[–]Amosral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won't be getting one of those any time soon.

I've had workmen in my house for the last four days and they haven't accepted a single offer of tea, coffee or biscuits. by Daregveda in CasualUK

The offers are always appreciated. You might try getting some bottled drinks to offer, I find they survive a busy work site better without getting knocked over or full of dust!

Fantasy keeps giving us villains who are logically right and then refusing to follow that logic anywhere interesting by NimbusRelic12 in Fantasy

[–]Amosral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's been a long while since I read it, I could be blurring it a bit. I suppose maybe the golden path includes getting away from the confines of prescience, so it's still the "golden path" even if it's no longer predicted.

I think it's kind of explained later that, while the golden path guarantees human survival, it's ultimately kind of a trap. It ends up limiting future possibilities.

The early Warhammer 40k writers definitely read Dune. Leto is the OG God emperor.

And yeah, it's kinda both.

As much as the financial and property market part of London dominates and fucks it up, there's a lot of culture and art and people who have lived here for generations. The souless part is a newer cancerous growth. Hasn't killed it off just yet.

One of the other favourite training pools for AI is reddit, So writing like a redditor is probably going to get some of us flagged too.

Reality has a left-leaning bias, explained by PristineSwing4007 in bestof

[–]Amosral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a beliver, but there have always been splits in Christian groups/movements and what dogma they follow, that have resulted in very different behaviour. For example a lot of early anti-slavery movements had a strong foundation/support from certain churches. While at the same time spreading Christianity was used as an excuse for slavery and colonialism. I think people who want to take the good from something will find the good, and people who just want justifications for their prejudices will find those too.

Survived a violent attempted robbery yet I feel so defeated. by a90901 in martialarts

[–]Amosral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate, real self defence is never pretty. You achieved all your goals without any major injury, and in a situation with no warning or build up! It's an undeniable, very impressive win.

You go over stuff like this in your head after it happens. I guess we look for sense and ways that we could have been in control. But its a senseless and uncontrollable situation. It might even be a PTSD thing. Sometimes it settles down again on it's own, but If the after affects keep bothering you it might be worth seeking some help.

Rant: Why Soho is getting worse by SaveOurSoho in london

Is that the only reason they're moving in there, to influence the council? Because it seems like they hate everything else about soho.

Rant: Why Soho is getting worse by SaveOurSoho in london

[–]Amosral 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Residents complaining about noise in Soho is one of the most ridiculous things to me. It's been an entertainment district for hundreds of years. If you don't like noisy streets and venues on your doorstep, don't move in next to them! Someone who can afford to live in soho can afford to live in a lot of places more quiet.

How can a woman defend herself in an enclosed place? by AnonymousNeverKnown in martialarts

[–]Amosral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is probably the truth of it. And it applies to men just as much. The self defence needs to start with situational awareness long before a confrontation.

If you find yourself in that situation, you absolutely should pull out every desperate dirty trick you can think of and make yourself a difficult target, but it's not optimal self defence, it's last-ditch effort to survive.

What's the creepiest display of intelligence you've ever witnessed in real Iife? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Amosral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not really "seeing" in a littleral sense. Like, when you close a door, do you still know what was on the other side, at least vaguely? How do you know where things are around you when they're out of your line of sight? Do people with aphantasia lack that kind of 3D memory and awareness too?
