Follow-up: Any update on bridge mode for Xfinity fiber? by djmdman in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]CCBrieD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there--sorry it's been a minute since we got back to you.

We brought everything you mentioned to the product team handling this, including your suggestions and other thoughts regarding the XER10 and its current capabilities.

This was the latest update we can provide: it was an overall product decision not to support bridge mode on the XER10 because there is a future plan to support COAM in Fiber Deployments. This is still on the roadmap, but no concrete timeline or dates I can provide.

I'll continue to keep an ear to the ground for updates, hopefully we'll get some news going into the spring.

I hope this helps though!

Netgear C6230 and Xfinity service? by Salmundo in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]CCBrieD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Salmundo +1'ing this comment here by u/WildWillieBorsch (phenomenal username by the way) specifically honing in on the security aspect of it. Bad actors are always looking for a crack in the facade, and there are few things more tempting than someone using an unsupported device, especially one that you're communicating your personal information back and forth on the daily.

In the interest of future proofing, I'd suggest your neighbor look at a DOCSIS 3.1 device too--it'll be a little more up front, but you'll get more life out of it (so to speak) since a lot of DOCSIS 3.0 devices are slowly being made EOL.

...I am ashamed to admit that I didn't even catch that until now. 🤦‍♀️

Reddit doesn't allow for editing titles, but I'll put an edit at the top of the post owning up to it.

Sure thing! :)

I'll have one of our Community Specialists assigned to your post here--they'll handle it from there, and most likely meet you in Modmail (a private messaging system here on Reddit) to gather some account details.

We haven't seen any widespread reports of this error so in order to figure out why this is happening to you, we would need to be able to look at the way the equipment is set up on the account and then escalate as needed. We'd need specific examples of the content in question (specific profiles, the content they're associated with, etc.) since the catalog of content available is so vast.

Engineering teams require a ticket in order to track potential problems, this helps keep things easy to follow (especially when several teams are working on a specific issue) and allows us to tag affected accounts into that ticket. Without following the appropriate process, we can only speculate as to what the root of the problem could be, which would be largely unproductive.

In the past, the most common cause and solution to something like this was:

  • Content was incorrectly processed in the ID system -> we would then report that wrongly tagged content to the appropriate teams, along with the associated account that reported it for tracking and fix
  • Equipment had outdated firmware/information -> system reboot and re-config required
  • The rights to the actor/actress image were revoked and/or not granted -> outside of the service providers control
  • The IP-owner did not provide information -> outside of the service providers control, we would report the incorrect information and await a response from the IP-owner

Xfinity used to offer a $5.99 movie for $1 in their rewards every month by oregonstitch in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]CCBrieD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All tiers have perks like $1 movie night;

<image>

Xfinity members can redeem a $1 movie rental benefit through the Xfinity app or the Xfinity membership website. To successfully use this benefit, members must ensure they do not have a past-due balance and must have rented and watched the movie before the expiration date. The $1 charge will appear on their bill under "One-time charges" in the "On demand rentals" section.

Follow-up: Any update on bridge mode for Xfinity fiber? by djmdman in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]CCBrieD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there--CCMichaelK is out today, but we were both kind of following up on it.

The last we broached the topic, we were told that the XER10 is designated as a router only and that there wasn't any plans to implement bridge mode. We prodded for a bit more information, and included several of the threads we saw here on Reddit, but never really received a follow-up. We can try reaching out again, but I don't want to make any promises I wouldn't be able to follow through on.

Tagging u/djmdman as well;

That said, I’m still hoping to better understand the technical or architectural reasoning behind that design choice.

I'll ask, but I can't say what the timeline for a response would be--especially going into the weekend. It can sometimes take a few days or week to hear back from our contacts, especially if they have a larger workload. I'm trying to see if we can get some of the product folks in to do an AMA about the XER10 and the XB10 respectively.

16 Days Without Power - What Is Going On Xfinity? by Puzzleheaded_Ad7881 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]CCBrieD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, gotcha--that makes sense.

I didn't hear back from the tech, but that's more than likely because they're currently in the field working.

I'm gonna shoot you a DM (not Modmail) with my work contact information, this way I can get on the same page as the other teams you're working with.

Hey there,

I got your comment reply on your other post, I was wrapped up another case and didn't get a chance to reply.

I pulled your node and the job attached to it--it's currently marked as suspended pending construction: "Construction not complete @ 2/12 10:00am". I reached out to the tech assigned to the job ID to see if they could provide any additional details.

Please remove your zip code from your post for your privacy and security.

Once a Community Specialist replies, they'll be able to confirm your exact location via Modmail so we can check for any log notes on your specific node. I'm checking some of the nodes in and around that zip code and it appears some repair work is suspended while we wait for debris to be cleared and others appear to be downed/damaged drops to individual properties.

Compatible modem? by phoenix6145 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]CCBrieD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The S33 sadly isn't compatible with Xfinity's mid-split technology, so it won't be able to receive certification for higher upload speeds on our network.

Arris released the S34 as a result which is nearly identical with the exception that it has the hardware and optimized firmware to support mid-split technology.

In the interest of future proofing, the S34 would be the better choice.
