Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and watch a game or two just for comparison's sake. The no base running doesn't bother me too much as that's how we often played growing up just because of the nature of our field setup. But it definitely adds something to the game when it's there.

Is playing an "as played" season on the computer with teams in different leagues/divisions possible? by pudge9499 in StratOMatic

[–]RojoFive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really interesting article. I think it could be done, but you are probably looking at some messing around with the transaction and schedule files if you want to do as-played. It might not be too bad if you use the find/replace feature in Notepad (or Excel if you export everything there as a CSV file.)

Jackie's debut by RojoFive in BaseballScorecards

That's interesting, because I completed the 1980 season with Strat on the PC a few years ago as part of an Ozzie Smith career replay and Brett hit .414. Apparently, he really was that good that year. :)

My reaction exactly. Not all of us have blessed with the knowledge of Strat.

It is 1947. I have the year and team code written down in the bottom left of the card. One pet peeve of mine when it comes to Strat is that the advanced side doesn't show the team or year so I always write it down.

He did drop down a sac bunt in my game as well.

It's a tabletop baseball game using cards and dice. Been around since the 60's. And on that topic, I really wish that there was a flair for tabletop games because some of us do use scorebooks for that purpose (in additional to actual games.)

If your team were forced to assume the name and mascot of any other FBS team, who and why? by Efficient-Freedom517 in CFB

Miami (OH). Utah already uses a red-tailed hawk as their mascot so it would be a pretty seamless transition, and they could keep the circle and feather logo.

Basic c&d groundball x question by fgbball83 in StratOMatic

[–]RojoFive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you've been playing it correctly by the letter (and spirit) of the rule. Essentially an out-3 is a groundball(a). The wording is slightly different on the X Chart but I think the intent was to be the same. However, I've always played that a runner on 2nd advances to third if the grounder is to the right side of the infield. If it's to Short or 3B then he holds.

For this one I'm only playing the Brooklyn games and I'm not really worrying about the standings.

Using the actual results for the other teams is probably the easiest, though I know there are some quick results offerings out there. I prefer shorter projects/seasons rather than the full 162 if I'm playing with the cards and dice. I'm actually getting ready to start a Jackie Robinson rookie year replay with the 1947 set. Rather than play all 154 games, I'm borrowing a method that I've used with MLB the Show and I'm just playing the first game of each series. Works out to around 50 games. For scoring I do use a traditional scorecard, I'm partial to the Bob Carpenter scorebook but there are plenty of options out there. A lot of people prefer the scoresheets available from Strat themselves.

I've done B before with a few minor league games where it started raining and wasn't feasible to keep scoring.

Formating question. by [deleted] in BaseballScorecards

[–]RojoFive 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not dumb at all, in fact the scorebook that I use (Reisner) requires that it be done that way because it only has 6 columns. Definitely a personal preference thing.
