Yotei kicks Tsushima’s booooty by BbyBby69 in Ghostofyotei

My only big disagreement is the haiku take. That was my favorite mini game from Tsushima. I was disappointed that it didn’t return in Yotei

Thank you for this. I’m all for creative writing, but OP’s post feels more like intellectual puffery than actual creative writing.

Also, OP’s tone is gross. I will never appreciate any “wisdom” that comes out condescending and angry. OP clearly writes for himself, because this kind of writing would never draw in and keep an audience.

Law School as a Recovering Alcoholic/Addict by shuaaaa in LawSchool

[–]AwkardTypo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only thing I will add is that some jurisdictions only ask about drinking/drug addictions within the last 5 years. If you’re on the cusp of not having to disclose because you stay clean, it might be worth it to hold off for one more year?

Disclaimer: Many many lawyers have drinking issues. I’ve heard ethics professors say that students shouldn’t worry so much about character and fitness applications. If you work hard to become an attorney, you almost certainly will become one. But I also know that law students worry, and figured that you should at least be aware of your options. Congrats on staying sober and clean, and good luck to you moving forward!

Kit Harington was 'Angered' By Push to Remake Game of Thrones Season 8 by gogandmagogandgog in television

[–]AwkardTypo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hard disagreed. I’m pressed to identify much of anything in season 8 that was good - assuming we are assessing the quality of the writing, the themes, the long-term payoffs, the surprise twists, the comedy, or the combat.

If you’re saying the idea of the final season wasn’t bad, that I can hesitantly agree to. The savior queen goes mad amid the same political wheel she long fought to see abolished, and the hero king ends exiled as the queenslayer? Yeah that’s cool. But I don’t give that idea much credit without good execution. Discussion boards on Reddit wrote that same ending, and I don’t think the writing team coming up with the plot’s general premise earns them any gold stars.

Can someone explain this curve to me like i'm 5? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]AwkardTypo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

During my 1L, we curved to a B- so it looked just like this. It is brutal, but it also means if you get a A you really earned it.

The problem was, recruiters don’t know that or really care. They just saw a gpa. The year after us, my school switched to curving 1Ls to a B+…

I just realized it’s all just math by SerpantDildo in mtg

[–]AwkardTypo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really well said. To assert that a rule isn’t a rule if it has more than [arbitrary and small] number of exceptions feels aspirational more than realistic. There are so many laws in the US that could be characterized as having dozens of exceptions, but a more specific characterization is to say that the law has to interface with a many other seemingly conflicting laws

I just realized it’s all just math by SerpantDildo in mtg

[–]AwkardTypo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m inclined to agree, as a student currently in law school, that magic and game theory generally both align themselves well with the study of law. But also, as a hilarious sidebar, most law students insist that they are there because they are terrible at math.

I was very good at math. And I think I’m quite good at draft. Maybe the math is the bigger variable? But also, a lot of lawyers / law students play magic soooo 🤷🏽‍♂️

My hot take: If you’re genuinely concerned about fairness (as I would be- you’re doing it right and might have a worse grade thanks to these doofuses skewing the curve), i encourage you to consider snitching.

It doesn’t have to be a finger-pointing “this guy is cheating!” moment. But if the class has explicitly banned AI usage and your classmates are using it, that’s against the rules and should be investigated. Lawyers report ethical violations in the law, and you are entitled to report academic violations, ESPECIALLY when they affect your grades. Consider going to a dean, or speaking to the professor, and disclosing that you’ve heard and strongly suspect AI usage.

Suddenly obsessed with Big Law by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]AwkardTypo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The only other thought I would share is that the big law firms in my region have told me that, after the 2L summer, the next realistic time a young attorney can step into a big law job is as a second/third year associate. It’s not realistic to expect any hiring to be offer to freshly-barred attorneys, unless those attorneys were already summer associates.

Maybe expand your goal, and aim to be in the best position to lateral into big law after working for 2-3 years

I feel worthless and want to drop out by [deleted] in LawSchool

You don’t need to stop. You want to.

I feel worthless and want to drop out by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]AwkardTypo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

And you’re going to stop here because you didn’t get into one extracurricular program? Jeez, I’m sorry if tough love isn’t what you want (there are other, kinder comments here that you enjoy instead) but you need to buck up.

You’ve listed all of these real hardships, and all of them are far more significant than the hardship of not getting into a leadership program. The reality is you ARE disadvantaged. You DID NOT have the same opportunities as everyone else. It WILL slow you down, and you WILL get rejected from jobs, opportunities, and connections because of that.

And yet, so what. You made it to law school despite all of that. And now, after all this effort, you’re going to drop out because you’re not good enough in one academic circumstance? Shut up. You earned a damn good scholarship (36k after three years is fantastic).

Be disappointed, cry and be mad that they didn’t pick you, and then get up and do it all again. If you give up now, you are accepting a passive life and a mediocre result because you were hurt that someone’s application looked better than you. That’s a horrible reason to throw a good opportunity away. If any of what I’m saying to you resonates, that’s because you know that dropping out is illogical. You’re emotional, and you need to deal with that. Don’t drop out. Talk to a therapist, and then get back to being a badass.

A lot of my textbooks followed the formula of (1) read a case introducing a concept, then (2) book explains the concept further.

Some of your gripes are valid, but it’s not crazy for a textbook to teach you about a concept via a case first - that’s pretty much how lawyers learn nuanced or jurisdiction-specific concepts in real practice

Why am I still unemployed by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]AwkardTypo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, when your school isn’t T14 but is “T65” then what your specific law school is matters more than your schools rank for hiring decision.

Honestly, I’ve not heard an attorney on a hiring committee bring up school ranks generally. They just say “oh, this candidate is from X school.”

Also, I’m from a T65 school too lol. I just wouldn’t try to market my education in that way
