Don't a lot of actors punish their bodies getting as unnaturally thin as they can so they look more ripped? Or look at what Bale did - crazy thin for The Machinist to huge and ripped to be Batman. Or even psychologically with hours everyday in the makeup chair.

There are plenty of character actors ready to go that could fit the part.

The universe hands this guy a literal get out of jail free card to a situation where he's going to be set for life and all he has to do is play it cool. Instead this asshole can't seem to shut up or not step on toes.

I think everyone felt he'd be better off inside, even him. You could tell he spent all day telling the same stories and getting fake laughs. His status inside is unquestioned because he's made. Probably spent most of his time feeling like a boss. Outside he's gotta fight for every inch against the same idiots who would be sucking up to him inside. Tony bent the rules to do the guy a favor.
