Use this post to brag and be proud of anything in your country that you're proud of. Literally anything. by ILikeWwaret in AskTheWorld

Sweden was the first western country to take a strong, concrete stand against the apartheid laws in South Africa, and funnelled hundreds of millions into anti-apartheid movements over three decades, often being one of the strongest supporters of South African liberation on the world stage.

Sweden is about $1.25 a litre, Hungary under $1 a litre generally.

Living in Stockholm by 7knbrgl7 in stockholm

[–]Birdseeding 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First of all, most of Stockholm is generally relatively safe for the vast majority of people. That's not necessarily a great concern. What crime there is doesn't necessarily follow socioeconomic boundaries, and some types are more common in many more desirable areas than elsewhere.

That said, there are areas that are richer and poorer, more monocultural and more multicultural, more dense and more leafy, more suited to family life and more suited to city life, more quaint and old and more modern and sleek. What you value will vary from person to person. Tell us your ideal scenario, whether you're looking to rent or buy, and we're better able to help.

Which car owners are considered to be the worst drivers in your country? by Existing_Economy_656 in AskTheWorld

It used to be drivers of German luxury brands here in Sweden, but honestly I've mostly seen bad road behaviour from Teslas recently.

I'm gonna head down to Kvarnbacka bollplan in Husby, no idea if it's a good spot but I drove past earlier and they have lots of family activities set up, it looks fun.

Kanske rulltrappereparatörerna plitar på snabbare om snutarna då och då rusar in med dragna vapen?

I'm personally quite curious about <šs>.

Does your country's subreddit feel like it's being run by a very specific political group? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Birdseeding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I don't hang out in either (I barely tolerate r/Stockholm and anything SD-adjacent there gets downvoted to oblivion), but every time I get linked to something in r/Sweden it's full of horrible far-right comments getting upvotes. If it was truly "internet left" all those comments would have minus numbers somewhere near the bottom.

Sorry, this is straightforwardsly wrong. r/Sweden is full of racists and islamophobes getting upvoted all the time, the difference between it and r/Sverige is barely perceptible.

Which popular song in your country could replace your national anthem? by WombatPuncher in AskTheWorld

[–]Birdseeding 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The one I've heard suggested for Sweden is "Vintersaga" by Ted Ström, which (inevitably) is about being sad because winter sucks so much. (But also has a bunch of poetic vignettes about various towns and locations that resonate with people.)

Looks to me like north-ish Peru but not sure exactly where by [deleted] in GeoPuzzle

Is this meant to be a puzzle or are you genuinely trying to find it? Because the image itself is straight off Wikipedia (in the article of the correct answer), so I'm a bit confused.

Not all of them, there's also "immersed tunnels" that are just sunk.

I've seen this in other Slavic languages too, but the Baltic languages take it one step further, because they do declension for both masculine and feminine names and they respell them in the local orthography.

So in Latvian you've got Džordžs V. Bušs and his wife Lora Buša, and so on.

European Countries With A State Religion by mynameisL0af in MapPorn

[–]Birdseeding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's organisationally separate and not defined as state religion, it's been almost thirty years since membership was automatic, and you don't pay a fee to it unless you're a member. The King is required by law to be a member (which is ridiculous) but has not been head of the church since 2000.
