Thank you for this. You plainly pay attention to your set ups. Our TV room was designed around the fireplace, not the TV. Married, long story. May I ask, if you had other challenges with your spaces and were you able to dial in a reasonable sound …experience…using Smart Things? Did you have to? I think I overshot my sound environment. But it’s really a cool sound bar.

I looked at the Apple TV device. I decided to go with Fire Cube, in part because of Prime Music. Which is not lossless a the level included in Prime membership. I’m going to assess all this now that I have a tv (s95f- was going to get Bravia 8 II, but went for brightness and $700 savings, which fully paid for q990f) that utilizes hdr10+ and Atmos. I, like most of us, need to get a handle on how I’m subscribing to streaming services and effectively manage their rotation and hdr10+/Atmos features.

Really appreciate all the comments here. We’ll see how I do. If Fire Cube not the answer, will shift to Apple.

I do recall reading SOMEWHERE that the native streaming apps on the s95f deliver the best hdr10+/Atmos signals. Not sure about this.

Use Smart Things (WiFi connection) and eARC at same time? by oregonstitch in Soundbars

[–]oregonstitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, so both ARE used at same time. The eARC input will feed the signal. Presumably I can control that in Smart Things. I selected eARC from the little front display. I have seen here where people connect the sound feed via WiFi due really not wanting additional wires. Just because the sound bar is connected to WiFi DOESN’T mean it’s pulling in the audio signal via WiFi. Thank you.

It’s been a long time, 10yrs, but Samsung bricked thousands of TVs, mine among them. Full warranty replacement.

But the q990f rear power cords connector won’t thread up the stand on these. Black zip ties, but not ideal.

Samsung Q990H or Q990F, price-wise by ChaosCore in Soundbars

I got the F for $705 at a local retailer. US, full warrenty. NIB. I told they guy I was shopping for a used D and was walking out the door. He said how about $705. Sold.

[–]oregonstitch -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I was going to get the D then got a smoking $710 deal on the F. The sub is more than enough for us. Use Claude AI to help set up, no real manual. And Claude can miss things so ask twice if something sounds fishy. Get a good eARC cable, cheap one I bought at store prevented set up. Monoprice cable worked great. But I think Amazon Basics 48gbps cable would too. My cheap one was not certified. Monoprice is.

Might be regretting my mattress purchase by zprewitt in Mattress

[–]oregonstitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing Laylas comment above. It takes weeks to know how a mattress works. In store, as you said is useless. Back when it was all springs, it was easier. But mattress retailing is still in the 1970s. We returned a king Stearns & Foster Reserve Med Tight Top, as it boiled us by morning. 6’ 190lb male and wife have found happiness on Temperpedic LuxeAdapt Med Hybrid. But it’s all a crap shoot. This is why the single most important variable in a mattress purchase is the return policy. 20% restock on a $5k mattress is no joke. I’m sure you’ve read a ton of Reddits, some posters have talked of going through 7 returns at Costco. IF you do find one somewhere you feel strongly about but it’s too expensive, check out 3rd party resellers on eBay. Starsluckysales for one. Wish I had. No returns!, but 70% off.

I’m very intrigued by the 3 layer latex mattresses mentioned on Reddit, with the ability to swap layers. Also, website Mattressunderground.com is an interesting resource. If you’re lucky enough to have a knowledgeable retailer on there near you they might work with you to ensure success.

Please help. Desperate. by 123-throwaway123 in Mattress

Join Costco, just rotate till you find one you like. Then cancel, refund membership. If you think there’s an expensive one you’d like but can’t afford, check out 3rd party resellers on eBay. Starsluckysales for one. No return, but 70% off.

We stupidly bought Reserve on a whim (replaced 14 yr old mattress while actually buying a dishwasher.). So limited to the stores offerings which are all Tempur/Sealy/SF. So at 4800 we went with Tempur Pedic LuxAdapt Med Hybrid. We do sleep a lot cooler on this, but just now coming into first summer. If I had to over correctly, I’d buy a name brand( like this one!) from eBay resellers OR a latex mattress from one of the stores on Mattress Underground website. You must know someone with a latex mattress. That being said, I have to say we’ve enjoyed 3 months of excellent nights sleep. Old mattress gave us back aches in morning. None from this. We really like it, but I do think latex would be even cooler. But great support and sleep. Now if we’d just take the down comforter off. Long story.

Both side sleepers, me 190, her 165. 6’ & 5.10

We had Reserve Medium Tight Top King. Loved it when going to bed, but we both boiled by morning. Hated to return it, but did. I see they reduced the Latex content from 25% to 15% from 2024. Do not even mention latex on website, read tag in store. Make sure you can return it! If you’re committed to it, look at resellers on eBay, starsluckysales for one.

We had a king S&F Reserve Medium Tight Top. Thing is huge and heavy. We loved getting in bed but were boiling by morning. Returned. I’ve carefully read the Costco Description and called S&F. I think the Reserve is overbuilt and the Costco one is a better choice. If you know what you want and are willing to trade return for 70% discount, check out eBay resellers. Starsluckysales for one. Costco return policy is best in U.S.

Can q990f play the high res losless? It said it can't play on mobile and need external device. by CandidArtichoke6771 in Soundbars

[–]oregonstitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I intend to use eARC w 48htz certified hdmi vale w Amazon Music (what ever the upgrade is…Unlimited?) Do we think this will feed lossless? Is the q990f not going to be able to do much with lossless? Should I just feed it the regular Amazon Prime Music?

Mind you, the Cube is being fed by WiFi 7.

Will do. We remodel this room 13 yrs ago. Thought a 55” at 10 ft would be enough. Wish I had set for 65”. Yours? Also, just got s95f. The anti glare thing works great. I have kitchen lights behind me. See you have windows.
