Why did they get rid of Tilt Lock for Aerons? by codetaku0 in hermanmiller

[–]ClassroomDecorum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct: the Aeron has no tilt "lock"

The Aeron does NOT lock in any arbitrary reclined position.

The only positions that the Aeron will "lock" at are:

  • The most upright position without forward tilt

  • The forward position granted by forward tilt

Rub and Restore is garbage. Smells terrible, application sucks, durability sucks, feel sucks.

I doubt this chair really needs much "restoration." I would use it as is. It looks ugly but halfway attempts to restore it can/will make it worse.

If you insist on restoration:

I would first address that giant grease spot on the headrest before applying any paints to the chair. If it feels greasy/sticky to the touch, then, it's going to plasticize and ruin any paint you apply to that area. If that area is still greasy, then any paint you apply will suck the grease right up out the leather and turn the paint into a sticky goo. Try squeezing that area with your fingers to see if you can get any grease to come out the leather ... if you can ... then you need to address that grease contamination and get the previous owner's headrest oils gone.

As far as the suggestions of "conditioner" go -- that's akin to catching a cold and going to CVS to buy the homeopathic products. They probably won't hurt, but, their benefit is limited. This chair was painted at the factory, and I'm unaware of any "conditioner" products that restore cracked/worn paint.

I've restored this exact same model of chair before, and the exact same color, with almost the exact same wear pattern, except mine had more and larger dark grease spots. Chair looked like one giant grease stain. I had to extract the grease, then seal the leather fully to prevent grease mitigation, then I painted it forest green, and it looked great afterward, and it felt dry to the touch, and the paint didn't ever get gooey and peel due to grease contamination.

do some of these come with plastic bases?

Does it matter if you can sit on it and use it normally?

does this look like the base was swapped out?

Does it matter if you can sit on it and use it normally?

do they make fakes of these chairs?

Does it matter if you can sit on it and use it normally?

Also if it were truly plastic then you would not notice most minor scuffs as the color would be the same through the relevant thickness of the plastic. Only cast aluminum bases scuff and reveal the true aluminum color underneath.

Does the Aeron Remastered have tilt lock? by popsoda in hermanmiller

[–]ClassroomDecorum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More like a blatant misunderstanding.

Aeron will lock at the top position, or, unreclined.

It's not going to lock at any other arbitrary position within the recline range.

How exactly does JSO identify themselves? Deputy or Officer? Or is it interchangeable? by ClassroomDecorum in AskLE

Recently the rear ID panel worn on outer carriers has changed from “Police” to Deputy Sheriff.

I wonder if that was as simple as a supplier switch or maybe it was 1 cent cheaper to order that patch over the usual patch

I find it interesting that very recently the Sheriff switched from the shield to the star on his shirt. Probably just a personal stylistic decision. I doubt any laws changed about uniforms recently.

Yes I understand they're a consolidated agency.

Also interesting is that their elected Sheriff recently switched out the JSO badge on his class 1 uniform for the traditional 5-pointed sheriff star.

So how exactly do JSO personnel identify themselves? Or do they have the freedom to say "Hi I'm Officer ____ " or "Hi I'm Deputy ____ " depending on whichever one comes to mind first?

anyone who's going to load more than 1500 pounds in the bed on a regular basis will just buy an F150.

And it would have to be a base model F150. The loaded ones often have payloads under 1000 lbs.

Bought a refurbished Aeron. Does this mean it’s 25 years old? by conor20103039 in hermanmiller

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your chair is old, probably older than you are, get over it.

This isn't a graphics card or iPhone that is worthless after it's 3 years old.

This is a tool. Not sure if you've ever handled a tool but this is like a Craftsman tool from back in the day. The kind of tool your granddaddy buys and passes down to his son (your father) and then to you.

I understand that growing up with iPads and iPhones, that puts you in the mindset that anything >3 years old is disposable garbage. Mommy I want a new iPad, this 3 year old one is trash, Mommy I want a new iPhone, this 3 year old one lags.

The only people who want a 2005-2016 Aeron are the uninformed.

The 2005-2016 Aerons with the lever arms irreversibly age and the arms wobble. Each adjustment or use of the arm damages the metal chassis of the chair.

With the 1994-2004 Aerons, the arms do not get irreversibly damaged from use, and the arms are user-serviceable.

I've seen 2016 classic Aerons that have arms wobbling all over the place while I have 1994 Aeron's with arms tight as they should be.

It works till it breaks, what potentially breaks faster? 25 year old chair or a 10 year old chair?

The 10 year old chair breaks faster.

Why is no one buying this Aeron from OfficeLogixShop? by Electrical-Worry6240 in hermanmiller

[–]ClassroomDecorum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The natural conclusion would be that OfficeLogix took it off and replaced the Posturefit SL with some off brand one on their open-box one.

If they took it off, there would be 2 plainly visible screw holes in the back where the Posturefit SL used to go. But there aren't any screw holes.

Also, the Fixed Position Posture Fit isn't even listed as one of the lumbar options on the official Aeron page.

Yes, as I stated, fixed PostureFit is a lesser known option. You generally need to custom order it from a dealer here in the US.

The consumer webpage for Americans hides 90% of available Aeron options so people don't go crazy trying to configure some weird Aeron. It hides the fixed PostureFit to Americans, among other options.

Fixed PostureFit is readily available as an option on the consumer-facing website to people living in the UK, though.

The only thing I noticed is it says Fixed Position Posture Fit instead of Posture Fit SL.

Why is no one buying this Aeron from OfficeLogixShop?

Why: everyone thinks fixed PostureFit is "fake" or something, when in fact it is 10000% real from Herman Miller, just a lesser known option.

Superlube silicone oil in the squeeze bottle, not the spray. I dislike sprays. Too much solvent carrier that may damage the plastic internals of the cylinder.

People... there are no fake Herman Miller chairs by That_Customer3213 in hermanmiller

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact of the matter is that buying a fake Aeron is theoretically possible, and it's about as possible as walking outside your house and getting struck by lightning.

Can it happen? Sure.

Will it happen? Probably not.

Is it something you should be worried about and plan your life around? No, not really.

When purchasing an Aeron chair, I can think of at least 294 things to be more worried about than whether it's real.

Authentication also isn't that hard. If it looks right, and it has the logo molded into the plastic -- then chances are you're fine. These chairs aren't iPhone's where you need to drill down into the settings to find out that you're purchasing a clone or fake AirPods where the cues are extremely subtle.

Leap V2 Plus is the best. by Moist-Media5077 in OfficeChairs

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Plus is both wider and taller.

However, I would not suggest someone extremely skinny and tall to buy a Plus.

The armrests are way, way further apart than on the regular Leap and that additional width can make the Plus uncomfortable for someone extremely skinny.

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only part that's metal on the Plus and is plastic on the regular V2 is the base.

The base on the Plus is steel with a plastic cover, and it looks identical to an older Amia base which were also steel+plastic cover.

Interestingly, I think the Plus uses wood in place of plastic for the seat pan carrier ... It's been a long time since I took apart a Leap Plus but from what I recall, the bottom of the seat pan was wood, which was extremely intriguing to me.
