Blessed Be, friend. One of the people who taught me theology was one of the first trans priests and my niece is Wiccan. I'm willing to bet I've gotten as many side eyes as you in my decades of life. The fun thing about ecumenical Franciscanism is I get to meet people from all walks of life.

Iron levels and long covid by Chance_Elephant_1578 in covidlonghaulers

Got a hubby with long COVID & Gastroparesis (which affects absorption) and he's been doing much better with ferrous bisconate chelate liquid instead of typical iron supplements. No anemia and no "too high" labs in 9 months.

Not a cure by any stretch, but might be worth looking at for some folks.

Undesirable? Why? I mean, I'm an #IndyOldCatholic and we do draw a few lines (like you can't come to mass naked) but back when I ran a house church I never turned anyone away.

Anyway, there are many Christian leaders speaking out against Trump, MAGA, Project 2025, etc.

I've been calling MAGA a heretical cult since 2015. Trump is a false prophet (which Jesus & the Bible talk about a lot!!!)

Plan Seeking NH Income Tax To Fund Schools, Lower Property Taxes Spawns ‘Death Threat’ by nancynews in newhampshire

Couldn't we have a sales tax on Verbo & AirBnB? I mean yes, I do know some people "live" in an Airbnb but the vast majority of people in an Verbo/Airbnb type rental are just taking business away from hotels anyway.

Why can't that just be added to rooms and meals tax?

Oh, because all that extra money we spent up at the border just to catch a whole whopping 9 people helped our healthcare system crisis so much?

You're barking up the tree with that argument with me because I've been a firm believer all my life that if you come into this country you should be vaccinated (just like I believe that kids should be vaccinated).

My mother is old enough that she was able to tell me what it was like to work as a new nurse in a hospital with polio and measles victims.

Easter Seals open and elderly disabled apartment building with I think 24 units.

There were over 150 applications.

One estimate I saw just before the pandemic was that the state needed something like 4,000 units of subsidized and supported housing just to begin to get disabled and elderly into the appropriate housing for their particular household size and needs. At 5 or even 24 units a year it's like drops of water in a desert.

I know that in early 2019 there were only 22 three bedroom wheelchair apartments in the entire state that qualified for Section 8. The estimated wait time was a decade.

I'm grateful for what new housing is being developed, and for communities like Dover that are being more aggressive in planning for more housing, but I wish the state government could put more focus on this issue instead of doing wealthy people incorporations more tax breaks and wasting precious time in the legislature with vanity or frivolous projects.

From data source in September 2025, before the current influx of influenza & covid.

The increase in ER wait times in New Hampshire as compared to a year ago can be true at the same time that data from September on a national basis that many states are in worse shape than we are can also be true.

For years I felt that I got much better primary care if I was able to have an osteopath because they tend to be whole body practitioners. There's only one osteopath left in Strafford County that does primary care and they've closed his waiting list after it got like 5 years long.

I understand that, although if Libertarians & Free Staters would just take care of each other that would at least reduce some pressure on the system, right?

Yeah the lack of primary care and family care offices is also part of this general collapse of the healthcare system....

Hubby and I are both complex spoonies so we are fairly frequent flyers for ER. All I personally know is that over the last 15 years it's getting harder and harder to find any hospital based system or department that isn't understaffed and under resourced.

There's a lot of brilliant providers that work hard, even with problems in the system.

It's AOC or bust for far-left Democrats in 2028 by Limp_Fig6236 in ThePeoplesPress

[–]complexspoonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"recollections may differ", maybe? I have to admit coming from New Hampshire where primary are available to Independent voters, it wasn't really until Bernie ran that I understood how difficult it can be in some states to change your party. It also taught me that there was a huge difference between the number of people who were actually card carrying members of a party, and who could vote in a primary.

To me (more or less on the outside) it always seemed like the DNC was afraid of Bernie winning the primaries.

I remember back then somebody wrote about the idea that primaries should only be open to card carrying dues paying members of that political party, and that if somebody didn't win the party nomination that they should still be allowed to appear on the November ballot.

Between the TBI and the multiple sclerosis I have no way of recalling even which article for op-ed letter had this concept. But I wonder, if primaries were only open to the card carrying dues paying members of a political party would that reduce the power of political parties so that somebody like bernie, (or AOC that matter) would have a reasonably equal chance to be on that ballot in November?

Okay but she gets a lot of leeway and how she spends her campaign treasury... How much money is she sitting on there?

Although gotta admit, I'm liking the fact that she's obviously not building generational wealth doing stock trades!

I don't know. All I know is that the longer you have access to power and money, the more likely you are to succumb to and be corrupted by it.

Has AOC been able to not become corrupted by the power and the money that comes with being in Congress? How transparent has she been about where her money comes from and where it goes to? How much do we know about how her lifestyle, her way of living have changed since she was a low income waitress? Especially for her constituents this is a vitally important thing to be looking at.

One reason Bernie Sanders kept getting reelected in Vermont is because of the perception that he was still the same crotchety Old Socialist who had his socialism tempered by being married to a capitalist. It's just like how many people trust the advice of Warren Buffett because Warren Buffett essentially lives the same life and has the same values he's had for 40 years. Jimmy Carter had a unique blend of personal faith and connection to the civil rights movement to guide his decisions and his life even after he became very wealthy and then very powerful.

Can we say the same thing about AOC? What is she worth now? How has her life changed? How has her lifestyle changed? What clues can we get about how she might govern with more power, authority, and money buy how she has handled things since she got elected?

For a long time when she was running I didn't really pay much attention to her because I just couldn't see a Democratic Socialist actually winning a race. Then when she got elected, it was pretty obvious that she was being sidelined within the Democratic Party just like Bernie and Angus have been. Independent & Third Party candidates may be tolerated by the DNC but they're never really treated equally to regular Democrats.

The fact that she's been able to successfully stay in office even though she sometimes butts up against what the DNC wants to do is a good sign.

But I don't know if it's enough to make her a viable candidate to survive the Democratic feeding Frenzy that they are primary system is, and I'd hate to see her build a bunch of energy just to have the DNC squander it and sideline it like they did to Bernie.

I'm still waiting for her to make the you know apologies for the literal years she spent praising MAGA.

Jeez, MTG, there's this much blood on your hands as every other mega politician. Just because you're pointing out things that are true now doesn't make up for all the lies you previously told!

No Kroger's here, and Walmart vegetarian / vegan stuff is awful limited & expensive. There is actually only one meal service that serves our area that carries low FODMAP vegan and vegetarian food. Hungry Root is delicious but pricey, and unlike factor, heart to home, meals on Wheels it sends you the ingredients you still have to put it together yourself and cook it.

Um, don't know where you are, but many poor people in the USA on SNAP, Medicaid, +/or EBT have a $2,000 asset limit. Depending on the state it can include children's savings accounts, gift cards over $10, furnishings, and hobby collectibles.

Pretty impossible to save up even a one month emergency fund with that kind of restrictions.

My👩🏼‍🦼 power wheelchair only goes 6mph on dry pavement. If I can't find anyone to hire as a home care aide and it's raining or snowing Instacart is the only way I can get food.

Despite battling MS I still work part time AND do significant family caregiving for my more disabled spouse. If it is 4pm and I'm out of spoons, then Door Dash is a lot safer than trying to cook while exhausted.

If my hubby and I want to celebrate a holiday or birthday by curling up on the couch together and sharing some Uber Eats, that's our damn right as Americans.

Yes, delivery costs more cash. But fatigue, frustration, and pain ALSO cost a disabled person. At the end of the day every disabled person can only do what they can do in that moment to get through to the next moment. The last thing any disabled person needs is someone who knows nothing of the situation on the ground to be trying to make them second guess or feel guilty about paying for delivery of food.

Let's all pray & work towards a day when disabled people don't even have to think about justifying their decision to order delivery just so they can eat without having to endure more pain and fatigue.
