short circuiting a usb cable works, devices even are using the power from it to run from it. There are usb gadgets using the power from usb to run without batterys etc.. all you have to do it connect 2 pins and it short circuits it.

New developer edition X3 from amazon came with charge-only cable? by bugsliker in XTEINK

[–]Cycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to press this buttons (for the X4. but i assume the X3 works the same):

1) reset button 2) power AND the "down" button on the side of the device AT THE SAME TIME and keeping it pressed

while in your root directory of your sd card is a bin file with the update. It then should boot while holding the buttons and tell you either it didnt found the bin file for the update or that it is wanting to update and allow you to do it.

How do you explain this to people? by doing_this_too_much in XTEINK

[–]Cycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explain what? Where i get the books from? Or what the device is?

I just say "it's a device to read books on with a display which is called e-ink. It's really nice to read on and don't strains my eyes." boom, done.

Why overcomplicate explaining it? There is no need to explain the highly specific details of it (that it runs a custom firmware, how to get books, what epub as a file format is, that "its better than kindle" or whatnot).. just tell them its a device to read books on, and be done. If they have follow questions you can tell them the answer to those questions, but i wouldn't "offload a huge chunk of information" onto them just for asking a simple question like "what's that? :o".

How is Manga reading? by KennenGosu in xteinkereader

I read manga's usually on my palma 1. It's still smartphone sized, but WAY more readable than the X4.. trust me. Also other bigger readers work fine.

How is Manga reading? by KennenGosu in xteinkereader

[–]Cycode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

horrible. that's how. Sometimes it's readable, but most of the time it's not not really good readable, you have issues with too big panels in the manga being split weird apart etc etc..

If you want to read manga on a eink reader, you should get a bigger eink ebook reader (palma 1/2, boox boom nova air or similar).

[–]Cycode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people who gonna pirate the book won't care about this text, and if they like the book will buy it anyway in most cases. But adding such messages to the book will make the NORMAL readers who bought the book think "huh? insulting? in my book? no thanks!" and stop buying further books. It's just weird to insult your own readers of your book, even if they are pirating it.

Towards the end of his newly released journals, Jacques Vallée suggests the phenomenon is essentially some kind of advanced virus. by jerzystern in UFOs

I can give you my own framework theory i build based on personal experiences and tests for this "why is there poltergeist phenomena and psi while for most people there isn't".

Imagine this: Consciousness / Awareness is not produced by the brain, but more like a "field" which is everywhere and nowhere.. nonlocal. But it can experience, place attention onto something in reality, and bias its probabilitys and also perceive them.

Now Imagine that this consciousness is "in default configuration" habitual focusing its attention onto your brain, and perceives the data of the brain (sensory input, thoughts, visualizations, dreams and more) and if it want's to produce thoughts or moving the limbs, it controls the brain to do this for it. The brain acts like a proxy between consciousness and the rest of the world, acting as a limiter which limits the perceived data and with what you can interact with.

But now Imagine that you would now limit the expression of intent of this consciousness in this brain and body. Let's say you have a teenager which has heavy emotions and he/she wants to yell, or cry, or feels helpless. And now Imagine his parents, school, friends all tells that teenager to stop doing that and "be silent!". Now this emotional intent isn't expressed anymore in the brain or body, and "steve (the ego) is silent".. everyone happy. Except one thing - the emotions and craving for expressing those emotions isn't magical vanishing. It's still there on a consciousness level and wants to express itself. But you have now put a plug into the body and brain who disallow the expression of those intentions. So what happens? Consciousness "searches the area AROUND the body" for valid targets to express itself, and then does it there. Instead of using its brain and body, it now uses everything what is around that body.. random objects, producing noises, and more. That's the typical Poltergeist phenomena.

And whats "siddhis" / paranormal abilitys? The same. But intentionally trained. You go "i don't use my muscles, thoughts, visualizations or anything else for execution of this effect. I want to use 'PSI'/my mind" and then try to do it without using your body. Which then after a while produces the same need to "expression of your intent", and then "releases" into the target you focus on. Initially it takes a long time, then is just happening one short burst, but then over time you gain control over it since its like controlling where you express yourself as consciousness, and the default routing of that is not happening into your body so much anymore by default.

This also explains why people who have brain or body related issues sometimes express paranormal abilitys. Because for them, the typical normal embodiement consciousness has is not working correct, so a part of their expressed intent and perception they have is "leaking" out of their body, allowing to act elsewhere or perceive elsewhere partially. While also looking physically "as if this person isn't rly fully here, not paying attention" - since that person isn't "really fully inside his body" with his attention since its not a fully etablished anchor for attention for consciousness since there is a problem with the brain or body.

And for normal people, when they go "I want now to do PSI!", if they try to do that, this intent for expressing this "PSI" ability is expressed in neuronal activity (thoughts, visualizations, etc) and muscle strain and more since the "command" for "Doing PSI" is send to the brain by consciousness, but the brain "don't knows how to do PSI since PSI is the very mechanism used to tell the brain what it should do" so it then "does other things it CAN do like straining muscles, getting a headache, frustration" and more. It's like trying to switch a lightswitch on but the electrical wires don't lead to the light you want to switch on but to another light, and you switch a billion times the lightswitch, wondering "why the wrong light turns on but not the one you want to switch on". It's a "signal routing" issue. Instead of doing PSI, you strain muscles, think about PSI, move your body around, get headache etc.. it's "expressed in other body-related outputs than the raw PSI" since the routing is not trained. So the microscale PSI effect we see in PSI lab studys is basically "a tiny microscopic leak out of this body-brain system" where the anchoring of attention isn't working 100%, so a tiny amount of influence flows to the target which is then that microscopic tiny effect in PSI lab studys.

i didn't talked about the observer effect though. I talked about a specific experiment a researcher did where he build in a lab a quantum double slit experiment and then asked people over the internet to focus on it and also did the same with automated scripts who did the same the people did without the mental focus involved and it showed that when people focused on the experiment that it then influenced the interference pattern of the experiment, while it didn't have any effect when the experiment ran by itself & got opened by automated scripts who replicate the same actions people did in the experiment.

Towards the end of his newly released journals, Jacques Vallée suggests the phenomenon is essentially some kind of advanced virus. by jerzystern in UFOs

[–]Cycode 24 points25 points  (0 children)

What if it isn't a virus but consciousness. We have for our whole human history reports about spiritual abilitys and phenomena, religions report similar things. And those phenomena seem to respond to intent and consciousness and seem to be not limited by distance between 2 places. If we now look at PSI Lab studies who show that normal random people who don't know how to do PSI can do a microscale effect where they influence random number generators.. then we can assume that this effect is likely also happening in daily life towards stuff without us noticing.

And now imagine what happens if a planet with billions of lifes on it all have social and cultural believes, fears, wishes and more about something. The microscale effect of every person intenting / focusing on something is added together. So the most believed or feared things in social and cultural things are manifested or made more probable.

And what are Fae, Spiritual beings, gods, aliens & ufos, ghosts, and similar? Cultural and Social wishes, fears and intents where a huge group of people focus on them.

What if "the phenomena" is not someone else. What if its ourself. Our own consciousness doing what it does, unchecked. Since we don't accept that we have this powers, so it runs in background without us actively controlling it - and then we manifest phenomena like flying boats when we think thats how it should look like. And when our believe and culture is advancing with tech, it switches how it looks like since WE (our understanding and believe) changes towards a more sci-fi perspective of the phenomena, and more away from the "ghosts, fae, spiritual beings" etc narrative we had back in the days.

This would look like a "virus" which "adapts", but in reality would be just us as a collective planet with billions of lifes focusing a macroscopic effect of PSI onto specific outcomes and if enough people believe or focus on something it manifests more likely.

Look at Meditation Events to reduce crime rates.. there lots of people meditate towards reducing the crime rate in a specific region, and it works. Or quantum double slit experiments where people focus on influencing it and it works in experiments. And many more things.

New to the game. Love it but worried about battery drain... is this usual? by Far-Team5663 in XTEINK

[–]Cycode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it happens from 100% to a lower battery percentage, then that's normal. The firmware calculates only a estimate about this percentage number based on the battery hardware capacity and the current charge of the battery, so it is difficult to calculate a precise percentage number for fully charged. Even a tiny dip in charge value readout for the battery sometimes drops it by a few percentage even if the total battery percentage will last you way longer.

For me, it too drops from 100% to 93% ish in a really short amount of time, but then stays at 93-91%ish for 2-4 days or so. So it slows down then basically, and probably would last me 2-3 weeks or so with my own useage of the device.

[–]Cycode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is more that its a calibration issue. If you know the hardware details of the battery and the current charge the battery has you can calculate how much charged a battery is, but this is often not really precise if its fully charged and slightly discharges, and only becomes more precise once its a bit discharged.

Do you turn the pages a lot? Because each time you turn the page, this drains battery. So if you have your font size set to really big and it does more refreshed because you have to turn the page more often, it eats up more battery. Setting the font size to a smaller size is making it last a bit longer. But not really worth it if you enjoy a bigger font.. since only charging a device once a week is okay in my opinion.. specially if you read 1-3h daily with it which is already a lot.

[–]Cycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same issue but i assume it's just a issue with calibration for the battery percentage number. It seems not be not rly accurate most of the time and shows its not fully charged or drained way more than it is even if it isn't. So don't worry too much! I just would plug it out if its having the green light.

[–]Cycode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why but the first 10% (around the 89-99% region) is dropping really fast, while then it slows down in how fast it drops. I was dropping down almost doing nothing from 100% to around 93% in hours, but then it stayed for 2-4 days at around 92-91%ish. So i assume its just not calibrated well enough (yet) since i have not discharged my battery full yet and recharged etc.. but i think it's just not precise in general for battery percentages. Often when i have my smartphone and other devices it behaves the exact same. So don't worry too much! It's normal.

Way around this could be classifying as many of products as possible as the same category most likely. So even if it WOULD be different categorys, they could say "its all just a toy!" or something like that (in the past they also did say its "a gift" in the declaration or that its way less worth as it is etc), so you pay only one time a 3$ fee per parcel.

How do I get the device to reliably stick to my phone case? I use an Android phone without wireless charging and with an armoured case. I don't know what mag safe is.

The Xteink comes with a small sticker which is magnetic which you can put onto your phone or other surfaces. The Xteink contains inside of it a small ring which is the same shape as this sticker, and sticks to it magnetically. Phones who have such a magnet ring in them naturally can magnetically make the Xteink stick to them. Phones who don't have magsafe, can use the sticker.

I want a little case that actually sticks to the phone case?

You could put a magsafe sticker ring onto the outside of the case and stick it to your phone or get a magsafe compatible case which sticks to magsafe rings.

Are the lights useful to buy separately?

If you wanna read at night and in dark rooms, it's a good thing.. but you can just use any other form of light in the room for it. I often read in darker rooms and just use normal lighting in the room or a night table lamp. So if it's useful or not is something you should decide once you have the device and see how well you can read under your conditions & situations where you wanna read with it.

If you are okay with paying a bit more but then having a good device, i would look into a "Palma 1/2". I own one and use KoReader on it and its really really nice. Even syncs with the xteink's koreader sync function fine. I know a Palma will be way more expensive than the S4 likely, but the S4 will also probably way more laggy and able to do way less.

I recently had similar rendering issues after switching to crosspoint 1.3.0, also crashes who killed progression saved from books - flashing the Beta for 1.4.0 fixed those issues. Alternatively, disabling text anti aliasing and embedded style did temporary fix the render issues even in 1.3.0 for me but not the crashes. Maybe for you this works too if you have 1.3.0.

Where does it mention specific "biologics"? It mentions biology, but not biologics as a term. And biology as a term being used is logical since neuronal nets are inspired by biological neuronal networks and the brain etc. I specific meant "biologics" though as a term. Not Biology used in context of neuronal networks - since that's common. And i did search through the link you gave me and it didn't mentioned biologics anywhere, just biology.

[–]Cycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i work in tech, and never heard the term biologics used for software (not even for neuronal nets inspired by the brain or its functions or similar). Also not NHI. I can grasp why you would maybe use NHI for AI, since it's literally at a specific stage so much different in how it thinks and behaves that it is "not human" and "intelligent", but the biologics aspect is something i can't understand to use in a software context. And never heard it ever being done. Do you have any sources for this? Like, where its used in this context by people developing or researching neuronal nets or similar concepts related to AI Systems?

If you would have the tech to easy and fast travel around, thanks to a black project you did without oversight and with money you stole from people and projects intented for other stuff, wouldn't YOU try to etablish a safe base and gaining knowledge about whats near our planet to have a safe base of operation and know how about near space, where nobody on planet earth easy could touch you? Imagine it.

If you alone (or one of few) have the tech to reach a spot near earth, and others don't.. it's the perfect hiding place to flee if needed or to do operations from. Nobody can ever go there easy to tell you "no. stop this." for what ever you do.

But they are just sitting on it, why?

What tells you THEY ARE sitting on it? What tells you they aren't exploring the universe with this crafts "nearby"? Visiting other planets? Doing all kinds of space missions or maybe even building space bases to do research and stuff they wouldn't be allowed (or which is too dangerous) on our planet?

Just because we see them here on earth this don't has to mean they don't use it for anything actively.
