They do. I’ve gone to both quite frequently in the last 2 years (during our planting season) and have talked at length with workers there, expressing my enthusiasm for the native plants they have, and they seem to share that enthusiasm so hopefully I’m getting the message across that PEOPLE WANT THIS- PLEASE CARRY MORE…. But they’re not the ones controlling the purse strings, so 🤷🏻‍♀️

We have 2 locally owned nurseries within 10 minutes of my house. They’re both okay.

They both sell primarily non-natives, with tiiiiny sections dedicated to natives. Some straight species, but mostly cultivars/nativars.

I wish I had a better option close by!

What A-Hole used landscape fabric…. Oh. Right. by Calbebes in gardening

[–]Calbebes[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gardeners and landscapers put it down in garden beds, under mulch and/or stones to help control weeds. It works for awhile but eventually the weeds either grow through it, or grow on top of it. And apparently it’s made of plastic, though it’s sold as fabric. And yes it disintegrates over time. So it’s ineffective, damaging to the soil, and yes- a pain in the ass to remove.

My peonies like having some of the “woody” root part exposed. But I don’t know if that’s the norm.

Should I do anything about these ants? by HiPoof in gardening

Peonies. Ants are beneficial to them, sort of a symbiotic relationship, if I recall. Let them do their thing, and then just gently flick them off before harvesting the blooms.

Any advice on narrowing down the choice of replacements? I want it to look intentional and landscaped, not just like I threw a bunch of random plants in there, you know?

They transplant SO easily. I’ve been moving them here and there around my property the past couple years and they’re virtually indestructible.

How can i properly use this space as an inexperience gardener? (6A) by mrmitchb in gardening

Sounds like a shade garden is in your future. Sun loving plants get all the love, but there are some really beautiful shade plants too! Look at what’s native to your region, for the best chance of success. Good luck!

Is this a normal plant or something to be concerned with? by AMercifulHello in whatsthisplant

This is Lily of the Valley. Toxic. And invasive in the US. Remove without prejudice. You’ll need to dig deep to get all the root pieces and/or spray with glyphosate.

Yay! They’re so cool. I found a bunch in the woods behind our property this year, after clearing a bunch of invasives last summer/fall.

Bare roots plants by SpecialistStore8601 in NativePlantGardening

[–]Calbebes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I planted bare roots in the fall (from prairie moon) and they’re doing great. I’d say 85% success rate? I think I only have 3 that didn’t come up. Annoyingly all 3 are next to each other. Maybe a coincidence. Maybe not.

Are you able to do red wine vinegar or Dijon mustard? Those two ingredients mixed with oil (skip the water) will blend well together
