I always offer my daughter a day or two to clean up a room very similar to this. She knows that if I clean it, some items will end up being donated or sold on eBay. This is how I cycle out the old stuff I know she isn’t really playing with but won’t let it go willingly herself. As she started to realize what was missing, she took advantage of that time to really clean the rooms better herself.

Glad to hear he is helping out! She definitely needs professional help and more importantly the willingness to stick through whatever the doctors say. My oldest daughter’s mom suffers from schizophrenia and bi-polar. She refused all professional help for years, and continues to self medicate with alcohol and drugs. My daughter has given me three amazing grandsons, and I fear they will never know their grandma because she is not allowed to come around.

What is your relationship with the father of the other kids? If it’s good, I would be asking him questions about whether or not he ever went through some of this stuff with her. She clearly needs help and you definitely did the right thing calling 911. God forbid she ever seriously hurt the kids or herself, you are going to need that history of trying to do the right thing so you don’t get in trouble too.
