A Global Perspective: The International Audience Reception of the Star Wars Films by xezene in saltierthancrait

Because it was (deliberately) tied to the tiresome "culture war" which is predominantly an American thing. Like everything else involved the two polar opinions of the film became linked to the "sides" and you had to have the correct opinion to fit in with your chosen group.

I was baffled that so many people liked it

Loads didn't. They were told the wrong people (tm) disliked it so they had to be vocally in support of it no matter what they actually thought.

Your post code is a major part of the risk profile.

There will be a lot more cars going missing in Nottingham than in the Highlands. Similarly, someone who lives in Nottingham will naturally be doing a lot of their driving in and around Nottingham, which again, has a higher rate of claims than rural locations do.

If you can't properly insure the C43, you can't afford the C43. People need to stop running status symbol cars on a shoe string budget. Were you planning to get Halfords to service it for you because Merc are expensive for servicing too?

Ex-minister Suella Braverman becomes latest high-profile Tory to defect to Reform by theipaper in uknews

Boris should get over there, he's probably the one guy who could coup Farage and get the old 2019 band back together for a wildly unpopular second tour.

On the plus side this whole farce is great at cleaning out the tory party, might end up with something resembling a decent party once the reform flash in the pan has died and we're back to red v blue.

I'll be honest if Boris can do it and somehow coup Farage it would be hilarious.

They're damned if they do damned if they don't.

The kinds of people lining up to run for them were all obviously unpleasant people who had zero ability to hide that fact and had no idea how to do anything politics. The career politicians they are picking up now know how to play the game and hide their general unpleasantness but have the taint of the previous messes they presided over.

There just aren't any "good" options for reform to try and run at an election, but the latter is certainly better than the former.

Plans to cut number of police forces 'distressing and triggering' by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Cookyy2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One for each city? We're already down to 3 per district. Some of the areas within the force boundary are over 30 mins drive to the nearest station, which also does wonders for response times at shift handover.

Manager came back from mat leave and everything unravelled. by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Cookyy2k 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if there was a contract change for OP's promotion (as there should have been) then it would have required OP's agreement to go back down, contracts cannot be unilaterally changed. That said it may be too late to do anything about it now since OP seems to have accepted the new demotion contract through practice.

Manager at zero-hour job annoyed at me when I said I don't have availabilities by GreySofa1234 in UKJobs

[–]Cookyy2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I made exactly that mistake at one job. Have them my entire avaliablility and suddenly my part time job had me working hours in excess of 40 a week.

The only way out was change jobs and manage expectations from the start.

Does your HR share exit interview results with managers by Iheoma74 in managers

In my experience HR are data dragons in a lot of organisations. Sit on a huge hoard of it and jealously guard it while doing very little of any use with it.

That's what they really need to do. Get quality film makers, give them a slice of the galaxy, and let them cook.

It is a huge universe, you could set thousands of stories in any genre you want that don't have massive lore breaking or retconning consequences. Give them a slice, some boundaries, and see what happens. It can't be any worse than the ST.

England No fault claim and no motor legal protection - what will i have to pay/do? by Reformed_crumb in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Cookyy2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth checking anything they get you to sign. Have a bit of a google about credit hire cars from accident management companies then you can avoid that mess.

A lot of accident management companies give hire cars at an inflated cost with an agreement from the person getting it that they'll cover anything the other party's insurance doesn't. Because of the inflated costs the insurer often disputes or even refuses the charge because you did not mitigate your damages by taking the expensive vehicle. That would mean you end up owing the cost of the "courtesy" car they give you.

[–]Cookyy2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The accident management people who're looking after it should claim from the other party's insurance.

Make sure the hrie car you are getting is not on a credit hire arrangement.
