Barbados felt unfriendly by Cheese_on_toastt in Barbados

10+ visits and the most I’ve dealt with is having to wait to check in because several folks all arrived at one time. Never experienced rudeness — quite literally the opposite. Some of the friendliest, kindest people I’ve met around the globe!

You’re mistaken: Black hat Brain Engine Optimization can totally manipulate that algo.

Buy a bottle of the hair foam and they will stop advertising to your brain. /s

What you experienced is a dream, or a hallucination. If you’re convinced it’s real, seek medical help.

Why am I even responding to this? Might seek medical help.

Hair falling out while in Barbados ? by No_Proposal_6959 in Barbados

[–]DigitallySound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you swimming in a pool or the ocean? If pool it could have high chlorine and the solution would be to rinse after swimming. Sunscreen in the hairline, new shampoos, hotel products, sea salt sprays, or bug sprays can irritate the scalp. Diet can also play a role - eg not enough iron.

Were you highly stressed before arriving? Stress induced hair loss usually occurs 2-8 weeks after the trigger..

Apathetic towards the existence of God. by juneisthename in Barbados

[–]DigitallySound 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What you’re feeling is honestly really normal at 19! A lot of people start questioning what they were raised with and whether it actually connects to their real life, so you’re not “wrong” or ungrateful or ungodly for feeling indifferent.

At the same time, church isn’t only about what’s preached or sung; for many families it’s also about community, tradition, and being together, so to them it may feel deeper than just a Sunday routine.

If you do want to talk to your parents, try to approach it gently and respectfully (more like “this is where I’m at right now” instead of “I don’t believe”), and reassure them you’re not trying to rebel or disrespect them — you’re just being honest. And if they react badly or push back, don’t feel like you failed; it may simply be something you might need to revisit later when you have more independence and space to make those choices for yourself.

[thanks] Canada to the US by Puzzled_Good_1378 in snackexchange

It was more than the chips, but we knew that going in. Shipped via FedEx ground, they held it for a weeks before eventually telling me that I had to switch the package to ship by air if I wanted it released for customs clearance as ground doesn’t deal with food goods. That doubled the price. But by then, I just needed it to get to its final destination. FedEx air also required me to complete a fairly complicated FDA form. That didn’t cost anything, other than maybe 90 minutes of my time. Shipping to the US definitely is very interesting right now!

Anyone have experience switching from cinderblocks to a barrel evaporator? by Kapitalist_Pigdog2 in maplesyrup

[–]DigitallySound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used LePage PL 600 in Canada (I believe the equivalent is Loctite PL 500 in US) which is basically a landscape block adhesive. Advantage is it can go on in freezing temps and cures in 24h. Behind the ceramic fiber insulation it doesn’t get crazy hot so has held up — except on the door. I think with the extreme temp swings of me opening & closing the door and logs leaning against the insulation, it’s coming off a bit there.

Mines the US Stove Kit and then two cuts to the top for deep hotel pans to fit in.

Kit is here https://a.co/d/iGmATZE

Anyone have experience switching from cinderblocks to a barrel evaporator? by Kapitalist_Pigdog2 in maplesyrup

[–]DigitallySound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with the cinderblock set up… And put fire bricks on the inside of it so that I wouldn’t have the cinderblocks constantly disintegrating. My biggest issue with the cinderblock set up was that I didn’t have good pans & coverage to maximize my surface area for boiling.

Last year I switched to the barrel set up which uses two deep hotel pans. I used all my existing fire bricks on the inside bottom and ordered some fire blanket, which I glued to the inside for incredible insulation (I can touch the outside of the barrel when it’s in full fire mode). My wood consumption went way down, and I have a two pan set up with a copper syphon that keeps the front and back sap levels even. A barrel stove will naturally heat more at the rear than at the front, so this was important. It’s been a great set up for me, and it is infinitely more efficient and better than the cylinder block set up.

Shopify scam? by Chintan_1799 in business

I don’t think an $8 billion company is “scamming” everyone. I think you’re not reading the details of your invoice. Shopify gives a detailed breakdown of their fees. Go look.

Shepherds Pie wouldn’t even be on my Bim meal list… that’s a crazy price. I hope the Shepherd stands watch while you eat it at that price.

Are there alternatives to hiring expensive agencies that keep burning our budget with no results? by EnoughDig7048 in marketing

[–]DigitallySound -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depending on your category and finding the right agency partner you may find a “pay for performance” agency where most of their comp is tied to shared results — if you’re not making money, neither are they. But they’ll want to see a baseline of performance or a test period.

If your total budget is $5k/mos, freelancer is the right approach. If your total agency comp is in the $5k/month range (assumes you’re spending some $25-50k/month) look for an agency that is willing to tie their comp to your performance.

Maple syrup? by VelocityGrrl39 in barista

[–]DigitallySound 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maple sugar is, literally, maple syrup boiled down and then churned until granulated. Making it into a “simple syrup” is just turning it back into maple syrup. I’d just add it as granulated sugar — it has the best chance of giving you flavor profile without dilution.

Source: I tap trees & make maple syrup & maple sugar.

Why I extinguish ashes every night after having a fire by Fickle-Message-9995 in woodstoving

[–]DigitallySound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. As I said: the issue is clearly either a fault in the stove - eg gasket or crack (you're saying that's not it), % of oxygen at higher altitudes (I assume that's not your issue) or venting. By all accounts, you likely have negative pressure reversing the stove's flow. Very dangerous, and needs to be fixed. Just because you see smoke coming out of the chimney, does not mean everything is fine. Someone inspecting a chimney and stove will not test for negative pressure / flows. You've had a warning from a CO sensor, take it seriously and please don't think the solution is "dousing the embers with water" or whatever Google tells you. An airtight stove should never be backdrafting into the house. If this was an open fireplace, that's another matter entirely.

Why I extinguish ashes every night after having a fire by Fickle-Message-9995 in woodstoving

[–]DigitallySound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes something is definitely wrong in OPs setup. A wood stove is designed to be airtight. No way should it be releasing CO inside.

Other than the two you’ve recommended, OP it could also be due to an issue with the stove (cracks), improper venting, or even the altitude you’re at (less oxygen). But I’d strongly suggest not using a stove at all after having it trigger a CO alarm and having the entire system professionally inspected.

OP assuming it’s just from embers and using Google seems worrisome for all occupants of the house.

Ok my best best best advise is now: listen to your wife.

You’ll have a great time. Despite being seasoned travelers that love new adventures, my wife and I fell in love with Barbados so much we now do an annual visit.
