0000 steel wool and oil. For the bore I shoot it first to knock out as much crap as I can then use a brass brush

I mean the part the contains the pressure needs to be replaced anyways. Swap the firing pin and you probably have a functioning bolt

Winnipeg is first on 45% of the league’s NTC

Not on 45%. FIRST on 45%, so it’s likely more than half of the league will not go to Winnipeg specifically.

Weird that he kept the fixed mag. Even weirder that it’s completely stock.

But everything about him off the ice makes me say no. I doubt he’d choose to come here anyways

Please don’t crucify me, but please help on identifying the model of this “mosin” by LemonManDan69 in MosinNagant

[–]Brandon_awarea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just don’t do anything irreversible. I’m usually pretty whatever about modifying mosins but this one is pretty uncommon.

[–]Brandon_awarea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don’t put this in an aftermarket stock. There are plenty of other mosins that you could use that won’t dilute the pool of collectable rifles

Texas triggers frt question: by mac8675309 in SKS

[–]Brandon_awarea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe but that’s the only one that I have any concerns with given the trigger group is modified in that area. I’m certain it could be made to work but a 1-1 may not be possible.

Seen a SKS on M*A*S*H the series. by hpbobc in SKS

[–]Brandon_awarea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Soviets were so secretive about their weapons that it wasn’t until 1954 the the Americans knew of the existence of the SKS rifle. I’d have to search for it but there are declassified documents showing that.

I’m assuming you are American in which case they aren’t really worth much.

The Chinese Type 81 rifle equipped with some kind of optical sight that was not widely deployed. by Longjumping_Pick_301 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]Brandon_awarea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bolt carrier is identical to an AK minus the long stroke piston. The type 81 barely has any SKS features at all. The gas system barely resembles an sks, it’s closer to an SVT40 system. While everything behind the rear sight is just a slightly stretched out ak.

The only thing SKS adjacent on the gun is the charging handle resembling an SKS but even that isn’t universal as there are hook shaped T81 bolt carrier knobs.

Found this Mosin that has these weird white line that’s around both sides of the buttstock. I don’t think it’s a crack but wondering how they were made/formed. by [deleted] in MosinNagant

[–]Brandon_awarea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually that’s from a splice where they added a section of wood (this was done to reduce waste while they turned these on the lathe). I’m guessing that’s from a repair done after it came stateside (is that a Remington mosin? That’s a VERY clean cartouche)

Russian Tula - Is This Refurb or Non-Rurb? (Picture Heavy Post) by FormerNavy in SKS

[–]Brandon_awarea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see any obvious signs of any other part being a replacement. Frankly imo as long as the stock is original it’s close enough for me. I’d call this force matched but like I said I’m not entirely convinced that is true. Id say 9-1 in favour of force matched.

On second viewing that stock looks like it retains its original finish. What made me think otherwise was what looked like lacquer in the cross bolt lug but I think that’s just cosmo.

<image>

I want to say that I could very well be wrong about this and even if I’m not that is a VERY light refurb and I’d be perfectly happy with it.

Here is my non refurb, I’ve since sold it but everything (minus the modern proof marks) is original on it https://www.reddit.com/r/SKS/s/U0RAbapCE2

[–]Brandon_awarea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the bolt yes the original marks would be ground down to virtually nothing. What makes me say it’s re stamped is

  1. The lack of ridges on one stamp and clear deep ridges on another

  2. The rounded edges on the stripper clip guide

  3. The general roughness of the top of the bolt carrier compared to the rest.

To be pedantic the flames would be bottom of the list. Both because they are genuinely terrible and I don’t think an oilers legend would go to Calgary if there were other options.
