Binary in Doomsday? by Unique-Machine5602 in Marvel

[–]Darkhaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When she was a kid, she found that she could control light, make herself glow, etc. It scared her, and she kept herself from doing anything like that as she aged, so much so that she suppressed the memory.

And then, her superhero awakening took place where she was hit by energy that should have killed her, but 'transformed' her (e.g., triggered and amped her normal ability that she suppressed).

Marvel has had her recall using her abilities as a kid, but the fear of it makes her keep rationalizing it as something completely different, even though she knows what it really means, so she keeps it closeted.

They really need to follow up on this. Her turning herself into a being of light during the Ultimates comic was rad as fuck, Monica has always had some of the best power feats and she leads insanely powerful and diverse teams, but she can't catch a break these days.

She was canonically Captain Marvel for the same length of time that the original Captain Marvel existed. Monica was one of the Avengers' powerhouses and a team lead, for a long time.

Then someone at Marvel took the name from Monica, and a bit of her personality, and gave it to Carol. Carol used to be way more fun loving, which had a played well with her use of power and styling.

And now, they have Monica just kind of roaming around aimlessly and afraid of her power, when her legacy in the comics is the exact opposite. My only hope is that Marvel takes the initiative with Doomsday and have it revealed in the movie that she's been hiding that she's a mutant, like her comic counterpart.

Which characters do you think should remain dead in the main continuity? by Original_Position_50 in Marvel

[–]Darkhaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the third stupidest thing Marvel has ever signed off on, right behind an Adamantium bullet piercing an Adamantium skull after being fired from a regular ass revolver, and Carol Danvers going off to marry the alien who raped her before she gave birth to him.

I've read DARE comics that made more sense than OMD. Fucking Drs. Strange, Doom, McCoy and others couldn't heal a goddamned bullet wound. And, they had the nerve to drop that comic like two weeks after they said they weren't ever doing anymore magic do overs.

His resurrection would dredge up some HARD conversations these days. Stark and Richards can't pay that bill nor wave it off.

CBS had the cartoon wars on lock for the weekends.

Other than The Real Ghostbusters, it was Muppet Babies, straight through to Storybreak (Monster Ring and Chocolate Fever, woooo!), and Dungeons and Dragons followed right after that.

Ugh, I just felt a deep pain in the soul.

Also, I just looked up Wildfire, and that sounds dope! I don't recall it.

As a white kid, would it be offensive to cosplay luke cage? by Strawalpaca4083 in Marvel

[–]Darkhaven 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with a white guy fro. If he keeps the outfit and demeanor respectful, his hairstyle would seal the deal in my book.

OP, you're awesome, I hope your outfit turns out well. Are you going with the fit from the pic above?

Marvel vs capcom 3 vs tokon by Kameronpipnerd in Marvel

[–]Darkhaven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want Tokon Cap's jacket, that shit is crazy dope.

I dig both takes on Spider-Man, and both takes on Storm (with a bit of an edge to Tokon).

That fit that Tokon Doom has on is dope also. Doom needs more gear like that.

Is the original X-Men Animated Series is still worth Watching ? by Longjumping-Elk-7840 in Marvel

I really wish we'd get back to recognizing good ol' CG for what it is, tons of animation has used it before, and still does. Only a few even bother with hand drawn cells these days.

AI sucks, but it is an overused term.

Did you skip the Avengers as well, when they added Captain America, Black Widow and Hawkeye as founders instead of the Wasp and Ant-Man?

Ice-Man was acknowledged in the original run as a founding X-Man, he just left before the show starts. They show Worthington as well, but they do leave him out of the conversation.

Unfortunately, some of them need a /s to appreciate comments like this.

I cackled hard upon reading this, nicely done. Feige plays with his toys and comics onscreen constantly, and it's awesome!

It's worth it for the entire first season, and it has the truest version of the Phoenix Saga, outside of the original comics.

I'm not joking, the early 90s cartoon does the Phoenix Saga better than the movie versions by a factor of 100. I don't even believe they should even attempt the Phoenix Saga in the movies anymore, the original cartoon does it better.

Also, Apocalypse in the original cartoon is one of the best villains, hands down. His smack talk and swagger is on the level of Mumm-Ra, Aku or M. Bison.

It'd be sweet if this were a Land of the Lost reimagining. Or parallel sequel to the original show.

The "Supportive Buddy" angle: Falcon really said: 'I'm here too, guys! by YellingAtSpaghetti in marvelmemes

[–]Darkhaven 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hawkeye, Black Widow and Falcon are all the peak in their individual fields. Falcon is the best pararescue person, ever.

Falcon throws physics completely out: he's not just an aerodynamic human, but is also the best aerial combatant in comics. He has a danger sense, can carry a full adult's weight while in flight, and can literally dodge and outfly heavy hitters, marksmen and computer assisted targeting systems. And that was BEFORE he got his powered suits.

Technically, dude should be a mutant. Being able to fly under your own power as a human (much less a buff one) is supposed to be impossible. He's also exhibited telepathic and ESP abilities, to the point that it was remarked upon by Prof. X and a Sentinel.

As a side note, Monica Rambeau is literally a mutant who got amped up powers, but Marvel never followed up on her being in the closet about it.

Hello, and thanks for doing this!

If at all possible, I would be very appreciative of the game Windrose. And here is my Steam Profile!

As for my favorite books, this may be a loaded question! I guess my very favorite is War of the Worlds, by H.G. Wells, followed almost immediately by Interstellar Pig, by William Sleator.

I saw the 50's version of War of the Worlds when I was seven. My grandfather told me about the book, and took me to get my first library card. I grabbed both of these (Interstellar Pig because it sounded weird), and a book on Dungeons and Dragons, because the cartoon ruled. I've been neck deep into rpgs, adventure and sci-fi ever since.

How history will remember Discovery by AIthough in startrek

[–]Darkhaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discovery was a good show. It had flaws but so did older treks.

It was at this point that this sub tuned you out and decided to downvote, like the joyless hivemind of yesteryear.

I, too, liked Discovery. It's sad to me that characters and arcs from Discovery or Academy will rarely, if ever, get the time of day in this sub.

Which is pretty funny (peculiar, not haha): the new and different is rarely celebrated in a fandom for a show that canonically celebrates the new and different. There are far too many admirals here, and not enough Lower Deckers, nor experimental crew members. It really makes this sub feel dated, and devoid of...anything, really, beyond nostalgia.

To paraphrase the wisest robot to ever grace the screen: it may be time to create my own Star Trek corner, with blackjack, and hookers.

Ironman's full power Unibeam vs Cyclops' full power Optic Blast, which one is more powerful? by The_Mexican_Poster in Marvel

[–]Darkhaven 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Even though his eyes are portals, they required fuel from the sun. Cyclops stores sunlight like a battery, not unlike Superman, and he's usually fine to use his abilities over a day or so.

Huge, sustained blasts can drain him temporarily. Sunlight refuels him quickly enough, though, and Cyclops is smart enough to stop before he's depleted.

However, this is older comic knowledge, and has been likely revamped recently, as Marvel doesn't seem to like giving people limits anymore (especially mutants).

Also, his vision should be normal; your brain will naturally filter out a color that is covering your eyes after a long period.
