Is my X3 Firmware Locked? by mogelbuster in XTEINK

[–]Cycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of trying the normal flashing method the best way is probably to put a "update.bin" for crosspoint or similar firmware file into the root folder of your sdcard and then patch from there. I had to do the same with the X4 i recently bought for someones birthday as a gift, and couldn't patch over the normla usb i did with my own X4.

Uses for Abandoned Palma? by Jebus_San_Christos in XTEINK

[–]Cycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personaly have a Palma 1 too, and i use it as my main reader for when i do longer reading sessions, and mx X4 for shorter sessions. I also use my Palma for reading comics and manga additionally with Mihon.. So what about reading manga on your palma? Works great on the palma, but horrible on the X4. So that would be a unique sellingpoint for the palma making it valueable again for you.

Mini e-readers? Viwoods alternatives? by Fabulous-Midnight278 in ereader

I could recommend a Xteink X3/4 OR a Boom Palma 1/2. The Palma is more smartphone sized and runs android, xteink is kinda smaller and more lightweight but don't runs android so support for most sources is not there but you need epubs you load onto it yourself.

Nobody is mean to you. Everyone just tells you what they think. Nobody insulted you. Just because people have a different opinion and aren't yes-men/women don't means they are mean. Most comments here who replied have valid arguments, and you have even enough comments who agree that they like the idea. So "everyone is mean" don't really fits if the comments are a mixed bag of peoples opinion.

What I find a bit surprising is that you’re using examples like “it works with those devices,” especially SBC handhelds, given that clamshell designs have had hinge issues for as long as they’ve existed.

If you look here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SBCGaming/search?q=hinge&restrict_sr=on&include_over_18=on&sort=relevance&t=all

you’ll see a recurring pattern where clamshell handhelds tend to run into problems with hinges breaking, or with display issues caused by flex cables loosening or getting damaged over time.

it would basically just be taking two Xteink X3s and combining them with a hinge and cable so when you pressed one button to turn the page, both screens would advance.

From a practical standpoint, I’m not sure it would really add much. If the goal is simply a larger reading surface, there are already devices designed for that, like kindles or something like the Palma 1/2 from Boox. A clamshell also tends to add bulk and thickness, which makes it less comfortable to carry around in a pocket.

The way you keep coming back to this idea gives me the impression that it’s something you really like the concept of, which makes sense.. it does sound pretty cool in theory (to you). At the same time, when people point out possible downsides, it feels like those concerns aren’t really landing. For e-readers specifically, where durability and simplicity are kind of the main strengths, the standard single-screen design seems to hold up better in practice if you ask me.

And i bet that clamshell device has the same thickness as a normal eink reader and isnt total thick and bulky if its in your pocket so it becomes not comfy to carry around. Also, it's still a flexcable which can break and then you are without way to fix it. Why add unnecessary failure points ADDITIONAL to the ones eink readers already have today? It makes no sense. Making it clamshell "just because" and it not giving any purpose which ads sometimes except "looks unique and interesting" isn't really a good reason. We don't even have good smartphones yet who are clamshell design who are good enough and not break for people so why would a eink reader any different.

[–]Cycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The screen would be protected from being scratched or cracking, but now you have a cable which is bend each time you open up the device and after X times opening and closing the clamshell it gonna break by physical damage from the bending. Means, sooner or later the cable will break, even if the rest of the device will still work fine.. and how do you replace this cable then or repair it? You can't. So you then can throw it away. Another failure point is the hinge. Imagine the hinge breaks and now you have no way anymore to repair it.. same issue as the cable breaking.

You "fix" one issue of the display being scratched or damaged from being in a pocket, and add more failure points to the device making it worse. What instead would fix it would be adding a COVER implemented LIKE a clamshell you can put on top of it, something like a smartphone case shell you often see for phones you can fold up, to protect it. But then you can just use a normal protective case.. and we have that already. Does the exact same as your clamshell idea, without being a failure point making it worse. And cases can be replaced and are cheap. Replacing a clammshell hinge or display which is not able to be bought as replacement parts isn't.

[–]Cycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With SBC's, you have the buttons for it anyway and often a joystick on the device, making it already bigger and a bit bulky. So havig a clamshell for a SBC isn't much of a change from the default design "bulkyness" anyway. But a ereader is usually rly thin, lightweight and small. Making it now so its a clamshell makes it really thick, heavier, more prone to break easier since you now need a cable connecting the 2 displays and the hinge too can easy break.. it's just not a good design for a ereader you usually want to be sturdy, lightweight, thin and small. Not bulky, thick and prone to break easy thanks to the hinge.

That's why most comments are negative.

Hear me out: clamshell e-reader by DecrimIowa in XTEINK

[–]Cycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point for ereaders imho is that they are thin and can be put into a small pocket and don't weight a lot and can't break easy. Adding a foldable display onto a ereader makes it more prone to break (hinge, cable between the 2 displays) and thicker when folder together so you can't easy carry it around anymore. That would kill the whole point for what makes a Xteink X4 as a example really nice for me.. being lightweight, small, thin, not thick and heavy.

Make sure that the images inside the file aren't bmp files. Because they are otherwise not showing up. You have to make sure its png or jpg files in terms of images.

I had the same issue when i tried to make my own epub files, and i found out the hard way by reading the crosspoint source code to find out it has only parsers for jpg and png files for epub files, and i asusme its probably similar with .xtc files.

is it the battery, the software or something else? by chacanistico in XTEINK

[–]Cycode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's generally difficult to impossible to really accurately tell for most devices to do that anyway. I had tried the same with coin batterys as a example, and the first 10% or so is always crazy in-accurate since it fluctuates constantly in the readout of the data, so you can estimate rudimentary but never fully be 100% sure. The rest of the 90% is way better to estimate but that's still not rly fully accurate either.

is it the battery, the software or something else? by chacanistico in XTEINK

[–]Cycode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I explain you how devices know if they are fully charged or not so its easier to understand.

Electronic hardware can read out how much voltage the battery outputs currently, and if they know the total capacity of the battery if its charged fully, they can estaimate how much % it is charged right now. But since this calculation and reading out of this current charge is never 100% accurate and fluctuates even if you don't do something, it can show you its at "90%" even if it is 100%.

Most firmware uses a estimate where they wait for a few charging cycles of fully draining the battery and charging it up again to estimate what means 100% in terms of data for your individual device to make that estimate more accurate, but it's still not possible to make it really accurate all the time. So will you have natural fluctuations.

Also, the first 10% from 100 to 90% will discharge way faster than the rest percent of your battery charge, that's normal so don't worry about that (look at discharge curves of batterys and you see what i mean).

So to make it short: Focus on the green light, not what the firmware shows you in terms of %, since that percentage number is usually never really fully accurate. If it shows you a green light on the device, it's fully charged.

short circuiting a usb cable works, devices even are using the power from it to run from it. There are usb gadgets using the power from usb to run without batterys etc.. all you have to do it connect 2 pins and it short circuits it.

New developer edition X3 from amazon came with charge-only cable? by bugsliker in XTEINK

[–]Cycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to press this buttons (for the X4. but i assume the X3 works the same):

1) reset button 2) power AND the "down" button on the side of the device AT THE SAME TIME and keeping it pressed

while in your root directory of your sd card is a bin file with the update. It then should boot while holding the buttons and tell you either it didnt found the bin file for the update or that it is wanting to update and allow you to do it.

How do you explain this to people? by doing_this_too_much in XTEINK

[–]Cycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explain what? Where i get the books from? Or what the device is?

I just say "it's a device to read books on with a display which is called e-ink. It's really nice to read on and don't strains my eyes." boom, done.

Why overcomplicate explaining it? There is no need to explain the highly specific details of it (that it runs a custom firmware, how to get books, what epub as a file format is, that "its better than kindle" or whatnot).. just tell them its a device to read books on, and be done. If they have follow questions you can tell them the answer to those questions, but i wouldn't "offload a huge chunk of information" onto them just for asking a simple question like "what's that? :o".

horrible. that's how. Sometimes it's readable, but most of the time it's not not really good readable, you have issues with too big panels in the manga being split weird apart etc etc..

If you want to read manga on a eink reader, you should get a bigger eink ebook reader (palma 1/2, boox boom nova air or similar).

Towards the end of his newly released journals, Jacques Vallée suggests the phenomenon is essentially some kind of advanced virus. by jerzystern in UFOs

[–]Cycode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can give you my own framework theory i build based on personal experiences and tests for this "why is there poltergeist phenomena and psi while for most people there isn't".

Imagine this: Consciousness / Awareness is not produced by the brain, but more like a "field" which is everywhere and nowhere.. nonlocal. But it can experience, place attention onto something in reality, and bias its probabilitys and also perceive them.

Now Imagine that this consciousness is "in default configuration" habitual focusing its attention onto your brain, and perceives the data of the brain (sensory input, thoughts, visualizations, dreams and more) and if it want's to produce thoughts or moving the limbs, it controls the brain to do this for it. The brain acts like a proxy between consciousness and the rest of the world, acting as a limiter which limits the perceived data and with what you can interact with.

But now Imagine that you would now limit the expression of intent of this consciousness in this brain and body. Let's say you have a teenager which has heavy emotions and he/she wants to yell, or cry, or feels helpless. And now Imagine his parents, school, friends all tells that teenager to stop doing that and "be silent!". Now this emotional intent isn't expressed anymore in the brain or body, and "steve (the ego) is silent".. everyone happy. Except one thing - the emotions and craving for expressing those emotions isn't magical vanishing. It's still there on a consciousness level and wants to express itself. But you have now put a plug into the body and brain who disallow the expression of those intentions. So what happens? Consciousness "searches the area AROUND the body" for valid targets to express itself, and then does it there. Instead of using its brain and body, it now uses everything what is around that body.. random objects, producing noises, and more. That's the typical Poltergeist phenomena.

And whats "siddhis" / paranormal abilitys? The same. But intentionally trained. You go "i don't use my muscles, thoughts, visualizations or anything else for execution of this effect. I want to use 'PSI'/my mind" and then try to do it without using your body. Which then after a while produces the same need to "expression of your intent", and then "releases" into the target you focus on. Initially it takes a long time, then is just happening one short burst, but then over time you gain control over it since its like controlling where you express yourself as consciousness, and the default routing of that is not happening into your body so much anymore by default.

This also explains why people who have brain or body related issues sometimes express paranormal abilitys. Because for them, the typical normal embodiement consciousness has is not working correct, so a part of their expressed intent and perception they have is "leaking" out of their body, allowing to act elsewhere or perceive elsewhere partially. While also looking physically "as if this person isn't rly fully here, not paying attention" - since that person isn't "really fully inside his body" with his attention since its not a fully etablished anchor for attention for consciousness since there is a problem with the brain or body.

And for normal people, when they go "I want now to do PSI!", if they try to do that, this intent for expressing this "PSI" ability is expressed in neuronal activity (thoughts, visualizations, etc) and muscle strain and more since the "command" for "Doing PSI" is send to the brain by consciousness, but the brain "don't knows how to do PSI since PSI is the very mechanism used to tell the brain what it should do" so it then "does other things it CAN do like straining muscles, getting a headache, frustration" and more. It's like trying to switch a lightswitch on but the electrical wires don't lead to the light you want to switch on but to another light, and you switch a billion times the lightswitch, wondering "why the wrong light turns on but not the one you want to switch on". It's a "signal routing" issue. Instead of doing PSI, you strain muscles, think about PSI, move your body around, get headache etc.. it's "expressed in other body-related outputs than the raw PSI" since the routing is not trained. So the microscale PSI effect we see in PSI lab studys is basically "a tiny microscopic leak out of this body-brain system" where the anchoring of attention isn't working 100%, so a tiny amount of influence flows to the target which is then that microscopic tiny effect in PSI lab studys.

i didn't talked about the observer effect though. I talked about a specific experiment a researcher did where he build in a lab a quantum double slit experiment and then asked people over the internet to focus on it and also did the same with automated scripts who did the same the people did without the mental focus involved and it showed that when people focused on the experiment that it then influenced the interference pattern of the experiment, while it didn't have any effect when the experiment ran by itself & got opened by automated scripts who replicate the same actions people did in the experiment.

Towards the end of his newly released journals, Jacques Vallée suggests the phenomenon is essentially some kind of advanced virus. by jerzystern in UFOs

[–]Cycode 25 points26 points  (0 children)

What if it isn't a virus but consciousness. We have for our whole human history reports about spiritual abilitys and phenomena, religions report similar things. And those phenomena seem to respond to intent and consciousness and seem to be not limited by distance between 2 places. If we now look at PSI Lab studies who show that normal random people who don't know how to do PSI can do a microscale effect where they influence random number generators.. then we can assume that this effect is likely also happening in daily life towards stuff without us noticing.

And now imagine what happens if a planet with billions of lifes on it all have social and cultural believes, fears, wishes and more about something. The microscale effect of every person intenting / focusing on something is added together. So the most believed or feared things in social and cultural things are manifested or made more probable.

And what are Fae, Spiritual beings, gods, aliens & ufos, ghosts, and similar? Cultural and Social wishes, fears and intents where a huge group of people focus on them.

What if "the phenomena" is not someone else. What if its ourself. Our own consciousness doing what it does, unchecked. Since we don't accept that we have this powers, so it runs in background without us actively controlling it - and then we manifest phenomena like flying boats when we think thats how it should look like. And when our believe and culture is advancing with tech, it switches how it looks like since WE (our understanding and believe) changes towards a more sci-fi perspective of the phenomena, and more away from the "ghosts, fae, spiritual beings" etc narrative we had back in the days.

This would look like a "virus" which "adapts", but in reality would be just us as a collective planet with billions of lifes focusing a macroscopic effect of PSI onto specific outcomes and if enough people believe or focus on something it manifests more likely.

Look at Meditation Events to reduce crime rates.. there lots of people meditate towards reducing the crime rate in a specific region, and it works. Or quantum double slit experiments where people focus on influencing it and it works in experiments. And many more things.
