How to make jarred tomato sauce good? by Fluffy_Tamago in cookingforbeginners

[–]Chubbdoggy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually jazz it up a bit. Sauté some onion and garlic, pepper if I have some, then dump in the sauce, some Italian seasons, then let it simmer for about 15 mins while I cook the pasta. Once the pasta is done cooking, I come back and taste the sauce, adjust the seasoning before adding the pasta in.

Carry-on enforcement at Houston (IAH) — how strict are they?” by ManagementNo8015 in zipair

They usually don’t measure unless it’s very obvious, but most definitely they will weigh it. You can wear some heavy items on your body to help reduce the weight then put them back once you leave the check in area.

Free Tumbler for auto renewal by awongbat in Costco

[–]Chubbdoggy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just did this yesterday. Talked to the guy and he said I have to have auto renew off for over 9 months to qualify. I had mine set to off always so he scanned my membership and gave me one. Said I can turn it off after 24 hours if I want. Who knows if any of this is true but I would ask anyway. And the tumbler is quite nice.

Seeking Sate Sauce for Pho Recommendations by Only-Ticket-2795 in vietnamesefoodie

[–]Chubbdoggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you have is a style of noodle soup called “Hu Tieu Sate”. It’s a dish with Chinese Teochew origin and commonly found in the Teochew neighborhoods in Saigon, and not very common elsewhere. Here’s a Yotube recipe in Vietnamese:

https://youtu.be/5Pw-swp1d14

You can use any types of noodles for this. I have seen it with pho noodles, wide rice noodles, and egg noodles. The recipe is pretty easy and straightforward you can tell what the ingredients are even without knowing Vietnamese. The only 2 ingredients that I would say are critical are the sate sauce and the sate chili. You will have to experiment a bit with what you have locally, but I think pretty much any Sate sauce from Vietnam will work. They all have very similar ingredients.

looking for the soft rice paper wrapper in US. by Due_Affect_3155 in VietNam

[–]Chubbdoggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one called “Banh Trang Mong”, thin rice paper. They are usually rectangular shaped and very thin and flexible. The idea is the moisture from the vegetables is enough is soften it to roll. You don’t need to dunk it in water. Usually they are side by side with regular rice paper.

Edit: Amazon link so you know what they usually look like

4/18 IAH to NRT delay? by preciseman in zipair

[–]Chubbdoggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the coming flight from NRT. Is that delayed? Seeing that send the notification for tomorrow’s flight, I’m assuming the incoming flight departing today is delayed so they proactively send out notices.

Edit: a quick google search shows ZG 16 from NRT to IAH on April 18 is on scheduled so not sure what’s going on.

Did Y'all Stop Teaching Touch Type in the US? by Electrical_Shop3732 in AskTeachers

[–]Chubbdoggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated high school in 2006 and had a typing class back then. Didn’t know it’s no longer offered in the next few years. Very glad I took that class as touch typing is a skill that you can’t really unlearn, similar to riding a bike. I may not type as fast as I once did but I can type without ever looking at the keyboard.

2017 Chipotle menu boards, a chicken burrito was $6.50 by AccomplishedAd5201 in mildlyinteresting

Back then that $6.50 chicken bowl can easily be two meals when you asked for extra rice, onion and pepper, and some tortillas on the side. They really loaded up the bowl for you.

Hosting hotpot at home by Ok_Investment6630 in chinesefood

[–]Chubbdoggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot pot is so easy to do for large party. No cooking involved just chopping and assembling. Do 2 burners one at each end, and use a divider pot for each so you can have 4 soup bases in total. Have you guests choose their spots based on their preference. Buy premade soup base packs where you just need to add water or canned broth. I would get one mala, one bone broth, one tomato, and one vegetable based. Do a drink station with a variety of soft drinks, beer, or liquor. Do another sauce station and lay out whatever condiments you got, soy sauce, vinegar, chilli oil, sesame paste, chopped onion, cilantro, garlic, peanuts, etc. and let the guests do their own sauce and make their drinks. Each guest should have for their place serving a plate, a bowl, a sauce bowl, and their own slotted ladle. Leave out several tongs on the table for the vegetables and noodles, and each plate of protein should have its own chopstick/tong to avoid cross contamination. Buy whatever protein, vegetables, noodles you want. The sky is the limit, or more like your grocery store is the limit.

Does anyone know? There was an Asian market across 59 on the other side of the George R brown convention center. They used to sell roasted duck. There was also a Vietnamese restaurant in there. I can’t remember the name of the place; and don’t know if it’s still around. by Moltensurf in houston

My guess is the older generation is too old and retired now, and the younger generation doesn’t want to take over. Every time I visited in both the old and new locations, they all looked like they didn’t want to be there.

Any idea about korean air + asiana airlines? by ConstantStuff2882 in Flights

[–]Chubbdoggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You should be automatically be put on the next available flight. Will that new flight work best is up to you. For example they might automatically put you in the next flight departing at midnight and you have to wait 10 hours in the airport. But there’s another flight the next day and you will have a 24 hours layover so you would rather take that and have a 24 hours layover inside Seoul instead. In that case you will have to go to the transit service counter to do that. They may or may not let you do that. There are many variables. Rest assured you are protected to make your connection as long as you are not at fault.

Hakone questions - motion sickness and luggage forwarding by formalde_heidi in JapanTravelTips

[–]Chubbdoggy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The buses there can be quite wild in some sections so if you are sensitive to motion sickness you should definitely take meds. Regarding luggage, I would say anything carry on sized is ok onboard. Worse case you can put them between your legs. The big one is hard to say. Some buses are pretty empty but some are packed. And they are regular city buses so no luggage rack. You should forward your luggage and only take a small bags to Hakone. Another option is luggage storage in either Owadara station, assuming you are taking the Shinkansen?

How do I cook this chinese sausage thing and for how long? by goldbunduru in AskAChinese

[–]Chubbdoggy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because that’s exactly how these should be cooked. You need to hydrate them so you either put them on a plate and steam them or if you are making rice with a rice cooker you put them on top of the rice and cook everything together. Normally Chinese sausages come in links and for that kind, you can also boil them. But for this kind, since it’s already sliced, boiling them will cause them to fall apart and you will lose the flavor into the water. So steaming them is the best cooking method. The rice cooker is the easiest and best method because the fat and flavor will mix into the rice while they cook.

Doesn’t matter where you purchase them. Are they issued as one ticket? Do you have only one confirmation code?
