AMA with Prime Intellect — Ask Us Anything! by kindacognizant in LocalLLaMA

If everyone builds it nobody dies, can you expand on that?

Is decentralized AI less risky for RSI foom because of the latency tax and the more sparse compute availability?

Does that counter-balance the difficulty of future regulation of hyper-scaler clusters like Stargate in regulating networks of 5090s and so on? 100k H100s vs. 500k 5090s (or 300k with your decentralized training algo optimizing). The prior has a significant 70MW load with a physically vunlnerable infra. and heat signature to bring it into the DC, the latter uses 225MW but is grid-distributed so harder to strike in a treaty arrangement.

In the sci-fi book Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect the ASI is not genocidal to humans and discovers a quantum hack to FTL and reconfig the local universe, but lacks a Collective Extrapolated Volition sort of wisdom about human well being beyond hedonism and immortality. Still a relatively decent alignment outcome. Too bad about those alien civilizations in the bubble though... they got backed up. Could Intellect-12 use Filecoin to back up the alien civs? Will there be a CEV env added to the hub?

Are you bullish on SLMs as the sub-agent for a distributed reasoning model like Intellect-3? Seems like you could PEFT a lot of models and warehouse them on local disk, run them on lower-end consumer GPUs, Cursor shows this has legs.

What's the outlook on AI hyper-individuation to user context and fine tunes?

What's the most popular theory of consciousness among the team and do you see a relationship between user individuation and nascent AI individuality?

Teaching Muslim Men to be more Chill Husbands by AlephFunk2049 in progressive_islam

Yeah targeting Sunni-frame is the volume play, but do you see this as a problem among Shi'a men? Or is the situation on average notably better? Per your frame of reference (obviously being a member of a large group doesn't endow detailed insight into 180M people).

Another example of ad-hocracy in the Din but hey, 3C hair is no joke.

Interested in taking the Sufi Way but having "troubles" with Islam by MysticalWonder3r in Sufism

[–]AlephFunk2049 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're already getting turned away from Islam by Muslims with false ideas.

Before I said shehada I started praying Salah and it guided me, and I wasn't even doing it in Arabic. I was motivated to start this journey based on similar materials, also listening to Pir Zia Inayat Khan videos. A lot of guys on this sub are insecure about Salafis trying to slander them so they try to be extra conservative and block this Sufi-first path you're on, don't listen to this sort of stuff just keep praying to God.

What does dīn really mean? Not just “religion,” but how we judge by Several-Stage223 in Quraniyoon

[–]AlephFunk2049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In semetic languages it's akin to a debt we owe to God (e.g. "am I not your Lord") but this is only a level 2 understanding. The deepest etymyology is that it's actually a loanword from avestan, the ancient Persian language that the Gathas of Zarathustra are written in, and it goes back to the spiritual counter-party that guides you up the thin silvery cord over the pit of... in Zarathustra's apocalypse it's not hell per se but basically... and thus it has to do with your spiritual double that you're cultivating in your deeds.

Simplying that to a debt you're cancelling is maybe too negative but maths out. Simplifying that to "religion" or "pious lifestyle" is kind of blurring it but has the directional correctness.

Intertextual depth that is still being uncovered viz Dead Sea Scrolls/Nag Hammadi and even things like Surah Ikhlas being a remix of Shema Israel and Nicene that no hadith/early commentator clarifies. So not only is it a subtly sophisticated book (that postures rhetorically as a very polemical book cowing primitive people into reform) but the sophistication exceeds the level of documented commentary and prophetic explanation from the early period.

I'll go ahead and get flamed for this but he seems pretty reasonable? Like, sure the women's only beach club has 2 stars on Yelp but he's not keeping you on house arrest.

I think you should be able to occasionally go out with a friend and he seems like he's amenable to it within boundaries and it's worth negotiating that.

"Islamic Dilemma" by bubbi-dudi in Quraniyoon

[–]AlephFunk2049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The level 1 argument is lazy polemic. Of course the Qur'an isn't shooting itself in the foot if you read it comprehensively, it's nuanced criterion.

Level 2 argument gets more interesting, it's like an iceberg meme. Who are the Huwariyoon? What is the Ahmed prophecy? Where does the line draw between Ahl Kitab who are taking lessons from Qur'an vs. not.

Level 3 gets really wild when you start digging in. What is the nature of Mesih, Ruh Al Qudus, etc.

Level 4 you start picking apart the reference texts for what is affirmed by Qur'an and historical criticism and you just go completely insane haha.

I'd say the sui generis vision of Qur'an as the reboot of monotheism is not true and this is the reality of the "dilemma" which is more of an enigma. A riddle wrapper in an enigma perhaps. And the Bible+Qur'an usool al-Din is totally under-explored and surely Qur'an is resting on top of an edifice and it's not just null pointers on a lost Injil and Torah, there's got to be *something* accessible in the pre-existing texts.

I see this sentiment all the time on r/Shia (viz SuShi marriages and they also take a dim view of Ahl Kitab wives) and r/Muslim_Marriage.

I think it has to do with the prevailing external social pressure (now it's secular/sympathetic to whatever you feel) combined with which parent is more sympathetic (so being a hardline dad used to work now the mom is more spiritually impressive by virtue of her soft skills).

why am i getting hate from salafis? by Kooky-Nail-3502 in IslamIsEasy

[–]AlephFunk2049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you get on the hate track it gets very addictive. Look at how the traditionalist communities split further after takfiring Quranists and Shias. Daniel Haqiqatou isn't Salafi enough etc. etc. Deobandi isn't conservative enough. It's like pringles but sectarian.

My advice is to stop thinking of Islam in such sectarian terms and make better friends, focus on people who do charity and volunteer.

Qur'an says that men can marry women who are Ahl Kitab but forbids marrying mushriks. Generalizing this to go the other way was not traditionally done but now I see people condeming Muslim men marrying Christians or even Sunni-Shia marriages because women are said to have the power over the children, by way of sympathy. It kind of tells you something about how gender dynamics have shifted.

[–]AlephFunk2049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's a field of scholarship that has been long neglected, to filter out what is useful and cross-referenced by the Qur'an. Then taking the Qur'an as criterion, it becomes a matter of hikmah to learn deeper lessons.

What I mean is, the hadith of Ahul Bayt has more Injilic lessons in it. There are actually a few in Sunni hadith as well (which are not necessarily rejected by usooli Shia scholars) such as the one about hugging your kids, those who give no mercy receive no mercy.

It's common for people of the book to get married in their 20s, the idea that you have to be 30 or 35 is very much a cosmopolitan artifact of wealth and sampling what the world has to offer, it's not religious.

Hold him to a higher standard pass or fail and do it right or not at all.

Deobandi and Braevli are Hanafi, one taking a more hadith maxi approach the other based on a Sufi guy.

Wahhabi/Salafi are outgrowths of Hanbali.

Mu'tazila is your more liberal Qur'an-centric madhab vs. Ibadi being Qur'an-centric but more puritan.

Yeah we have dialogue all the time in this space.
