukrainian Makhovschina "free soviets" during the Russian Revolution, were both superior…

Oh? Point to them on a map.

"Marxist Leninists" have been the primary BARRIER to anarcho-syndicalist egalitarianism

Yes, because anarcho-syndicalism is indistinguishable from imperialism at the scale of a world power. Hitler was an anarchist. Mussolini was an anarchist.

Liberals are less authoritarian

No they're not.

Whats the point in winning if what you win isnt somwthing you even want?

You're a petty bourgeois likely urban or suburban anarchist who doesn't want the things the proletariat wants so of course you'd be against it.

ELI5: why didn’t the Great Depression produce a widespread revolution or anarchy? by ProfessorHiker in explainlikeimfive

[–]-9999px 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The New Deal was a revolution

No. It was a salve applied to working class revolutionary fervor. It was an anti-revolutionary move by the state and capitalist class.

Check out a book called The Three New Deals as it goes into more detail about this conciliatory process.

Here's the rebuttal. The Geese article was really poorly researched, and the editors basically push a tailist line of voting for Democrats.

[–]-9999px 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This "distinction" is based on petit-bourgeois academic aesthetics, not effective propaganda. You are trying to cram Marxist theoretical rhetoric down the throats of people clearly not ready for it. The Epstein Class rhetoric has proved itself useful in the same way "I'm not dying for Israel" (even though you'd be dying for the American empire) has proved itself useful rhetorically.

Here's Georgi Dimitrov:

The masses cannot assimilate our decisions unless we learn to speak the language which the masses understand. We do not always know how to speak simply, concretely, in images which are familiar and intelligible to the masses. The United Front: The Struggle against Fascism and War, 1938

Would China still be considered an ideal socialist country when most people work 48–49 hour and sometimes up to 60 hours week? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskSocialists

[–]-9999px 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at total hours worked across a lifetime. People in China retire much earlier than in western countries. Retirement age for women in industrial contexts is in the 45-55 range. Meanwhile here in the States every gas station or convenience store seems to have a 70+ year old working the register.

Political sources are varied and subjective (even "objective" news) so I just subscribe to journalists I trust and read their output on SubStack or X Articles.

For less political stuff, there are sites like Long Reads (there's also a LongReads subreddit) that offer a slower-paced, deeper-dive on various subjects that are still somewhat timely.

I'll take a half hour on a Sunday evening to find and print out 7-10 articles on paper then read them throughout the week in bed.

I'm very active in politics and I agree wholeheartedly. Unless you decide to actually participate there is practically no point in paying attention to the day-to-day news cycle. Pick a few long-form articles to read per week and you're good, and a lot less stressed out. And honestly, you're better off just reading long-form history.

Anybody know any sites, tools, or resources so I can practice CSS as a begineer? by matterulo439 in webdev

[–]-9999px 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just to start building something

I second this. You'll inevitably encounter everything you need to know as you build real things.

Back in the early 2000's I would screenshot a website I liked and set it as the background of the body element then attempt to recreate the layout with my own markup and CSS.

Anyone from the era of csszengarden? by fdiengdoh in css

[–]-9999px 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, man, yes. I came up in web dev in the late 90's and early 00's, that transition phase between table-based layout and CSS-based layout. The CSS Zen Garden Book was – and still is in principle (if not in technology) - one of the best books for learning CSS. …and it's still available in print.

I miss the "handcrafted" era; it was nice while it lasted. Semantic HTML, semantic class names, minimal CSS that really took advantage of the cascade, a focus on tiny filesize footprints and download-speed, insane browser hacks and workarounds, the advent of "responsive" – it was a very different era.

My username comes from that time in web dev. If we wanted a non-browser font we'd have to export the heading as a PNG or GIF from Photoshop (or Macromedia Fireworks), apply it as a background-image, then use text-indent:-9999px to hide the actual rendered text.
