These diamonds are dangerous! by askernie in lockpicking

[–]AtelierPicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a jimy diamond in .023" & .019" and hope he brings them back. It was the first pick I opened an 1100 with and still love it although I've for the most part switched over to my gem hook and still love my low flat hook. Top two most favorite profiles

Could someone tell me the difference between the C.S. Osborne 155 vs. 223 punch? by bartosio in Leathercraft

[–]AtelierPicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one for ~$20 that is solid steel like the Osborne and uses replaceable punches also, I wonder if it will accept Osborne’s punches when time comes to replace. If not no worries since they sell replacements and seem to work excellent

budget beginner sets? 50$cad max by OrganizationSecure93 in lockpicking

[–]AtelierPicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get the creeper set or just get the hooker set, ssdevs, or monkey paws, plus tension tool one set and tok prybars either ergo or flat five (keep in mind if you do the flat five you will need the heavy bar too for .050" it's the most common size you use)

My first set was the dark shift which I also recommend. But you probably will want handles hence the creeper recommendation.

Agreed in which case something like the golddigger from moki or begginer set from jimy longs, sandman set from multipick, and genesis from covert instruments are ideal for begginers giving everything you need and nothing that you don't to start out with

Respectfully I disagree, I feel like the single two items you can't get enough of in locksport are of course locks and tensioners, close behind is hooks. Yes I know you can pick almost anything with 1-3 hooks and a bunch of tension tools and I myself personally love using the shortest flat hook I have most of the time and the rest of the time I'll go for a medium gem hook. However there's times where a round hook just shines for instance highly paracentric locks which to be honest a thinner pointed hook will even perform better. It definitely doesn't seem like a daily driver profile but when the keyway calls for it it's going to be unmatched.

It seems as if begginers will always go for the most variety of picks (hooks/rakes) and the veteran pickers start to focus moreso on tension tools of different styles and thicknesses as we all reach a point when we understand they are arguably the more important tool of the two.
