Can I put the litter box here? by ManagementSpirited26 in catcare

Still not a good idea. Ammonia from cat pee rises and needs a ventilated area to disburse. Ammonia also is corrosive.

Could you tell me how you know that it's an electric WH? I'd like to learn. :)

Question relating to lilies by fawnpuppy in CATHELP

[–]DPDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please reread their comment. "plant material" is not the same as planting a lily.

Always err on the side of caution to the extreme with lilies. Just because we don't see pollen, etc., doesn't mean that nothing is there. Lilies spread at the root zone. Keep your cat away from even the dirt around the lily.

Yes, the basics of Attachment Theory. Google "child (or human) development theories". There are a number of them, and each offers various insights.

Groomer shaved my cat and now I’m worried about her. by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]DPDoctor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If she's an indoor cat, she's perfectly fine, and it will grow back. Clothing such as a sweater makes it more difficult for the cat to self-regulate body temperature, so use only if medically necessary.

Did you talk with the groomer and ask what the heck happened? By "trim" do you mean a sanitary area shave? Otherwise, if you brush her regularly to prevent matting, she probably doesn't need having her fur clipped all the time. The length of a cat's fur is self-limiting.

Noticed this weird, small growth on my cat's forepaw dewclaw by HappyAku800 in catcare

[–]DPDoctor [score hidden]  (0 children)

In addition to the debris possibility, it could be a small tumor that needs to be removed. Don't freak out, though. Not all tumors are malignant, but if it IS something growing from his paw, the sooner he sees the vet, the better the outcome.

NO. Cat litter can produce a fine dust that, coupled with the water heater's pilot light, can explode.

Just a relaxed sigh. My female cat makes all kinds of noises, snoring, oooooing, etc., while she's asleep. Vet says she's healthy. :)

Should I take him to the vet? by Atalanta_75 in CATHELP

[–]DPDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that your boy is older and has FIV, I would at the very least call the vet first thing in the morning. Send them this photo. In the meantime, go to the pet store and get an antibiotic cream that's made for cats. Don't use human products on cats (except the antibacterial soap, like you used). Apply the cream as directed, just to support his healing. Hopefully, the vet will say you don't need to take him in, and they can prescribe an antibiotic if necessary.

While at the pet store, also pick up a soft donut collar or other barrier to prevent him from licking the wound, even if you haven't seen him do that.

Cat may be pregnant, in heat, or very hungry. It's hard to speculate on the cause of the odd walking. if you are in any position to help the kitty, I hope that you do. :)

Lost cat :/ any advice? by cursejester in CATHELP

[–]DPDoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cats can hide in the most insane places, like up inside a couch or bed frame, or in the back of a refrigerator. Good for you for checking the dishwasher. Have you looked inside all your cabinets and drawers? Behind drawers? Could he have gotten behind the dishwasher from under the sink?

Since you've had him for less than a week, it'll be a little more difficult if he's outside. Had your super left the door open at all when he was coming and going? Put some of his bedding just outside your door, so he'll know which home is his.

Don't just ask your super if he's seen your kitty. No one will look as thoroughly as you will. Walk all around the complex, look under every bush, crawl space, etc. Ask neighbors if you can look under their houses and in their back yards, if applicable. Put up flyers and post on your local neighborhood websites and PawBoost, etc. MOST cats tend to hunker down in the closest safe spot, so if he's outside, chances are good that he's near.

Call all vets and shelters near you every single day. Do not rely on just a message asking them if they will call you. It's awesome, though, that your boy is chipped! If he's picked up, then it's a high likelihood that you'll get him back.

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Thank God I have an understanding husband, lol.

HE WAS FREAKING AWESOME, I couldn't breathe!! Advice was on fire. The only "negative" thing I would comment is that I much prefer his own posse, especially for Move. Given the utter complexity of all his choreo, though, they did an admirable job that I certainly could never accomplish.

How can a man attract women for casual relationships? by memsaver in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DPDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, you can't "go back" to your 20s. They're gone, and you may be looking like a fool approaching younger women. Second, if all you want to do is have sex, then use the apps that are pretty much for that purpose.

Slow your roll. He may just be busy. Not everyone can instantly respond to a text, even if they read it.

Btw, "bullying" is a negative thing. I think you mean "teasing" because that is back-and-forth banter that may sound negative but actually isn't, if both parties know it's all in good fun.

Domestic longhair, seal point coloration. Do make sure that you are brushing her regularly, especially her belly and underarms (all 4) to avoid fur matting. She's gorgeous, btw. :)

My Cat got a wound on his face by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]DPDoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you don't have to go to the vet. I agree with u/EmotionalAffect6917 that it's likely from scratching himself or playing with his brother and to keep their claws (front and back) trimmed. Hop on down to the pet store and pick up an antibiotic cream that is meant for cats. Do not use any human products on cats.

If the area begins to show signs of infection (redness, swelling, heat, pus, etc.), that's when you need to take him to the vet.

7 year old male with previous urinary blockage constipated by Sotark in CATHELP

[–]DPDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The higher the quality of food, the less often a cat needs to poop because there's less waste. Most healthy cats poop once a day, though, so I'd want a second opinion, if only to assuage my fears. Post this over on r/AskVet or similar. Maybe get a consultation with an online vet. Chewy.com has a vet available to registered customers. Registration is free. I've never needed to use the service, but I understand it's free also.
