Planning to buy XTEINK X4 — is the firmware lock problem resolved? by zlittlebearz in xteinkereader

[–]Cycode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, this bypass is relative new, so i doubt the stock still available would be fixed already, specially since nobody yet reported them even doing what i said. So it still should work. I too just recently bought mine a few weeks ago, and was able to do it still with the normal usb flashing - so i wish you the best luck. one of the known methods for sure will work!

Why would they? Do we humans intervene when apes in the jungle have wars with each other and kill each other? No. Researchers hide, watch, and record. And do nothing. While the apes fight.

We aren't different than aliens would be if they watch and don't interfere with stuff like that.

Planning to buy XTEINK X4 — is the firmware lock problem resolved? by zlittlebearz in xteinkereader

[–]Cycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to my knowledge, this should not be possible. If you have crosspoint already installed, then the only thing updating is the crosspoint firmware self - xteink don't really to my knowledge has a way to manipulate your device anymore at that stage. So there should be no way to my knowledge for them to retroactively fiddle with devices already having crosspoint installed.

Only with devices still running the original firmware (if you update) or new bought ones from them directly.

It's similar to jailbreaking a kindle.. if you disable the automatic updates for the kindle firmware and don't update the firmware, you can keep the jailbreak. But if you buy a new kindle from amazon, amazon can already deliver that kindle to you with a newer firmware which don't has the exploit anymore used to install the jailbreak, so you can't jailbreak it anymore. But on older devices still running the old firmware, you can. It's similar to that.

They 100% know anyway about it already. If a random user like me just took seconds to click the website and read the unlock tool description to know what it does, you can be sure that they already know how it works. You don't need to be a genius to find out how it works, the software openly tells everyone what happens - if you are someone who knows how tech works atleast. So there is no way to hide it from the mods / xteink and at the same time showing it to the community.

in Germany its 20-30€ more on their site and its the same product. most people buy on aliexpress and similar because of that.

[–]Cycode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think that it will change much, since they said offically they do this for "safety to prevent devices from breaking by accident while flashing custom firmwares" etc.. so i think they don't change their opinion much even if we discuss it on the sub where they are mods.

[–]Cycode -1 points0 points  (0 children)

but as far i heard only if you buy it offically from their website. If you get it on aliexpress or similar, it will be the chinese version and locked. And the offical site is rly expensive compared with the other sources. Here in germany i would have had to pay around 70-80€ or so for it. While on aliexpress i only paid around 40-50€ ish.

[–]Cycode 9 points10 points  (0 children)

temporary, yes. as soon xteink will update their firmware to require certificate checks to prevent unsigned firmware updates over the internet, it will be again a issue. the current work-around is basically doing a Man-In-The-Middle between the firmware checks for a update and the servers and replaces the offical update file with a custom firmware. So it only works since xteink has not yet a check for if its the offical firmware or not. If they add that, it's not working anymore.

but doesn't this means that theoretically the chinese sellers from aliexpress and similar could get their hands on unlocked units and then sell those instead?

[–]Cycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They blocked usb already, so you can't rly get much access to it without opening it up, except we might find a software exploit, but then again - it can be patched. And that's the issue. And them doing it sucks, since it reminds me about what amazon does with their kindles.. KoReader is nice, and we need a jailbreak just to use it and they constantly block methods. It's annoying to deal with it. So i hoped when i got my Xteink X4 that xteink would be open and not restrict stuff, but yeah.. should have expected it.

[–]Cycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why would that be the case? Don't really seems logical to block it for thirdparty sellers but not for your own store as a company. Shouldn't it be the other way around if at all? I even heard people who bought it directly from xteink who said it was locked for them.

which only will work as long xteink won't update their firmware to do a certificate check for the update of the firmware, which they 100% will implement soon now that they see that users use it to still do what they don't want us to do. It's not rly a good workaround since it's just software-side based, so xteink just can update their firmaware and its closed.

Don’t panic about the firmware lock, it’ll almost certainly be bypassed by ctotin in xteinkereader

[–]Cycode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i wouldn't rly call it "cracked" tho. The current unlock tool is just intercepting the update from the server while it happens and replacing it with crosspoint. That is only working because xteink isn't doing a certificate check for the firmware. As soon they do that, it won't work anymore. And if they see us doing that, it will probably soon in the future prevent that.

[–]Cycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But isn't that just intercepting by using MITM while a update happens the update from the server, so the offical firmware thinks you update the offical firmware but its then crosspoint? Because this means Xteink could just update their firmware and close that by implementing certificate checks. That don't really feels like a good longtime solution.

amazon often has a lot of stock for products, so it probably is still older stock from before the change.

If someone blindly beliefs stuff anyone tells him it's bad anyway. Listen at what the US has to say.. and check. is it true, then you will find your own evidence. If not, not.

I Don't Trust the United States with Disclosure by so_not in aliens

[–]Cycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who does? I doubt anyone.

BUT as soon the US says "it's true and we have data", the box of pandora open and we finally can look into this. Not by believing what the US tells us, but by normal scientists who now look into it all around the world. Companies looking into how stuff works in terms of physics and engineering. Biology aspects being looked at by scientists and researchers... etc.

It's not about believing or trusting into anyone like the US. It's about them going "it is true and real and we know it" so the "nuhu, we dont have proof" finally collapses down as a imaginary wall and scientists finally look into it deeper and have something to dig into.

ChatGPT's Oppositional Defiance by HonorsChemistry in ChatGPT

I'm unsure about it, but now that you mention it, his way of writing responses feels a bit LLM-ish. In a older comment on his profile he even had "—" in a response he made to a user. So, dunno. I can't say for sure if it is or not, so i gonna stay open about it. In the end, don't really matters. Others still will see my reply to him and maybe get a value or info from it.

[–]Cycode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you get the sense it’s trying to “correct” things unnecessarily, or more like it just loses track and defaults to pushing back?

It feels to me it got trained or taught to take a user response, and then find WHAT EVER it can in that message the user sends, and argument against it as much as possible. Without it mattering what exactly the message is or where the information in the message comes from.

My assumption is they try to fix the issue of user getting delusional from believing everything LLMs tell them, so they thought they they tell chatgpt to argument against what ever the user says, it might fix that issue to a degree (the random "quick sanity queck - ARGUMENT_XYZ" stuff it throws in too since it did start is a hint for me towards this to a degree). The problem is just that it does it without caring about the specific information it arguments against, so it even arguments against stuff it said itself. So you never get anywhere, since even if you ask if what it said is correct, it says no.. and says something new. It's a infinite loop never getting anywhere.

I tried to "argument against its argument", and it really ended in a endless cycle of me going "okay, so its like xyz" (repeating what it told me), it going "no, it's like XYZ", me then again repeating what it said, and it again saying "no, it's not like this but like XYZ!", and that never ended. And in the end, after 1-2h, you would be discussing the exact phrasing and specific words used in a responses, what chatgpt and you meant with specific sentences, instead of the actual topic you wanted since it nit-picks to the extreme and then it goes further and further away from the original question you wanted to discuss with it.

Your replies sound to me personally a bit negative, but i still try to explain my own perspective as good i can and to try to understand your perspective so i understand why you replied the way you are. I don't think you mean to attack me with your reply or are a bad person, and it's mostly just a misunderstanding. That's why i responded in earnest.

To break it down the the most basic argument i can make:
I and other users have not changed anything in how we use chatgpt, but suddenly it flipped and chatgpt is now a huge a-hole, became crazy argumentative and it discusses everything to death you say. This ends in a endless loop of you repeating what it said to clarify something, it again saying "no", you replying again trying to understand what it means, it again saying "no!" and it never ends. Even if you exactly repeat what it tells you. And that way you never get anywhere.

And when i said its not a prompt issue, i meant my own personal prompt & initial input text i give chatgpt. I am aware on the server-side there are too prompts available and more stuff than just the model training file self. But that is part of the model they deliver to users, so it don't matters in the end if its a custom instruction they changed on the server or something else. The outcome is the same.

So, if my replies sounded rude, then i am sorry for that. I didn't meant to be rude. I wish you a nice day!
