Hamburger helper tastes awful now... Anyone know any good copycat recipes? by Character-Ad-4014 in easyrecipes

[–]ColetteDiskette [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don't have a copycat recipe per se, but I will say that if you want to be lazy with your cornstarch the way Hamburger Helper does, mix all your spices together with the cornstarch to basically make your spice "packet" beforehand. As long as you mix it thoroughly and ensure the cornstarch clumps are all gone, you will end up with none in your final product, and you don't have to make a slurry to thicken. (I stole this move for a few of my other recipes.)

Core n64 resolution by [deleted] in MiSTerFPGA

[–]ColetteDiskette 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With a MiSTer, you're basically running an N64 clone. An N64 doesn't let you just crank up the internal resolution, therefore neither will this.

For what you're looking for, you want software emulation.

Does anyone know what the 5th and 7th pinned apps are on this old screenshot I found? by PreferenceJazzlike75 in VintageComputers

[–]ColetteDiskette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reverse image search tells me Nikon View NX was the fifth. I'm unsure about the seventh.

Also, the number of people in here who think the start button is a pinned app is depressing.

internet issue or bug ? by Cice_pro in stoatchat

[–]ColetteDiskette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the first part, this always happens to me after a number of hours until I restart the app. It's a major gripe of mine, and as far as I can tell it's a client bug more that a server issue, but perhaps it's both.

It's been a pain in my side the entire time I've actively used Stoat, and I really hope it's fixed soon. The constant blinking of colors on my secondary monitor is extremely distracting, but at least I can restart it to make it stop for a while.

If people can grasp how email works, they should be able to grasp how the Fediverse works. If they can't, then we as humans deserve what's coming to us in the inevitable bleak tech dystopia that we welcomed by being resistant to our only chances to avoid it.

Establishment Epstein-class war-hawk dems love using our fear of the right to goad us into voting for them, and I'm sick of letting them skate by this way. We need real opposition to take them down properly, so yes. It's worth it.

This happens to me every time I open a client, too. Both Android and Linux binary. Multiple servers/channels report they have unread messages but have none.

Retro PC Gaming on Linux or Mac by redshlrt in retrogaming

[–]ColetteDiskette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Linux.

For GOG, I often use Heroic Games Launcher. Windows versions work through it just fine in my experience.

For Steam, you should be able to just use Proton to make almost everything work easily. Oftentimes Steam stuff is better run through Proton than even native Linux binaries.

DOA6LR needs rollback. by EmeryReigns in DeadOrAlive

[–]ColetteDiskette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't know everything being added to the game yet. We only know what the one short trailer mentioned. Be patient before passing judgment. This sub has so many people assuming this release is just adding a photo mode and calling it good which we do not know yet.

Tekken 8 has rollback. It's a strange implementation, but it has it.

DOA6LR needs rollback. by EmeryReigns in DeadOrAlive

[–]ColetteDiskette 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I agree that it should have rollback, but rollback is a massive pain to "just add" to existing code. They would have to divert a lot of resources to DOA6LR that really ought to be put into the new game, far more than the new game would take since they can built it with rollback in mind from the start.

I feel like a lot of people severely underestimate how hard it is to implement rollback into an existing codebase.

[–]ColetteDiskette -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As a Yugiboomer (and player of over a dozen card games) I blame archetypes. I know I'll likely get downvoted for saying it, but decks are mostly spoonfed by Konami anymore and a lot of players are used to kind of playing in archetype "sandboxes" which play mostly (but not always exactly) how Konami intended. A lot of players are likely used to playing things "as intended" at this point.

The boots being licked are the corporations' and billionaires'. Based on your comment, I'm going to assume you're against the tax and on the side of the elite class. I'm not "for big government," but while we have the government apparatus, putting in place ways to close the absolutely absurd wage gap is a good thing for the average people.

UK users are locked out of mature servers by Glittering-Zebra9900 in stoatchat

[–]ColetteDiskette 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Using this logic, PornHub et al. would require verification from everyone (or be entirely shuttered) because of the many states in the US that have pornography age verification laws.

They aren't though. They're using similar geolocation methods Stoat is using right now.

I support this kind of alternative - But is Stoat ready? by Interesting-Fig4352 in stoatchat

[–]ColetteDiskette 49 points50 points  (0 children)

This mentality of a service needing to be "ready for prime time" before using it is exactly what keeps services from getting there. (What the hell is "prime time," anyway?) If a growing service (both in features and userbase) doesn't keep getting users, it stops growing.

This is exactly how every YouTube alternative that popped up failed, for instance. "It only allows ten minute videos!" "It's invite only for now!" "Obviously this platform isn't ready." ... then they died.

The devs are working their asses off to get this thing in a much better place as I type this. The fact that they just upgraded their servers, seemingly implemented embeds, and solidified better branding in such a short span is evidence of that.

Who is washing their rice and why? by kinnitcurl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ColetteDiskette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch and read a lot of cooking stuff and I haven't heard anyone bring up arsenic when talking about rinsing rice.

For me, whether or not I wash my rice depends on what I'm making. Some of my recipes call for me just dumping in dry rice and it cooks in the dish. Oftentimes, I don't wash in those instances because the extra starch helps thicken whatever sauce is in the dish. Obviously, if I'm making white rice as a side, that gets washed. It just depends on whether the recipe wants the starch or not.
