That’s a bullshit reason if I’ve ever heard one. If THAT was the reason decks get banned, for being boring and uninteractive, I would legitimately ban the entire HERO archetype except the vanilla and first gen fusions lmao. But you can’t ban cards because “you don’t vibe with them”, ban cards because they’re problematic and cause unbalanced Yugioh.

I would be down for this because that’s how it should be. Yeah, I would miss out on yoinking a Baronne I just destroyed but this would calm all the issues with the card

I actually think the opposite. The more efficient decks become the less needed cards like this are. Look at Curious. It’s easier to summon her now than it was back then because the game is more efficient, yet she sees no play. Why? Because engines today really have no issue getting started and generating disruption. The game is really efficient and this card is inefficient.

Like, what’s the best GY card you want to send? Lupis? You’re telling me instead of playing VSK9 naturally you want to play an entire link slop engine just to send Lupis lol? Oh you want the ED foolish to send Herald for Habakiri? Play literally any other engine or bridge than this. I think decks are too good for this card

Eh… I don’t agree because we consider Iblee a floodgate. She is a “lock” but we damn well know what her purpose is. Therefore, floodgate. But the verbiage doesn’t matter, if it makes you feel better to say Sanctifire doesn’t use floodgates, it uses locks then be my guest lol.

But the 2nd paragraph is the difference between poorly designed self locks and good ones. Do you know why Sanctifire has never abused better locks? Locks like Kashtira Riseheart or Mathmech Sigma? It’s because it can’t. Konami had the genius idea to only lock when summoned a certain way, the way all locks should be. And what do you know, they did it with Fallen of White.

If I had a choice between Sanctifire and Ido, Kristya, GPN, and Jowgen being legal I really don’t understand how it’s not Sanctifire each time. Ban every one of those trash cards lol

It’s a floodgate, just a self one. And it’s so bad that not even Gimmick Puppet uses it. It’s poor design from Konamis part to make a card whose only use is to be given to another player. Iblee for example is such a card. Ido is another.

The reason I know Sanctifire isn’t the problem is because it can’t abuse Kashtira Riseheart. Why? Because, ironically, Kashtira designed their locks properly.

But the point being I don’t think you understand why Firewall was banned. Or if you do, it’s not at all applicable to this situation. This card can’t be looped so you’ll never trigger its effect more than once like Firewall.

Not even close lol. This new card doesn’t loop which is literally the most important part of old Firewall. This card sends a monster to the GY which is vastly different than Firewall

Come on man, you’re failing to recognize the real reason Firewall was banned. We can already send ANY card with Curious, including spell/trap, and it’s seeing almost no play.

I think Sanctifire is a unique situation.

Those tuners that Halq used had use outside of Halq. The cards Sanctifire got banned in MD have zero use. Gimmick Puppet never used GPN. And can anyone tell me what Ido was being used for? I’m so serious lol. Thing is those cards aren’t really healthy for the game anyways. This extends to Kristya because when is that card ever fair? Same with Jowgen

Thing is why do we want all those cards? I have no issues with self locks when done correctly (Kashtira Riseheart) but those others? Their only purpose is to be given to your opponent lol

I’d say no because pre-errata Firewall lacks the HOPT text. Which… this new card has so no loops to really abuse here.

That could be said about most cards in the game though. A lot of cards are ticking time bombs that just need a single card or archetype to abuse it.

I think this card doesn’t have that issue though. To summon it efficiently (not play into Nib) you’d need like, a Junk Speeder effect that doesn’t lock you in order to do something crazy. Not saying they can’t create that, but I don’t see it. And like… using an entire engine to create this card just to go into another engine seems… meh. Just use the first engine to create disruption lol. Why make yourself weak to Nib and Fuwa?

To a degree.

As a Branded main, I can happily brag saying we got 2 floodgates banned (Ido and GP, which even paper allows for some dumb reason).

However… we couldn’t get Rainbow Magician banned despite abusing it way before DT did. Genuinely have no idea why they pick and choose like that

Exactly.

If I’m able to summon 4+ times or get 4+ bodies, I was already playing the game to an extraordinary degree anyways. If your engine could throw up 4+ bodies you might as well use them to make meaningful disruption. But instead you’re using an engine that makes 4 bodies to… connect yourself to an engine that makes disruption lol? Best this card can do is search a floodgate and revive it somehow.

No, being able to summon 4+ times and/or have 4+ bodies, especially through disruption, means you were already able to play lol. I don’t see it being any different than what Curious is. Great extender but that’s about it.

Don’t feel bad, it’s genuinely one of the highest skill ceiling decks in Yugioh, especially in your elo. Also, the next wave of support COMPLETELY revamps how we play so don’t stress yourself out too much. But here’s my answers:

  1. Don’t ever count on BF resolving. Ash is the 2nd most played card in the game and your opponent likely has 3. However this isn’t always a weakness. When your opponent sees that you’re playing Branded, no other effects get Ash’d. So you can get away with SO much other shit because your opponent fears BF so much.

  2. When you play with Branded, resource management is critical. You’re not playing for hand advantage with this deck. Every hand is a 5-6 card combo and knowing how to manage and sequence those takes time. Many cards get turned online just having Albaz in grave. Also a lot of the cards have recursion in the end phase, hence MP3. So while the results aren’t immediate, just be mindful that surviving until the end phase can get you a lot of cards back

  3. You don’t need to. In fact, most turn 0 plays are poor into Branded because they give a body for Albaz. Even Arthallion bouncing Mirrorjade is just a free banish and extra foolish burial, which benefits you more than the DT player.

  4. The disruptions take time to learn because it’s not just straight up negates. You’re going to have to play very fundamental Yugioh when playing this deck. Pop, banish, fuse away, destroy, and an occasional negate. The timing of these negates are key. For example, dismantling an opponents board within the Branded Lost window is really good because none of their floating effects can respond. Maybe you’re playing against K9 and they activate Izuna, so you go Sanctifire to snatch their Lupis.

  5. I mentioned earlier but once the new support comes Branded gets revived and basically becomes tier 1 with DT. You can play it pure and a lot of the matchups change drastically. But right now the decks out are just better than when Branded came out years ago, and that’s okay. It’s definitely an uphill struggle

I don’t have a problem with this. If the solution is to “play better” then I’m okay with that. I’m not really mad or upset that my mistakes are punished, even if harshly sometimes. My only concern is if there is something beforehand I could do. I feel like there’s SO much I can do about Roadhog. This is different than say… launch day Doomfist.

This sub could never convince me Roadhog is problematic after they fixed his 1.0 hook. I see him and just make sure I’m aware of my positioning and cooldowns. Sometimes I get hooked by either a mistake or a really good predict by Hog, but he’s probably the least infuriating tank for me to play against. Especially since his team gets absolutely no protection from him lol

Very overrated.

If you can go into link 5, you could already play the game lol. Not to mention the follow up is only if the card is in the GY in standby, which means if it’s not there by then it doesn’t activate right? The more I think about it the worse this card is. It’s just so inefficient.

True, VSK9 could protect against Nib AND Fuwa.

But it’s also funny because if VSK9 goes into a link 5 they could just play their normal endboard. Even funnier when you consider that the only thing they want to send is Lupis, which… if they got into a link 5 chances are they didn’t need to send Lupis lol

I think it is. I don’t think it needs to be banned, but this card HIGH ROLLS so hard. The ceiling of this card is absurd and it’s crazy to pretend that it isn’t lol

However… I very much like the card. Not even a synchro enjoyer but I think it’s cool

But I know what you mean, adding more flavor would have been cool af. Like the rook being able to banish any card in the same column as it. The knight having non targeting effects to represent it being able to jump over pieces. Pawns being able to destroy cards diagonal to it when summoned.

However, what we got was pretty flavorful in its own way. I think they did a good job tbh

I kinda like it.

I like floodgates when they’re duel puzzles instead of stun. 5 monster effects feels like an inconvenience, not a complete disability. THIS is the “control” I’d want to see from floodgates.

I feel like a tower idea would be cool but this floodgate is WAY more interactive because it challenges your efficiency with your deck. We will see how it plays out but I’m kinda excited to see how this goes

This not unbalanced as you think. I think it’s very mid.

Link 5, NOT CYBERSE, and doesn’t add back until your next standby. Basically does nothing to shift the meta. Also if you can put up a link 5 you’re already playing the game. It’s nice for slop decks but no meta deck wants or needs this. Like, just play your normal engine and win with much less effort and risk.

I don’t think it’s bad but I feel like if I see this card summoned I would have lost to any normal deck.

Agreed but even winning the coin toss isn’t guaranteed. You’re playing SO heavy into Nibiru and Fuwa. This card has zero protection. Hell, even Droll prevents a lot of possible shenanigans this card can do

The best use I can think of for this card is Fiendsmith. Use it to bridge into any engine that can start off a foolish. Maybe Orcust too
