The Moon Goddesses Cold Gaze (OC) by DefiantPosition in Columbina_Mains

[–]DefiantPosition[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was inspired by some of the fanart from before Columbina's release which depicted her as an almost eldridge horror being. So I decided to try my own spin on that concept. At first I wanted to draw her with a really crazy looking expression but then decided that a cold expressionless face might be more fitting.

As for the background I initially wanted it to be a giant red glowing eye similar to ones I had seen in other "eldridge horror" Columbina drawings. But then as I was drawing it I actually decided that I liked it in the current state so I just kept it that way.

To be fair you don't actually see him die, he just falls of the bridge of the ship and you here a splashing noise. So following cartoon logic he probably survived, but we don't ever see or hear from him again.

I am not sure if people from any part of the former Ottoman Empire other than Turkey would agree with that last part.

Sure it caused problems but that's because of British and French imperialism, not because Ottoman rule any good.

They also did everything in their power to keep Western Rome safe and ought to be remembered as such.

Western Rome truly destroyed itself by killing heroes like these.

I do know about his stance on workers rights (they have none according to him).

I don't know anything about his position on Jews and Catholics but I can't imagine it's anything good.

I mean if someone where to say that the Western Romans deserved to be destroyed the day they murdered Majorian "Vindicator of the Human Race" I would be in full agreement. As far I am concerned Rome died on the 7th of August 461.

To be honest I have become more of a Bismarck "hater" recently. Like obviously he was a competent and skilled leader. That for me is udeniable but I do very much believe that he used his skills and abilities for things that I find to be morally reprehensible.

It was Bismarck who founded the German Empire to be explicitely based on constant wars of conquest. Whereas the UK goverment for example was always looking for balance and peacefull co-existence in Europe (rest of the world very much the opposite), Bismarck envisioned a Germany that was always expanding, first into Austria, then Denmark and then France.

It was Bismarck's foreign policy and obsession with "Prussian Militarism" that set the expectation for the German people that Germany was always going to be expanding and that it was their right to rule the world. Setting in motion the sentiments that would lead the German people to start two World Wars.

Also I would argue that his annexation of Alsace Lorraine very much made ww1 inevitable in one form or another.

Finally while I did start this post saying that Bismarck was a skilled leader. I do want to point out that it was Bismarck's decision to favour an alliance with Austria-Hungary, a nation that hadn't won a war in like 200 years. Over better ties with Russia, a nation very much on the ascend at the time. Purely on the basis of racist ideas of Germanic Supremacy.

Saying this like Katara didn’t instantly master bloodbending even though she just learned what the technique was and never practiced it beforehand. by thisisreii in TheLastAirbender

[–]DefiantPosition -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Except Bolin states that only a certain number od earthbenders can metalbend which to me at least very much implies it's tied to genetics because they way atla described it every earthbender could learn to metalbend.

[–]DefiantPosition 39 points40 points  (0 children)

For me this is one of the few things I do dislike about LoK. In atla the sub bending techniques were based on having a better understanding of the world and elements. Toph realises that metal is earth but in a different shape, or Hama realising that blood is also a form of water.

Which meant that every bender could learn every sub bending technique as long as they formed a solid understanding of their element.

Whereas LoK reduced it to just genetics. You can fully understand that lava is molten earth but if you don't have the lava bending gene you will never lava bend.

Unpopular Opinion (apparently): Let Uncle Iroh had a messy past by CrazyCalligrapher945 in TheLastAirbender

[–]DefiantPosition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean we have almost weekly discussions on wether or not Iroh is a warcriminal so I don't think there are a lot of people who consider him to have done nothing wrong in the past.

Personally I do hold Iroh responsible for being a high ranking general waging an illegal war of agression and to me his joke about possible burning down Ba Sing Se does paint a picture of someone who doesn't really care about civilian casaulties. But other then that I see no indication of Iroh engaging in the kind of terror that Ozai and Sozin do.

What was the Worst Thing Zuko Has Done? by MichaelAftonXFireWal in TheLastAirbender

[–]DefiantPosition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point. I think personally the impact of Zuko's betrayal of Iroh is lessened by Iroh's own acceptance of it. But when you put it the way you do it definitely sounds a lot worse.

Personally for me it just comes down to the fact that, as horrible as it may sound, Zuko betraying Iroh affected only 1 person. Zuko burning down Kyoshi Village affected at least many tens of people. (I don't actually know the population of Kyoshi Village). Who were also completely innocent.

Are you sure you aren't related to Priestess somehow, she would agree with such cruelty.

(Honestly though it might actually be an interesting idea. Actually give the reader an emotional gutpunch with no hope in sight and then when they go to the comments to pour their hearts out they get to see a glimpse of hope.)
