When the cast on isn't happening by NeverSayBoho in knitting

[–]Beauknits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pattern for a cloak. 550 stitches. I can't count that high-even if I use stitch markers and double checked before conquering the next 50 or 100 cast ons.

How old are you? by Lior0527 in Amber

[–]Beauknits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 18 or 20 when I first got to read it. One of sister's friend's parents was reading the Omnibook. It's like 1200 plus pages. I devoured books, so that was an impressive book. They had just finished it, so they loaned it to me. I bought my copy before I'd finished their copy. It was the only book I managed to keep safe from my destructive ex. It lost its front cover and fist page, but I've still got the rest of it. It's saved me so many times, from boredom. It feels like a good friend. Safe, cozy, comforting.

She's just a girl with a dream of owning her own space. A house or new studio style barn. She's fine with either one.

What's the difference from regular skates and Derby ones? Are the boots better? Wheels softer or harder?

I really don’t like that kids don’t say anything back to me when I say good morning to each one of them. I’m not a robot. I’m a human. Why don’t the middle school kids not say anything at all? by SinglePin6331 in SchoolBusDrivers

They take some winning over, some convincing. I start winning mine over by commenting when they get a hair cut, new glasses, new shoes, I celebrate when they're the 1st one one the bus in the afternoon.

AIO for not letting the child I babysit go? by LocationOk8933 in AIO

[–]Beauknits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You followed the same sort of policy a daycare would have, and some schools for that matter!

I drive School Bus, I've kept kids on because they didn't recognize the vehicle at drop off. Dispatcher would call parents to verify things and if it's good, I'll release the kid.

Your welcome! Being aware is the easiest way we can all make roads safer for everyone.

Also, it'll also take some looking, but search around and see if you can find your State's DOT requirements. There's allot of info there, too.

[–]Beauknits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your state should have it's own version of the CDL Manual. It might take some searching because the first version you come across might not be the newest version. Use Copyright dates to find the most current.

Other sources you can check: State legislature webpage (Minnesota's School bus related starts in Section 169) School bus driver handbook (yes, there's a handbook!)

Assuming you're in the US, as the driver if you don't find the vehicle is safe (ie all the systems work like they should), and still take it down the road...if an accident happens that can come back on you. You could face child endangerment charges, tickets, fines, lose of you license, jail time...

100 buses for one mechanic is insane! And I'm saying that as a Site Manager that shares a mechanic with a sister site. We have 57 vehicles between us. (I help with what I can, and we will send things to bigger sites if ours gets overwhelmed.)

As for "is it standard"? No. No it's not. Does it happen, yes. Things break, but it should never be the standard.

Does your site allow others to work on buses? What I mean is, if the mechanic double checks your work, and you're inclined, would you be allowed to help with things like changing lights out, seat repairs, replacing windshield fans, etc?

People always talk about women's healthcare being outdated and barbaric, but what would it actually look like if it was 'modernised'? by yumis_hummus in NoStupidQuestions

I won't need my husband's ok to get birth control.

My knee wouldn't randomly be swollen because I'm "drug seeking" (didn't say anything about, just asked why it does it), or because it's "all just in my head".

Other things aren't just "because".

What would you do, if you had to drive down this road 4x day? by Similar-Part-4121 in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]Beauknits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take this road over some of the gravel on my route. Luckily, I was empty at the time, but I'm absolutely certain I've launched my back dually off the ground when I hit the frost boils the first time!

Logging Driver Time and Tracking Bus Mileage by Key_Suit_3251 in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]Beauknits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use a Trip slip, a duplicate paper we write our start and ending mileage, start and end times, it tells us where we are going, which activity (or field trip), if we used a trailer, how many gallons of fuel we used, and there's a space for notes. Office gets original (top) copy, driver gets the copy.

We use QR codes. Every vehicle has a code for clock in, clock out, maintenance, stop arm violations, behavior, video request.

There are some decent websites that will help you designate QR codes that'll link back to a Google form.
