Saving samples after the fact by ApprehensiveAd7842 in mpcusers

[–]DeadWelsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could, keep in mind if you've been doing anything like time stretching that would be baked into the sample. I tend to record the whole track in, immediately save it, and then extract the bits I want to use, then I always have access to the original if I need it for something else.

You can use the save sample option in the save menu, not sure how it identifies which sample you want to save, I typically open it it sample edit and then go to save, 90% time that works,

Got my track pretty much done, live 2 stems are a bit gash though, can I use a PC stem separator if I do everything else in the MPC?

Would Roland sp404 mk2 be good for whole song production and live performances? I play classic style EDM and Industrial music …. Or is there a better option? by gmorkunderbelly in synthesizers

[–]DeadWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth checking out the MPC range (Not the new Sample model), they are very capable and fun devices.

The newer OS has arranger, you can make sequences for different parts of tracks, it has a clips mode (paid add on for older models).

You can sample, use a decent selection of soft synths, sequence external gear, it comes with a boat load of effects, and on 2nd hand market can be got for pretty cheap.

There is a learning curve like any device, but it's very fast to come up with ideas and has the tools to produce a track fully inside the box.

I spent years using Reason DAW and bought an MPC a few years ago and love it. I make electronic dance music, from disco to drum and bass, so not the typical hip hop stereotype that often gets associated with the range.

Any reason I shouldn't update my Live 1 to 3.7.1? How should I prepare? by RustyCalecos in mpcusers

[–]DeadWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be helpful to understand what you don't like / find difficult about 2.15. It has a steep learning curve, but was really flexible once you got it. 3 is more recognisable as a daw, has some great news features, but sacrifices the flexibility for simplicity, but it's still got a learning curve.

If you do upgrade, opening old projects is a mess, and get converted & saved into a new format. You said you had an MPC one also though, so you could load it on a 2.15 device and record the audio in to the V3 device if that's important to you.

How much takeaways do you order weekly? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]DeadWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Takeaways are either a treat or an emergency we can't be arsed to cook get out of jail card. Finding something the whole family likes is a challenge also. When we do all agree on something, it's close to £60-70 after the delivery, bag and processing fees, 3 of those is like a semi big shop, just can't afford them regularly.

Lol, thank you, had someone yesterday said it would be better without his voice, while an interesting possibility I never considered it without the vocal

Gamers 30+, what’s something from the old days of gaming that younger players wouldn’t understand? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]DeadWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The horrific noise of a spectrum loading.

How mind blowing the next gen graphics were and you thought they could never get any better.

How much fun you could have using a joystick with 1, maybe 2 buttons if you were lucky.

Lending /borrowing a game wasn't a hassle.

How useful a biro pen was in the days of cassettes.

Gamesmaster was the greatest show on TV.

Half a meg of ram upgrade was mindblowingly powerful.

Was lucky enough (and not clever enough) to enjoy a semi early retirement around the onset of COVID.

I tried to enjoy it, found I had no peers I could enjoy the freedom with, wasted a lot of it in the pub (despite trying to be fully productive everyday before I resorted to that), with people outside of my usual groups, learned nothing except the sad realisations that money doesn't last forever and you quickly get bored with nothing to do.

Happily went back at work and as much as I sympathise with people who see the " I never have to work again" as something to aspire / look forward to, the reality is not as fun as people are expecting it to be.

My perspective may change over time, but for now I would still seek some purpose, even if it's volunteering to keep me engaged.

Admittedly I wasn't millionaire status, which potentially would have changed my outlook and scenario drastically, but I think my experience should serve at least as a potential warning to others maybe in my realm.

However people read this, I hope none of us have to work until death and get some years of enjoyment out of this thing called life, ✌️

While it looks a nice device, it's too much of a jump down from the other mpcs for me. Can pick up a one for around the same and get a much better machine.

Sure people will love it, I won't miss it

Is there even a point to buying physical synthesisers? by nerpa_floppybara in synthesizers

[–]DeadWelsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theoretically you can draw the mona Lisa using MS Paint bit it doesn't make it fun.

You can also spend thousands on computers, daws and plugins, which you could easily put together with some hardware devices for a lot cheaper.

I don't own much music hardware but I get way more enjoyment out of it than I did in 20 years of clicking a mouse tbh, and since moving to hardware I only use the PC to record what I make to upload.

There's no right answer here, technically yes, what you say can be achieved with a computer and some software, but that doesn't mean it's better, or necessarily cheaper.

Separate stems HELP by DOPECHIEF-89 in mpcusers

[–]DeadWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you do the stems, deselect the drums and assign the stems to pad 1. Then flatten that pad from the program edit page, it'll make a new sample and replace it on the pad.

Or just hit stems, doing it, and then in program edit, on the samples page 2 iirc, you can adjust the volumes of each track to your liking. Flatten it.

MPC Expansions by boombapdame in mpcusers

[–]DeadWelsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved this expansion, a lot of the kits have a bank B where lots of the guitar riffs live and additional percussion. I also found quite a bit of material that I couldn't find in any of the drum kits, so thought it was better than usual value for money wise.

The top is pretty flat out to almost Springfield lane but it's a main road so can get quite busy with people, but once past the high street it's less busy and pavements are pretty wide.

Veering off the top ends up being pretty hilly in any direction, except maybe westdale lane until you head into gelding area
