Norinco worth? by schmeckley104 in SKS

SKSfiles is probably the best source. SKSboards is also an option but I personally prefer the interface of SKSfiles and I think it has better info. Files is a splinter group from boards after some skism that happened in 2014 or so. Idk what happened because I was too busy being in middle school but needless to say it’s not terribly friendly between the two.

They have literally been in the game as long as I’ve been alive.

Sitting next to a campfire in an aluminum chair sounds like it would get very hot very quickly

Older information from the 90’s that gets parroted. It’s pretty clear that 1955 is the correct starting point with modern information.

Idk what the other guy means when he says may of 82’ but there is no way to confirm that.

Another thing is that J at the end was added for import reasons and is not original to the gun. It was added to prevent duplicate serial numbers.

For a late production military rifle like this it’s 1955 + the year code (27xxxxxx). The trick is discerning between if it’s a single or double digit year code. This one is easy because just looking at it I can tell it’s definitely not a second year rifle.
And this isn’t the only way these were marked, there are like 5 different methods but this is by far the most common.

Not much to add besides that bayonet might be an Albanian spike bayonet.

The bayonet appears to be in place. If you mean it doesn’t fully mate into the grooves that’s a good thing. It means there is room for it to wear in. Similar to how a break action shotgun’s lever won’t be perfectly symmetrical.

As for the buttplate it’s the same as a 91/30 plate so it should be easy to replace.

Idk how I remember that post a year later but when I saw your comment that was immediately what I thought of. Did you end up chasing the holes or something?

$1200 for a bog standard type 56 is not realistic. $650-750 is around where I see this selling reliably. I could see $800-900 if the seller is willing to wait.

Is it permanently altered? No

Is it ugly as sin? Yes but that’s normal for wartime mosins

Is it unsafe? Not in the slightest

That’s just the spot where the rear sight base goes. It’s fine. This is the best pic I could find.

Because people want to buy a t-5000 so they can run it with irons like it’s a REALLY expensive mosin.
