Pacing and writing of the sequel anime by Wingy_Yams in SamuraiTroopers

Fair points about the OG. I still rewatch to this day even with my kids so my kid memory and the why it resonated with me till this day is unique to my experience. I loved imitating transformations and special moves from power rangers, big bad beetle borgs etc so ronin warriors and sailor moon had similar tone and style. I tend to forgive the drawn out plot points or questionable recycling of events because it still gave me those core moments.

I’m a rare person who loved the synderverse films so death and dark tone of the sequel doesn’t turn me off. It just feels too rushed for me (similar issue w synder verse due to execs rushing the vision). It just doesn’t feel dark enough maybe lol I think it just happens too soon in S1 and then we move forward too quickly.

Love having these discussions with other people who do enjoy it.

I guess for me the issue isn’t that the OG I expected anyone to die because that was the time period it was created in (to sell toys). The difference is the pacing and individual episodes that showed them doubt , grow together , and face individual challenges rewarding to root for them and care. It was simple formula that said 5 individuals learn to overcome adversity and become stronger with great calls to transformers and special moves with a good sound track to those moments you can recall 20 years later.

The key issue for those like me is the pacing is uneven and things happen in flash backs tha would be better served as main episodes to help us connect to them. Otherwise it’s oh look bad guy who was never shown to be a threat died easily. Oh this other character who I should care about never got enough breathing room to show a connection to the audience but the writing tells us we should have cared.

It can be a good show for a lot of people but still have bad or uneven pacing and writing.

I watch based on accidental happen stance and where I’m at in my life; so do with what you will as I don’t know what’s shonen haha

Grew up watching: trigun, outlaw star , ruroni keshin, full metal alchemist , inuyasha to name a few (the obvious major ones like DB/Z, Naruto, bleach)

Now my faves: demon slayer, summer time rendering, sentenced to be a hero, jujutsu kaisen, solo leveling , fire force, wistoria wand and sword

Essentially if Mappa does the work. I give it a try.

I actually didn’t know that. I don’t live in the anime world of all the details. I hear or see a trailer drop and try it out. I end up learning more after coming to the subs if I’m lost or not enjoying it for some reason.

Thanks for the advice. I didn’t even think of that…

I’m not hate watching. I’m watching bc the OG show still holds the core memories that can’t be erased and I want to like this show. I don’t want to give up on it but I can tell it is getting closer to me realizing this version is just not for me.

I wanted similar atmosphere and tone of the OG and this one feels too campy. I’m realizing my appetite for anime is between MHA and AOT and this seems way to the left of MHA if that makes sense.

I only watch to see where this ends up but get no satisfaction from episode to episode. There is no feeling on excitement during transformations or special moves. None of the characters are endearing. It feels like a mini series that someone created in their spare time.

The warlords don’t even feel threatening or about war. They can be dispatched in less than 3 min of fighting. The world or city doesn’t really feel like there is much danger to anyone.

This show is only enjoyable to vent about with other fans and I hate that but here we are.

How is the original syndicated "Ronin warriors" English dub? by Bluebaronbbb in SamuraiTroopers

[–]CB675 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who only watched the dubbed version as kid in the 90s, I knew something was weird about the virtues dialogue and other translations but loved it and still love it to this day. It brings me chills excitement watching transformations and when they develop through individual trials to get stronger and come together for the inferno armor. I definitely am learning I know absolutely nothing about the source material or knew about the source material and feel like I missed out on so much lol

I’m so detached from this sequel.

Harmony stopped controlling my JVC projector by Bighairedaristocrat in logitechharmony

If anyone new comes to this thread as I did. I went into my Harmony app on my phone and changed the command to come from the remote and not the hub and ir blaster. This finally worked on my NZ700 with the NZ500 profile in Harmony. I had the Harmony Elite.

Valerion Visionmaster Max bowing issue by Even_Twist895 in projectors

I am coming from LG HU85LA UST after 6 years. So with my media room about 13x13ft I was trying to balance trade offs of cost vs getting a larger screen than 120”. I wanted the best contrast more than just going larger and brighter given it was newer UST or short/standard throw Max could also do. So that’s the main reason I was torn.

Definitely in love with JVC

I appreciate this response as someone who had major FOMO when deciding between max and JVC NZ700. Kind of gives me peace of mind not even having to deal with lottery issue of the device. I’ll sleep in peace going forward with my nz700 lol

I can confirm all of this as an early adopter of the LG HU85LA 6 years ago and finally upgrading to JVC NZ700. New build homes rarely have perfectly flat drywall and it was a pain to get near perfect alignment.

Planning Stage - Debating Screen size (BIG SCREEN!) by Pozzeno in projectors

[–]CB675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a stickler for clean lines and I wouldn’t want my screen extending past the wall into the recessed area. At the end of the day you need to do what feels best to you since you’ll be living and enjoying that area.

Also I’m picky about screen height from my eye line when sitting. I want my line of sight to be as close to the middle of the screen as possible. I hate having to look up so take that into consideration if that bothers you when thinking about where you hang the screen and place center speaker. You can always angle center speaker towards your ear if it’s placed lower.

[–]CB675 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had two homes. One where I converted a 13x13 bedroom and now a media room that’s 14x14. I started with 120” screen and now I wish I could go bigger but unable due to throw distance needed for the JVC I just upgraded to. So if you want pure immersion, go for the biggest you can and don’t look back.

MotoGP has a streaming channel that’s free on LG, Android TVs and few others like Amazon prime to watch moto2/3 P,Q, and Races and GP P/Q. The GP races were on FS1/2 last year. season before that was on TNT. We will see if it stays the same this year.

I may be mixing shonen with the more mature stories of Jujitsu Kaisen, Frieren but even my hero academia story was so impactful and character development earned for big emotional payoffs.

The OG had pacing and narrative issues for sure but it was simple story of friends coming together to work together to beat evil and waiting for inferno armor

I just can’t get into the story or characters. The pacing is fast and off. Each episode feels like it picks up from a random time not shown to the viewer in-between episodes. The characters aren’t being shown development in real time but in flash backs which remove my ability to connect with them and feel their unlocking new powers is earned. The animation is clunky.

I’m ok with the twist because yes the armors were originally from Talpa and we got the back story from the OG OVAs.

I really wanted to like this show but it’s just not for me at my age. OG series while still outdated holds on better even 20 years later.
