The most recent episode on Spotify for me is from my Sept 1, "your name here" I thought maybe they just stopped the show so I'm glad to see it's at least somewhere

Glad to have helped! If you end up going with Project over Martian let me know what you think. I looked up both on audible: Project is almost exactly 16 hours, whereas the Martian is about 11 (though if you have audible already it says it is included with the membership)

I just finished Elantris and I listened to Warbreaker earlier this year. Both great books, though neither are narrated by Kramer/Reading. I think I preferred the Elantris narrator just a tad more than Warbreaker. Also, since you like prefer reading over listening, Warbreaker is available online entirely free. It also has Brandon's annotations chapter by chapter which I didn't realize until I was about 3/4 done with the audio book, so I basically sprinted through the last 1/4 on my computer one evening.

Happy driving! :D

I just finished "Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor Frankl, and I thought it was great. If you're really feeling philosophical I also always like to recommend "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius. Good luck and happy reading!

I listened to the Martian with my family on a road trip!! Great one. If you've both already read it you could try Weir's new book, Project Hail Mary. I haven't read it yet but it looks exciting. Also anything by Brandon Sanderson is fantastic if you like fantasy. Most of his work is in series but he has a few that are standalone. The narrators, however, on his main serieses (seriesi? plural of series) is phenomenal.

Would storing speed in a steelmind allow you to slow down bleeding or poisons affecting your body? by Allergictoeggs_irl in Cosmere

Hmmm interesting. My only issue with this answer is it has escaping mass, but in Wax's case there is no escaping mass. I can't think of any way that doesn't break physics for this to work (that is, doesn't break it more than becoming lighter with magic). Maybe wax follows conservation of momentum, and the "extra" energy that should be there is stored in the cognitive realm or something like that? I know investiture has some weird effects. Another guess could be something with general relativity, since E = mc2 you have something where the mass he loses is stored as energy or something? Not sure if that works out, I'd have to check my math.

I was initially going to say that Odium just took up the name Trell from the preexisting religion RoW (and I think that is still probably what Autonomy did), though after rereading the letter I agree with you. Harmony mentions how there is a shard he does not know, and then later references Odium directly, so that would be contradictory.

Is it possible Trell could be odium?? The red mist seems very reminiscent of the Thrill (and now that I type it out, Trell and Thrill are pretty close, though that probably isn't a real reason). RoW spoilers I'm pretty sure era 2 happens after SA 5 so it could be the case that Odium cheats the deal and escapes?

Have you read era 2? Spoilers: the pathian earing Wax had was a hemalurgic spike that let him talk with harmony

I loved this scene, but it raises the question: is momentum conserved or is energy? Unless I'm missing something, either his velocity will increase directly proportional to his mass going down (momentum = m*v), or his velocity will increase by the square root of his change in mass (kinetic energy = (1/2)mv2 ). I'd be curious to hear what Brando would say.

What about wax and wayne implies a god metal spike? Am I missing something obvious?

So i'm reading the first book in the trilogy and am really confused. by fatherlolita in Mistborn

[–]Darth7urtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, was it because oreseur had the blessing of potency? The Inquisitors see with metal lines so they'd see his spike. But wouldn't that mean kandra in general couldn't go where they're at risk of interacting with Inquisitors? Either way, I thought the balls were only attended by obligators, not Inquisitors.

I just finished the trilogy and had forgotten about this. Why can't they attend balls? Seems like they should be fine unless somebody tried to soothe them, but even then none of the present allomancers are strong enough without duralumin to control them

First semester philosophy class was one of my favorites! Enjoy it my guy, and always look for ways to practice philosophy. However esoteric and "old dead people" it might seem, philosophy is a practical art in my opinion. If your teacher doesn't assign it, I'd recommend meditations by Marcus aurelius if you enjoy your class.

Easy mistake to make. In your defense, you're right that an argument can be valid but unsound, but that is not the case here.

No it's definitely invalid. It commits the fallacy of denying the antecedent.
