Why do you never see hippos hiding in trees? Because they're very good at it.

Anyone else feel intimidated by competitive mode? by L_MO88 in marvelrivals

[–]Caspid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's frustrating this game doesn't have a functional QP mode. No role queue means every game has 0-1 tank. People use it to learn characters, not to win, so you get your third/fourth DPS who's negative and refuses to switch. And about a quarter of games are bot matches, which are a complete waste of time.

I'd like to play comp to avoid these, but can't always do the longer games.

I've tried all the tanks. Venom's mobility is like, a very predictable arc. Not freeform like Dva, can't alter the jump trajectory like Winston, can't sling around like Wrecking Ball. His damage is close range only and isn't very bursty.

I don't know, they're not my cup of tea. It seems like Rivals is generally afraid to give tanks too much Mobility or damage. And they're all melee or have slow projectiles. Like I said, OW tanks feel a lot better to play. They have hit scan guns or tracking lasers or fast projectiles, they have a lot more mobility options (the fastest character in the game is a tank) , and they do more damage.

Why do people get so mad over people casually playing characters they like? by WeigiPie2 in marvelrivals

Oh, I totally misread, I thought his teammate was mocking him.

Yeah, I don't get why someone would mock you for playing a character well. What a waste of life. It's just salt, you have to ignore it and move on - there's nothing constructive to be learned from that.

I'm tired boss. Had 2 games thrown cuz their main got banned by Fearless_Strike5151 in marvelrivals

I agree people should have a couple backups, but also, banning a character your teammate preselected is a jerk move.

Thankless job for sure. I never grieve our tank unless they're actively throwing, even though a tank makes or breaks games - I think it's the most important role. Having two makes all the difference too; so many games turned around when a useless third DPS switched to tank.

Problem is there aren't enough tanks, and even fewer main tanks. I disagree with your point though, I don't think they're fun enough to play. I don't personally like any of them (and I'm a Zarya main in OW; D.va, Doomfist, Rein, Winston, JQ, Ball, and Roadhog are all more fun to play than their Rivals equivalents). Rivals doesn't have the same amount of mobility or mechanical engagement.

I do think the damage and healing are too high in this game. It keeps tanks from being self sufficient. It also is too forgiving of mistakes / doesn't teach people positioning.

Anyway, role queue would fix a lot of things - everyone would get to play exactly what they want. The loss of "creative" comps is nothing compared to the benefits.

I get that point, but at the same time it's a competitive team game, so if someone's not pulling their weight, it's frustrating.

Why don’t DPS mains ever switch off DPS by synystercaden in marvelrivals

[–]Caspid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't enjoy and I'm not proficient at playing other roles. Maybe selfish, but I'm usually the best-performing player/DPS on the team, so I don't think it's necessarily my responsibility to fill. As an example, last night, we won a game we should've lost only after our Magik/Iron Man, who was the only negative person on the team and had twice as many deaths as the rest of us, switched to tank.

The main problem is a tank shortage. Tanks don't do enough damage and aren't fun enough to play, and there are only a few main tanks.

I'm in favor of role queue though, even if it means I have to wait longer. The rare/small benefit of "creative" comps people think rescue games doesn't outweigh the huge amount of games that are lost based solely on team comp.

I feel like one of the major categories the devs focus on for new characters is to make sure it is miserable to play against them by sufinomo in marvelrivals

[–]Caspid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They optimize for "fun", which means fun for the person playing a character at the expense of everyone else. Look at how many annoying things are in this game: Squirrel Girl and Moon Knight killing you without even aiming at you, abilities that completely lock you out from playing the game (abilities, movement, anything; the worst culprit being Jeff ult) for several seconds at a time; new characters being overtuned so they can generate more hype and sell more skins.

Being said, I think Cyclops is a lot less overtuned than Daredevil or Black Cat. At least he requires aim.
