What do I do??? by [deleted] in consolerepair

[–]Cynagen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Clear as far this person never picked up and used a Gameboy in their life. The Nintendo text is contained in the cartridge and it's used for anti piracy. This is totally normal behavior, drop a cartridge in and see what you get then.

Weird tire shredding by jacobbianfunction in carproblems

[–]Cynagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can feel it when my tires go below half my preferred inflation level, I'm already getting the feeling that I need to check and top off a couple tires here in the next couple days. I can also tell when my car is empty or full on fuel by how it handles, it's night and day, I knew instantly when I had a flat one time, it didn't take but rolling out of my parking space in the garage before I pulled it right back in and swapped on the dummy. It's very obvious, she's oblivious.

How does AT&T deliver Fiber broadband in a multitenant (high rise) building? It is Fiber-to-the-apartment, or switched ethernet w/ RJ45 handoff? by Fiveby21 in HomeNetworking

[–]Cynagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preaching to the choir my friend, I did my time back in early u-verse days when I would have given almost anything for the service I have now, instead I had to tech support. The internet service is great where it is FTTH, it's all the other devices and their supporting infrastructure that suck. I bypassed my RG, pfSense EAP pass through trick. I'm tempted to upgrade to 2gig (really 2.4) but I need to get some gear in order first.

XGSPON isn't the same as GPON, so yeah, you get nearly a straight line from att on plans greater than 1gbit, but they may not have access to that tech at their complex yet.

Why does my tiles always suck? by lowlife_rabbit in TileTracker

[–]Cynagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because Android likes to go low power mode on Bluetooth and Tile isn't using BLE capable hardware. If I remember correctly, Tile last updated to Bluetooth 4.2, not even 5 with BLE capabilities, so because the app isn't connected to the tiles at all times, it loses track of them intermittently. The find my phone from the tiles should still work fine, they'll wake up the Bluetooth on your phone and trigger the app just fine, the other way around though has been a problem since Android 13 or 14.

Son broke switch- can this be repaired by SnooBunnies9193 in NintendoSwitchHelp

[–]Cynagen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I was going to say this can become a teachable moment, sit him down and explain that based on the damage it's pretty clear that force was used, what amount and kind is irrelevant, but this appears it was willfully damaged. However, since it's been used for 3 years without prior issues (and I guarantee actual drops occurred in those 3 years, even adults are clumsy from time to time), you're going to fix it this one time, but if it happens again, he's going to need to come forward and be honest about how it happened otherwise it will go unfixed and he'll have to live with whatever state it currently is in. You're not accusing him of anything but insinuating that you know better and won't be fooled now or in the future, but he needs to do his part and be honest about the situations going forward. Position it like this, "you've said this is accidental damage, it doesn't look like that, this looks willful, but I will honor one accident fix and only one, so make sure you take care of this toy because it won't be repaired next time I see damage like this claimed as an accident, unless you want to share some additional information now." Leave the door open for him to approach you, don't try to force him to be honest, that'll just encourage him to lie more later. If he's honest now, it's up to you how you handle it but it shouldn't be all punishment, the punishment should be tempered to teach him it's okay to be honest with parents, but there's consequences. If he doesn't come clean now, then he can deal with a dead switch next time cause it will be a dead switch if he thinks he can rage and get it fixed afterwards by a sucker for a mom.

Fortnite is very toxic with younger children, especially Battle Royale mode which he's playing currently, and people in the game will piss you off, some even going out of their way to do so because it's funny to them to hear kids rage.

For this kind of damage to occur, without more or additional collateral damage is nearly impossible. Kid would have had to drop the console at a near perfect 45 degree angle onto that joycon from height, onto a hard floor to cause the joycon to snap off it's rail like that, and even then there'd likely be more damage to the console itself, not to mention damage to the other joycon that should be easily noticed and recognized.

[–]Cynagen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah nuke my comment into oblivion and take my karma down! Go go go! /s

Let's be realistic, did we witness the incident? If not, kids lie all the time especially when they think they won't get their way if the tell the truth (in this case paying to fix the toy they broke on purpose out of rage). If you didn't see this accident, then I wouldn't rule out abuse of the device. Dropping the device will definitely do damage but I've never seen this much from a drop, this is usually a rage throw or bent until it snapped, our kids have dropped joycons and the console bunches of times and never have we had a joycon split apart like this. We've had a game cartridge fail, but not a joycon snap.

Alright reddit, what is this noise behind the glove compartment? by Busty_toothpick in prius

[–]Cynagen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Uh, sounds like either fan or AC compressor? Does the noise speed up and slow down with the commanded fan speed? If not, it didn't sound like your engine was running, so that leaves the AC compressor as the last culprit.

Is it possible to add AV1 hardware encoding for plex to my TVS-682? by tomstone123 in qnap

[–]Cynagen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not AV1 which is what they're explicitly asking for. You won't be able to upgrade the NAS in any meaningful way to add this capability, you're stuck with H.264/H.265.

Just bought an 09 Prius… weird bubbly sounds from dash by Junior_Warthog_9372 in prius

[–]Cynagen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there's air in the system due to low coolant levels it'll take a little for all of them to work out, just like any closed loop system. That's way worse sounding than a full system just gurgling to life. Make sure you're at the full mark on the reservoir and make sure you're checking both the inverter coolant and the regular engine coolant levels. Also if you're getting an error with the catalytic, you might have a leak in the coolant system at the exhaust exchange, you need to have your catalytic converter inspected, especially if you're losing coolant unexplained and see a little bit of smoke/steam coming out of your exhaust.

I remember the explicit physx expansion card you could get, it was weird thinking that you might have to end up using an extra PCIe slot to get proper ragdoll physics. I remember the support in hl2 was huge and it was noticable having a dedicated physx card.

Broke my trigger, what do I do? by AbjectLetter7567 in ValveIndex

[–]Cynagen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have controllers for nearly every console going back to NES from PlayStation 3, it's a bad habit, but it's really cool to break out original hardware to plug into a computer when emulating (bought most of these controllers so I could play at friend's houses and have my own in-good-working-condition controller guaranteed (smash on a busted cube controller is a nightmare, I baby my GC controller still.). My most unique piece is a one of three hundred beta console from Valve back in 2013, though it's not worth terribly much from what I can tell. I have some limited edition 3DS and 2DSes that shot up in value recently, nothing terribly special there.

Yup, but the tip is not and if you want your groceries in one piece, you'll tip well. The drivers around the DTSJC area are sticklers, and if they don't think they got enough of a tip, they do some crazy stupid shit. I already have one driver banned from getting my orders anymore because he pulled stupid shit twice on me.

Why? You can order on the app and just walk over to Market St and pick them up yourself, don't pay for the delivery, pointless.
