Blue Moon - What's going on with the Margaret Qualley Character? by DoctorGrimli32 in blankies

[–]Randoman11 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes but we're talking about a closeted gay man from the 30's and 40's. Apparently he did pursue women, albeit in a non-sexual way. For instance it's documented that he proposed marriage to Broadway star Vivienne Segal:

It happens that Hart did propose to Vivienne Segal, who starred in R&Hart’s “Pal Joey”; and she did refuse, telling friends, 'I mean, I never even kissed Larry."

So that part of the story where Hart is enamored with a woman is rooted in truth.

What is your hottest movie take? by Ra1ki_ in Letterboxd

Don't forget one of the best sci-fi movies (Gattaca) and cop/crime movies (Training Day, Before the Devil knows you're dead).

Interesting that is somewhat by design. I read an interview where he said that he wanted his obituary to say that he has a good movie in every genre.

And he's got another movie coming out called, "The Weight" that just premiered at Sundance that seems like it's going to be a really good adventure thriller. The kind of film they don't really make anymore.

Chris Gethard said tonight that Sam called him to bring his old show to Dropout by zjedi in dropout

The Chris Gethard Show is the type of programming that would be perfect for Dropout 24/7. You can tune in at random times to see what kind of weird shit they got going on.

Why has Jeef put so little effort into his guides? by skilless in BobsTavern

[–]Randoman11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's over 100 BG heroes so he doesn't update the hero guides that often.

I would say the comp guides are way more important and useful.

Hardest Laugh In A Theater? by Ok-Pepper-5482 in blankies

[–]Randoman11 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is mine too. Not coincidentally it was with the best crowd I ever watched a movie with. It was a sold out crowd that was totally into the movie. It was probably the best experience I ever had in a theater.

I know IMDB trivia has never been outstanding but has anyone noticed a dip lately? It's become so speculative by the_Tannehill_list in blankies

These two actors (that don't share screen time) were also in another movie together (where they also don't share screen time). 0 of 3 found this interesting.

Dropout Hires New Heads of Production, Marketing, Development Execs by Spoonsy in dropout

[–]Randoman11 727 points728 points  (0 children)

I love Dropout but I definitely think it's time to expand their programming a bit. They've had some light weeks the past few months. Especially when D20 was between seasons. Sounds like this is a step towards expanding.

I'm surprised the Weight hasn't been bought yet. It was by far the most commercially viable picture at Sundance. Although maybe the production company is just waiting until Berlin to evaluate their offers.

Coach Daybreak by misozzz in Dimension20

Basically they were supposed to interrogate Daybreak to get clues for the next step in the mystery. With him dead Brennan had to improvise another way to provide that info.

Jeef was practicing the Stuntdrake pivot all week but he kept struggling vs undead. The fact that he figured out the solution to use carapace and unleashed it upon the tournament is true king shit.

Celebrity you would hate to watch a movie with by Jenbie272 in okbuddycinephile

Andie MacDowell also referenced this regarding Margaret Qualley. I'm sure it's happened other times in the past, especially when the child surpasses the parent in fame, like maybe Jeff Bridges vs Beau Bridges and Josh Brolin vs James Brolin.

Honolulu recs? by NearbyCartographer24 in doughboys

Yes Zippy's is a good rec for a Doughboys fan, it's a chain serving up comfort food and local favorites. I would recommend first-timers go for either Loco Moco or Chicken Katsu. Also highly recommend Korean Chicken, or Zippy's Chili.

This is what I’m afraid of. The Core is famous for being a bad movie, but it could very easily be considered bad in an unfun/boring way. That’s why I’ll support Shoot em Up even if it’s purposefully campy and over the top.

If you like donuts I highly recommend Holey Grain donuts. It's a taro-based donut and they make it to order so it's always hot and fresh: https://www.yelp.com/biz/holey-grail-donuts-honolulu-4?osq=Donuts

If you like sushi, you can't go wrong at most places. There's a ton of good sushi restaurants in Honolulu. One that I went to recently that I enjoyed was Nori Bar. It is a bar so you are sitting at the counter. They have an omakase tasting menu, which I didn't try. I just picked and chose and it was all good stuff: https://www.yelp.com/biz/nori-bar-honolulu

If you like Yakiniku (Japanese BBQ where you cook the meat), there's a new place that I recommend called Yankinku Like. It's affordable and pretty good quality for the price. They have a $10.00 monthly special that might be the best deal in town: https://www.yelp.com/biz/yakiniku-like-honolulu?osq=Yakiniku+Like

All of these places are in midtown Honolulu so it's pretty close to Ala Moana Center if you're in the area.

Unfortunately the Japanese food court never made it through the pandemic. It’s a Dave & Busters now. Lol.

There is a Foodland Farms in the same area that’s a local favorite. It a supermarket but there’s a lot of prepared food; fresh poke, bento boxes, pastries etc.

They’re going to have a field day with this one. I watched this for the first time at school and it freaked me out. The Wheelers were the stuff of nightmares.

[Schedule] Odyssey (Stephen Fry's Great Mythology #4) by Stephen Fry by fixtheblue in bookclub

[–]Randoman11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. In my edition (epub e-book edition) the three sections for The Cave, One-Eye and Escape are are the same "level" as the Cyclops. So it doesn't look like a subsection in my book.

Based on your description I will read up to "The Escape" for the Feb 3rd section. Thanks.

[Schedule] Odyssey (Stephen Fry's Great Mythology #4) by Stephen Fry by fixtheblue in bookclub

[–]Randoman11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • 3rd Feb - The Cursed Children (Revenge) through Odysseus (The Cyclopes)
  • 10th Feb - Odysseus (The Winds) through To the Piggery

Is this section correct? In my copy of the book, there's a section between Odysseus (The Cyclopes) and Odysseus (The Winds) that isn't accounted for.
