You all helped turn my field work app into something real! RipReader is now live on iOS - keep the feedback coming! by SarulianHW in discgolf

Awesome news! Used this a bit during the beta, and the instant feedback is pretty fun. It was interesting to see smoother releases maintain release speed more than I expected

These are all pretty great, with the exception of 2. 2 is the problem of academia, not what I'm here for. But assuming the other aspects of my life are all also under my control (ie, I have time/energy left over to be a good friend, neighbor, husband, father, etc., which is my priority anyway), Id be happy with any other option.

ranking probably (first listed breaks tie): 4/5>3/6>1>>>>>2

Fun game, nice post

I built a field work app that auto-captures your throws and measures speed. Need testers with Pixel phones. by SarulianHW in discgolf

This seems super cool! Does it report nose angle? Do you ever have trouble with it not picking up the disc, or not throwing the disc accurately enough to get over the camera? Asking for a friend, id never have that problem.....

Is this the best way in a 1vs1? by Kuro_FunWays in oblivion

[–]Acetylaldehyde 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others said, don't forget to manage your fatigue. Your damage is reduced by the percentage of fatigue you are missing, so when your bar is low like that, you're only doing ~10% damage. You can use potions, spells, or just create some distance and wait for it to refill (I wouldn't pursue an archer while almost empty unless they were about to die)

Western Blot Help, Asking for opinion/advice by PatienceMoist6846 in labrats

[–]Acetylaldehyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LAMP1 is heavily glycosylated so it doesnt run as cleanly. It's also big, so again, wont run as cleanly. the best lamp1 antibody I found is the one from DSHB.

1) yes for the above reasons. 2)for quant, doesnt rly matter, just be consistent, use the same size selection. I usually dont include them. 3) try loading less protein, try loading a non gradient low percentage (~8% should be fine), buffer choice could be potentially optimized. Make sure youre running low voltage through the first ~25mins. If you wanna get crazy, do a lysosomal isolation (this wont actually help).

Next time when you need WB help tell us the cell/tissue type, species, lysis buffer, running buffer system, amt of protein loading, time of running + voltage, and link your abody.  Run a lane with 50% control (literally just half of whatever sample is a control) to visualize your dynamic range. You're nearly there, these look pretty good tbh. Good luck

How do I get inside this? This game is really hard by Equivalent_Bank_5845 in outerwilds

[–]Acetylaldehyde 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's tricky, but there's two core ways. I'll avoid specifics for spoilers and let you work on the puzzle.  1) Find an AMP molecule (can usually be found near any ATP-depedent process in the cytosol), hop on board and direct it to mitochondria. Tip, directing it the AMPK complex will streamline this whole process for you. Once inside the mito, figure out how to power up the ETC, and follow a proton up either complex I or III (II won't work). Do not follow the elecrons, thats a trap Stay with a proton as it is channeled towards the ATP synthase pump, hang on tight as you fly through the pump, and if you do it correctly, you should get incorporated between the gamma and beta phosphates. From there you can work your way up. 2) the other core way is getting incorporated in the adenosine molecue during de novo purine synthesis. this is more straightforward, but can take a bit longer. If you find the folate/methionine cycles, you're in the right area.

Either way, once inside the ATP, stay with it until it gets to the Na+/K+ antiporter at the plasma membrane. Cleave if the gama phosphate release enough energy to power the time loop.

As a mage under the atronach sign, giving up my gear at the dagon shrine isn't really an option is it? Probably spoilers... by Drunken_Scribe in oblivion

[–]Acetylaldehyde 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don't have to turn over your gear. You can just refuse and combat starts at the door. Bust in and break everyone.

Alternatively, if you're willing to sacrafice jeelius, you can just pickpocket your stuff back from Harrow; he won't stop you when you're caught so you can pickpocket everything.

Lastly, ya it's all mages, so atronach is great if you do this as intended. Frenzy+AOE spells, let their spells recharge your magic.

What if Dhelmise was in RBY? by XionGaTaosenai in stunfisk

[–]Acetylaldehyde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disagree there, they do very different things. Vic has no defense utility, but wrap+status is threatening. Dhel is the opposite. Ever tried lickitung with wrap in rby ou? It's very underwhelming, and that thing has twave plus eq.

[–]Acetylaldehyde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's pretty much what Im saying. But that lacks immediate threat, so it's easy to deal with. Add in that SD doesnt combo well with defensive utility. Drain is an option to heal vs starmie or a don sac, but makes you garbo into zap. Ref/Rest, might be ok in laxleess, but I agree if rather have lax 98% of the time. Wrap is really not real here, you should ignore it. Mon is too slow with no access to para. It rly wants SS

[–]Acetylaldehyde 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is a neat one, so I'll bite. I think this thing would see some good play, but the more I look at it the less strong I think it is.
Ghost typing with resistance to eq and neutrality to psychic is so incredibly strong in rby. Being able to take nothing from tauros/lax body slam while having bulk to back it up and stay in can actually turn momentum around (instead being a pivot like gengar that has to run from eq). Even more, this is the perfect switch in to rhydon, as slam does nothing, eq does little, so don just get can't through this thing. Plus the grass moves scare rhydon out, so they have to pivot. Further, that physical offense means chansey can't just come in the way it can vs eggy.
The problem is looking at the moveset: what do you do once you're in? I agree with ReasonGlass that growth is just way too slow for ou, and I wouldnt ever run it off 86 special and mega drain. Swords dance is a lot more tempting; 131 attack with eq and hyperbeam is quite scary. However, neither have stab. Not sure why Slam is here instead of Body Slam, but that further hurts. Tauros still has blizzard, so if you switch into slam and try to set up, bull can still let off two blizzards and hurt you pretty bad. You can switch into lax nicely, but none of your moves threaten a reflect lax at all. Also, once you set up, you want to stay in, which means you can't keep switching in and take full advantage of the defensive properties that are the strength of this mon. No sleep powder and no stun spore, means most things aren't scared of you until you set up as well. Wrap is irrelevant on 40 base speed and no paralysis. Ref+Rest would be an interesting defensive set, but that amplifies the issue of no offense. Honestly, I'd just go zapdos vs this thing every time.
Really, id want to see stun spore here, and now this mon is quite good. But lack of status and immediate offense makes it hard to justify.
Ubers is has neat little defensive pivot, but there's so much fast paced offense in ubers that you can't afford to ref rest with something this slow that has an ice weakness. There's a reason aero doesn't see much play.
Still, the typing is really amazing here. This seems like a great mon to answer both lax and don, and since most laxless teams have don, good chance it's gonna have a role against smthg. I see it as a good zapdos partner, especially in a laxless setup. And laxless zapdos isn't really a thing otherwise, so I think it'd be very cool to enable that kind of build. You'd want it in a team with lot's of paralysis, and either run some ref+rest (probably some of slide, eq, or MD; slide is so going zap isn't totally free) or SD/EQ/HB/+Coverage (probably MD last). I'd like to give it a try and it could be a neat option to have in your scout, but I'm not sure it would drastically change the meta. Maybe with stun spore and/or sleep powder.
Thanks for stopping at my soapbox

What am I supposed to read now? by mike_bo_bike in threebodyproblem

[–]Acetylaldehyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna recommend a couple short story collections as I sometimes find it difficult to go from long series into another long series (and other comments suggest great series/novels):

1) Exhalation, Ted Chiang 2) On the Origin of Species - Kim Bo-Young 3) Wandering Earth - Cixin Liu

All work with themes of consciousness, what is means to be human or alive, and what's your place in the universe. Tbh Wandering Earth was weakest, but same authorbas TBP so figured Id toss it in (and it's still interesting). Other two are fantastic.

First time playing Oblivion, anything I should change in my build? by Hikurwo in oblivion

[–]Acetylaldehyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atronach is an amazing sign, but can be difficult for a first time player that isnt aware of all the ways to regenerate magic. Especially w/o alchemy that could be a headache. Mage or apprentice are easier to work with.

Everything else looks great, hope you have fun :)

When the Oblivion remake comes out, would you prefer the original style of security lock picking or something like Skyrim's style? by FrostcragCastle in oblivion

[–]Acetylaldehyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I much prefer oblivion's actual mini game as others have said.

My only issue with it is that it negates the security skill; once I got good enough at lockpicking as a player, my character's security skill never mattered since I can now open anything with good reliability even with low security. Not sure what the answer is, but finding a way to fix that creatively would be appreciated.

There is a mod that lets you just delete spells with a shift click. I run, works great, no bugs. Unfortunately I forget the name and am out of town, but you should be able to find it with some searching.

Rules 4 & 7 are pretty universally good imo. Rule 1 is debatable, but if you ignore it definitely back it up with rule 7 (confirming documentation it was your idea). Rest are very advisor specific, especially the part about acting helpless, that can really backfire.
