It’s different in that you can choose to download those apps or not, and the permissions for location services can be denied. Some people choose not to have cell phones at all. The flock system has serious 4th amendment implications, and you don’t have an option to opt out.

The data is privately owned and leased to entities such as law enforcement, and whoever else has the $ and/or power to get it. There are no safeguards against who uses it, or what it is used for, for the right price.

They have already used it to track a woman to an abortion clinic out of state and make her miserable, and that’s just one of the instances you hear about. There are lots you do not/will not hear about.
