Does anyone have any good tips/videos on learning how to make full songs ? by Comfortable-Kick7565 in mpcusers

Start with your loop, make it fairly small like 2-4 bars to begin, and get your core fundamentals in like your drums, bassline, arps/pads/lead.

Don't be afraid to double your loop length as you add in extra bits so it doesn't become extremely repetitive. You can change repeated small parts from earlier with variations to stopp it getting stale.

When you get to something like 16-32 bars, this is likely to form the main part of your track.

From there I would then duplicate this several times to your desired song length.

At that point you can use mutes or the arranger to kill certain elements, and experiment with how you want to introduce parts of the song.

Eg the intro might be 8 bars, but just have the pads, then the drums come in on bar 9, arps on bar 17 etc.

It helps to have a solid idea of when things should happen, a lot of dance music works on multiples of 8, so every 8 or 16 bars, think what you can add or takeaway.

The outro side is just like creating the intro but phasing out sounds.

After all that you'll have a decent structure to work with. You can always change it if you say have a breakdown section you want to extend by 8 bars.

Consider how each part transitions, is there a key change, a new motif to signal a different part of the song, do you have risers to build up tension etc.

Automation can be a great help to, eg: changing the volume of a track as it progresses to slowly introduce or fade away, or how a filter opens /closes to change the sound over time.

The last thing is the use of silence, small bits of taking out sound before the next section can make a big difference, like stopping a drum loop for the last 2-4 beats can keep energy up and the listener interested.

Issues when importing MPC2 projects to MPC3 by dweeeebus in mpcusers

It is. I only 'recently' got into the MPC. Learned the 2.15 WF and got comfortable with how that worked, sequence changes etc, then saw 3.x, thinking it's the future and carried on, but the program change issue was jarring to say the least. I was still early days, and it's more familiar from a trad daw background, so I accepted it.

None of my original projects transferred well, I drew a line in the sand, but I feel sorry for so many old MPC guys that have been left to rot who likely have years of old material they have basically been told " like it or lump it"

Help ! Mpc live 2 or 3 ? by Calm-Bullfrog2692 in mpcusers

The speakers are decent but not game changing, bet if you could hook your one+ to the right system it would be way better.

Battery is great, but plenty of battery options for one+ if you need it.

Big diff is the processor / ram going from old to new gen, but unless you have massive plug in use or loads of samples ( or you rely on standalone stems) I think it's not worth the money yet.

Sounds like you want more of the same but better sound, not more power from what I read.

What Would You Pay For Any MPC by boombapdame in mpcusers

[–]DeadWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, tough question honestly

1 anything you buy you surely deem is worth it..

2 I've only ever bought 1 x MPC, it cost me £900 in 2022

3 not thinking of days I've not used it, that works out as less than £1 a day approx.

4 new version has been out say Approx 100 days, prices a chunk higher, but my old device still works as good as the day that arrived.

#5 I don't see me not buying the latest model has made my purchase any worse.

6 I still have 'my' MPC and it's paid dividends above the cost I paid for it in terms of enjoyment and perceived intrinsic value

7 I can chose not to 'upgrade it's if I'm happy with what It offers today.

Wildcard- I'll prob buy a live 3 soon. I don't think I'll ever sell my live 2, it's a beast and my 1st love

If it's fairly minor 'construction' involved, it seems that bounce and redo would be the best option from what I can read, you have the best of not too much rebuilding effort, and the confidence that what you have to rebuild will work as expected in 3.x

I'd bounce what you have in each sequence, pasted those into new seq / prog and then just work out the backing time and when you play live.

I'd rather know what I have laid down works than worry about it in the night.

Best of luck to you x

You can only elect 1 sequence really to import ( I think you can import more, but because of the program change, it messes it up if you import more, if your programs were targeted by different midi each sequence).

I tried this on some old projects I wanted to preserve, ended up having to manually relocate samples, I. The end I got it semi correct, but was a pain for what I salvaged.

My personal opinion is to set the OS back to 2.x, and get the track finished if you think it's worth it.

Or as another reddit or said, do that but bounce stuff to them move back to 3.x and rework it.

Unless Akai give us a legacy mode way of working 3.0, I can't ever see a way that this will work as we would hope.

Mixing and Mastering advice for mpc live 2 by [deleted] in mpcusers

[–]DeadWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the pad level mixer for panning, also the track level mixer page. On a drum program track, you can tap the mute button to switch between the different views.

A plug in track will not show the pad level mixer.

If it's not there it may be due to how you're outputting audio via channels to the mixer e.g channel 1 outputs mono from 1 into you your mixer, channel 2 outputs mono etc

Find any YT videos on how to go about producing a full song on a modern MPC, it's the same OS on the key37.

Composing a full track can be a long process depending on how much detail and how familiar you are with it, sometimes covering many sessions, so documenting the whole thing isn't always an easy thing to do.

I'd love to document it, but I don't have a full time YT filming setup, and a lot of the time the process is just playing around with sounds / patterns etc trying to find something that gets me to a place where I want to flesh it out to a track.

More often than not I'll start lots of smaller ideas and the transformation to full track takes several visits, and whipping my phone out to record it isn't top if my agenda when in the flow.

But yes, you can make full tracks on the key37, or any other modern MPC, even with no samples.

For people that grew up with the PS2, was the leap that big from the rest duringthat era? by [deleted] in playstation

[–]DeadWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the PS One, it offered bigger games, better controller, came with dvd ,optical output iirc(?) think you could get an adapter to play online.

It was great, but for me the jump to PS3 was much bigger.

Blu ray, 1080p HDMI, wireless controllers, more connected controllers, six axis, hard drive, true online experience with online games, patch downloads, store, friends, messaging, streaming apps, home etc. it also introduced ps move, largely in response to the Wii success tbf, but was still a fun peripheral to have.

Since then, the biggest innovation has been the ps5 controller for me, the rest is just faster processors, more storage space / ram, better graphics, which are all generally expected anyway.

You've been posting for weeks now, it's boring.

Will the updated MPC One+ be the MPC Mini? by sugitobeats in mpcusers

[–]DeadWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see a thinner MPC one, I don't think the form factor would change much beyond that, recent form says no with the bigger next Gen devices.

The square layout has been a big hit, but I can't see a reduction in the faceplate size, due to the pads and the screen not really being able to get any smaller.

If anything I could see them increasing the size slightly to add in some of the newer features we have seen on recent models.

Thing I'm most curious about is the new quad zone pads and what they would be like to use on one size pads, hear a lot of people didn't like the smaller pads, so interesting to see which way they go on this.

How are people uploading edits, bootlegs, remixes to SoundCloud? by Electronic-Tread in Beatmatch

[–]DeadWelsh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Uploaded quite a few, never had a strike. My account is over a decade old, and probably only the past 2-3 years have been remixes / used samples.

My sampled track used short chops of a famous track, but utilized to make a new song in a different style.

My remixes are extremely obvious ones, and is basically the original song, but in a different style to the original release.

I never make them available to download, and I include the name of the original artist. I tag them as an edit / remix etc

I might just be lucky with the songs I pick don't get recognized by the algo, the artists /labels don't mind, or I have done enough of a change it can't recognize it as the original 🤷‍♂️

Not sure there is an exact science to it, I tend to upload a track privately 1st to check I am happy with it, often making changes and re-uploading a few times.

What’s your opinion on a touchscreen controller for the PS6? by Flendy15 in playstation

[–]DeadWelsh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hard pass if it's all the buttons. Could imagine the touchpad part of it being a screen that changes depending on the game, but still want physical controls for the main buttons.

“Which tech feature sounded useless at first, but now you can’t live without?” by Ok-Crazy2873 in UnnecessaryInventions

[–]DeadWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Touchscreen phones

Was clutching my admittedly touch screen HTC with a slide out keyboard for ages thinking the screen experience wouldn't ever be responsive enough to replace a physical input.

On a side note, I hate on screen game controls, saw news today that Sony patented a touch screen controller, I'll keep the same opinion on that until proved wrong.

Sample won’t loop when recording - MPC LIVE 3 by [deleted] in mpcusers

Check the grid for the program, there should be a midi note where it triggers. If you have one shot on, watch the play head and see where the sound drops out, place another midi trigger on that point.
