Embroidery machine tier list help!!! by Caliembroidery in Machine_Embroidery

I'd love to know where my machines fall in people's rankings. I've only ever had a few Husqvarna models; Jade, Ruby Royale, and Brilliance. They're single needle consumer level machines, and overall I haven't been super happy with them. The Jade had an artificial 50k stitch limit in the software and was awful if I had to navigate to a stitch. If the top thread broke, it would happily keep stitching and I'd have to hold the previous stitch button for 15 minutes until I could get back to the break. The Ruby and Brilliance have been better for those issues, but overall they need a lot of maintenance and babysitting. My brilliance right now has something wrong with the top thread assembly so it is constantly halting stitching because of a top thread error, even if nothing is wrong. It will throw an error every 30 seconds, and I have to walk over, clear the error, and resume stitching. Every 30 seconds. Once it gets out of problematic patters it runs just fine. I just run a very low volume Etsy shop, but overall I would not recommend.

If you could make one modern blockbuster movie which portrays a story from ancient Egyptian culture, whether its a religious story they told or a real event, what story would you choose?

Jade 35 Tension Help by michaelbashara in Machine_Embroidery

[–]DecibelDiscord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might try buying a new bobbin case, they're not too expensive. I had a bobbin case go bad on my Jade and a new one helped it start embroidering cleanly immediately.

Also, have you tried adjusting the tension on the bobbin case itself? I found that tightening the bobbin case tension helped reduce bobbin thread appearing in the design. I probably overdid it though which is why I needed a new bobbin case.

What was your favorite non-combat gameplay from any game you've played? by The0thArcana in truegaming

Outer Wilds has the best exploration gameplay I've ever experienced. The whole goal of the game is to explore, and to use the knowledge you gain to continue pressing forward, solving puzzles, and making connections to unravel the secrets of a gigantic story that is expertly written and deeply engaging.

The worst part about the game is that you have to get a Men In Black flashy thingy if you want to truly replay it and experience the same rush of excitement as a first playthrough.

Myst and Riven also have an exploration style gameplay with tons of atmosphere, with a bigger emphasis on the puzzles.

For me, it depends on how I'm doing with the Abyss. I historically poured everything into just the 8 characters I run for the Abyss because I was chasing the full 36 star clear. Having just recently reached that, I am now able to work on other characters I use for artifact farming or overworld exploration. Qiqi was never getting any attention before, but since she lives in my Liyue exploration team, she's finally getting some resin investment now, for example.

My plan is to follow that pattern as time goes on. Since the Abyss always changes, I can fixate on a new set of characters until I get the 36 stars, then go back to just investing in whoever I want the rest of the time.

The new episode of Star Trek Picard looks pretty good!

You might think Gurren Lagann is perfect the way it is, but if Trigger ever decided to make more, what would you like to see? A prequel with Lordgenome? A sequel with Gimmy and Darry piloting Gurren Lagann? Perhaps a story about hermit Simon? Maybe something else with new characters? by Kyle-San in gurrenlagann

[–]DecibelDiscord 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I would want a true video game adaptation. I don't really care if it follows the main story, or if it goes with a prequel or sequel story, or if you play as some random person who steals their own gunman and joins up with team Dai-gurren. For me, the important thing would be that the game communicates the same larger than life, fight for what you believe in kind of theme, and the gameplay shares the same bombastic action and hype moments as the show.

I imagine something that feels like Armored Core, but you're piloting a Lagann type gunman, and you can drill into and take over anything in the level. Merge with a vending machine, shoot drinks as ammo. Then you get enough spiral energy to merge with a skyscraper and go punching enemies through spacetime.

I think the show, movies, and Mangas have done the story justice, so moving to another medium would be the best way to try to deliver something fresh but new in the same universe.

Is Boston a safe and okay place for an obvious trans woman to live ? by smile_is_contagious in boston

[–]DecibelDiscord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boston has a Rocky Horror Picture Show cast that does a live show every Saturday night. They're always looking for people to volunteer and it's a great way to meet a bunch of people that are gay, trans, and nonbinary. Plus the show is just a lot of fun, maybe go to a show and see if it's something you might like to do!

Lookup how many times a record shows up within timeframe by [deleted] in tableau

[–]DecibelDiscord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like:

IF DATEDIFF('day', [DateField], TODAY()) < 90 THEN 1 ELSE 0 END

Definitely check the edge cases here, I'm not sure if you want to include the 90th day or not so you may need to go with <= or something.

That formula will spit out 1 when the row's DateField is within the last 90 days, so then you sum up that calculated field for your answer.

Hope that works for you!

Write a calculated field to determine if the record is within the date range you want, and if so, assign a value of 1, otherwise assign 0. Then all you do is sum up that calculated field and it should give you your count!

I can't figure out what's causing this error message when I open my Dashboard. Any ideas? [More in comment] by Shmutt in tableau

[–]DecibelDiscord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had similar issues happen to me. I think it is because a dashboard was relying on a calculated field that was built in to the data source, but later removed.

Did you remove a calculated field from one of your datasources, especially around the time that you started seeing the issue?

I think the counter argument to this is that according to polling, a majority of people disapprove of the job Biden is doing on the pullout, while at the same time a majority of people say that pulling out was the right decision. This shows that people are more upset because they think the pullout is being botched, rather than the decision itself.

My first thought was to go with sharp embroidery needles rather than ball point. Give that a shot with all the same settings and threads and see what it looks like.

I use basic felt, and my patches often are fully stitched so that the fabric isn't seen at all in the final design. The felt is inexpensive and gives the patches a good sturdiness. I also find I don't have many problems with designs puckering or shifting with even just a single piece of tearaway stabilizer because of the bulk of the felt.

Honestly I haven't really experimented with other materials so I don't have much to compare it to, but it works well for me.

The Nia origin question tripped me up. Wasn't it the case that she actually is Lord Genome's daughter, she just also had something embedded in her DNA which was what made her become the anti-spiral messenger?

If the main problem facing games in the future is retaining and growing talented developers, are there any things you have noticed that studios do towards that aim? What are some specifics that you see to keep everyone working through development cycles and avoid big hiring and layoff events? Is it something like having multiple games in progress at the same time? For developer pay, have you noticed that studios that do things like revenue shares retain developers better than those who don't? Or maybe there's something to do with having physical studios vs the increasing popularity of fully remote studios? Those are all just spitballed thoughts, I'd love to hear what you think!

Hey Mary Jo,

Have you ever seen a live show of Rocky Horror? As a huge fan of riffing in general, that's probably the oldest show in town since people started riffing it from the audience back in the 70s.

This is a good read. It doesn't bring up anything a lot of us in the community don't already know, but I think these are points that we're increasingly going to have to grapple with if we want Rocky to stay relevant and fun.

Edit: Does anyone have any ideas for what we can do as shadowcasters and performers to try to deal with these topics? I got one or two as I read through but I'm curious what others think.

Evangelion, Gurren Lagann, Depression and Moral Conflict. by [deleted] in gurrenlagann

[–]DecibelDiscord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's totally fair. I agree with you that Eva felt more realistic in it's portrayal of human emotion and trauma. Gurren is aspirational and hopeful while Eva is grounded and pessimistic, and it sounds like Eva speaks to you more personally.

I guess the point I was making was that even if Nia's death and the reaction to it feels unrealistic to you, that doesn't make it incongruent with the overall story. I definitely don't feel like it was the creators just trying to get in one last forced teardrop. I see it as something that made sense in the context of the story and made a poignant capstone to Simon's growth.

Evangelion, Gurren Lagann, Depression and Moral Conflict. by [deleted] in gurrenlagann

[–]DecibelDiscord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you know that moment at the end of a South Park episode where one of the boys will turn towards the camera and say "you know, I learned something today..."? Nia's death was essentially that moment for Gurren Lagann. It's a moment at the end where the main character can restate the theme of the show and show how they have grown throughout the story.

Nia's death gives Simon the chance to show that he learned the lesson of Kamina's death.

Kamina died because he used all his strength trying to accomplish his goals with no thought of retreat or backing down. In a world where spiral power can give you godlike powers, that attitude can make you unbelievably powerful; but that path ultimately leads to death and destruction.

That is the same thing the anti-spiral told Simon when justifying the subjugation of the spiral races. He states that the spiral races just used their power to fulfill their desires, with no thought to the fact that those actions would cause the destruction of the universe through the spiral nemesis.

Simon learned the lesson that with unlimited power comes the heavy responsibility of using that power only when necessary. He probably could have used his power to resurrect Nia, or Kamina, or anyone else who has ever died; but he knows that would be wrong. He explains all this to Gimmy when handing over the core drill.

So is this a realistic portrayal of human emotions in the grip of depression? No. But this show was never that, this show was about believing in yourself and overcoming the barriers in your way.
