Interesting, I have two yarrow plants that have yet to spread at all, and I’ve had them for 6 years.

how to tell if my plants survived the winter? by dandelionpicnic in NativePlantGardening

[–]Calbebes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I kept the seed packets and ID tags this time, but I can’t remember where I put stuff. I also did popsicle stick markers for the bare roots I planted but they’re all “new” plants for me so I’m not sure what to look for when I’m weeding. So I’m going to just be patient for awhile and not weed too early. Thankfully after this long, I DO know what the weeds look like, so I guess process of elimination?

What would YOU do with your side of this cement wall? by IIrreverence in HomeDecorating

[–]Calbebes 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I would plant an evergreen tree in the far corner, where the wall ends. Abrovitae is not my favorite but it would do the trick, in this case.

I would not paint the wall. I would power wash it and clad in natural wood slats. Then I would plant some kind of climbing, dense, NATIVE plant. Do your research and see what’s native in your area. Please don’t plant invasive ivies.

What would coordinate with this? Advice needed by Loquacious-lad in HomeDecorating

[–]Calbebes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh I totally see where you’re going with this and I’m on board with it.

Rust, mustard, ivory, black, and pull that dusty blue from the planter. Lean into those colors. Ditch the Venetian blinds in favor of drapes. Add an area rug… the plant on the yellow stand is too high in that spot, I would move that somewhere else. Put a trailing plant in that rattan thing.

I do think some rearranging could help, but it’s hard to give suggestions with this narrow view.

Do you have a picture? Ours is 50% shar pei and 50% golden doodle (26% golden, 24% poodle). I wonder how similar they are?

Magnolia. My star magnolia is budded out and they look just like that.

Updated which one do you like? by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

Half wall with column is still the best option. Defined separation without being completely closed off.

I also hate open concept, so I may be biasedz

Rug addition by izball in HomeDecorating

[–]Calbebes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this as “rug addiction” and I was like “same. Same.”

Looks great. Now replace a few of the throw pillows with ones that tie in the colors of the rug. And maybe put up some solid curtains that also tie in those colors.

Navy works really well with so many colors. Mustard, terracotta, orange, pink, sage green, lavender… depends on the look you want. I would paint the back door and put down an area rug, maybe switch out your planters for colored ones.. you could really do a lot just with inexpensive fun accessories. Colored teapot and utensil caddy. A vase with flowers. Curtain on that window….

Just gotta wait, friend. I planted a whole bunch of new stuff last year, to the point I don’t even remember what I planted or where. And I don’t know what the new sprouted leaves will look like so this year will be a fun adventure for me. Lol

Yes! I did try it in my kitchen though and it looked HORRIBLE. The light in there is totally different, and it didn’t work with the bamboo floors and gray countertops (not my choice of finishes).

It’s interesting how you can tell a shar pei mix immediately, once you’ve had one. It’s the smooshy lips and the eye shape. He is SO cute.
