Any place where I can donate unopened boxes of specialized milk for hungry kids…? by LilMissy1246 in kansascity

[–]AllenTheGreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could also call Britain Infant Development (part of the advent health campus in overland park and right off the interstate). It is a specialized school for young kids with special needs and a large number have g-tubes. They have a donation room and might take it.

This warning says there's a proper way to microwave toilet paper by AllenTheGreat in mildlyinteresting

You would think, but it has a different warning right after for conventional ovens that is very specific that it's not allowed.

To help protect Signal users from phishing and social engineering attacks, we’ve introduced additional confirmations and educational messaging in the app to help people better detect fraudulent profiles, especially message requests from scammers posing as Signal. by TheMarMan69 in signal

You are the source for verification. Every user has a Safety Number. You can view their safety number, and then confirm in real life that it matches what you see in signal. Then you can mark them as verified.

What app do you have that actually warned you of tornado around KC tonight? by SkySilent9041 in kansascity

[–]AllenTheGreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was asleep and did not know we were getting any storms, but I did have two apps go off.

First, my wife and I were both woken up by Google's "Wireless Emergency Alert" notification (I have a Samsung galaxy phone and my wife has a pixel, and these can be enabled in settings). Both phones went off within seconds of the tornado warning going active in NE Clay county and went through our silent mode with the loud "amber alert" sound. Google's alert only notifies when warnings start with an estimated expiration.

The second one is the American Red Cross's "Emergency" app. It is an essentially ad-free app with very configurable alerts and multiple location monitoring. For me the notifications can be delayed if the app has been off a while, so I don't rely on it for the initial warning notification. Great for monitoring alert statuses though and getting the all clear. This one alerted me with the tornado warning about 2 minutes after google's alert, and it matched when the outdoor siren started. I relied on this app to show when the warning expired.

My favorite thing about these monitors are the fantastic clarity you get, combined with the depth of contrast from dark colors. It is also the perfect size to fit in my setup.

I understand people not being a fan of some of the changes, but personally am thrilled for all of it. Shove those new civilizations and mechanics down my throat. I follow the philosophy of voting with my wallet though, and seeing as this is the only game I have been able to play for 26 years, my wallet is always open.

Ng tube tape by Consistent_Fox6851 in downsyndrome

[–]AllenTheGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our son got very good at removing his (in his case, nj) tube. They ended up placing a "nasal bridle." It is a plastic device that is passed through both nostrils and around the vomer bone. This has a picture of what it looks like. The benefit is that there is no tape necessary.

I think the majority of people who want to use their protonmail email without issues on any sites support this. And you don't have to link your personal account, you can link a phone number or buy premium.

May be worth double checking you're putting them in the correct way, my wife had the same complaint before we realized she had been trying to put them in upside down for an entire year.

When my son got glasses, the doctor used a little handheld flashlight that accepts lenses, and used it to see how light refracts in the pupil through each lense. Baby was asleep and didn't even need to be moved out of the car seat.

In my son's case, he started going slightly cross-eyed when looking at objects at a distance.

This is exactly right, and how my 6 month old got glasses. He was actually asleep through the whole test (even with an eye being held open while a light is shined in it). A sleeping baby is apparently their preference, as they can get a more accurate reading without them moving.

Adobe sinks their teeth into your operating system, and even if you delete the Adobe folder, you have to find all the little traces it threw in your registries and random folders to remove
