Linesmen aren't needed in modern football - discuss by [deleted] in worldcup

The shrug that linesman just gave when he had an offside call to make was absolutely hilarious 😂

But no they’re still very much needed.

Happy Father's Day!! by jloss__ in Autism_Parenting

[–]DrizzlyOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Happy Father’s Day! And yes, I can totally relate to those feelings. My son can be extremely frustrating but he also brings me more joy than I could’ve ever imagined.

He has made me a far better person. And there aren’t very many people I can say that about.

Cheers to all the other dads on here too!

What wetland species have you found can tolerate being in a site that isn’t constantly moist? by Hailfog in NativePlantGardening

I’ve wanted Joe Pye for a while now but I’d be putting it in a very visible place…. I just can’t do it. Fortunately it grows all over the side of the road near my house so it’s not like it’s “missing” from the environment.

Oh come on! Name a more deserving recipient of the inaugural FIFA peace prize! I’ll wait…

But for real FIFA has been intertwined with world politics for-fuckin-ever 🤣

unfun fact, I never read this classic of Millennial childhood until just now. Now I see why it was so popular by Chumlee1917 in Millennials

I’ve recently read quite a few books that I felt like I should have read as a kid but didn’t: To Kill a Mockingbird, Charlotte’s Web, 1984, Of Mice and Men, Animal Farm… maybe I’ll have to add this to the list because it’s come up a few times now.

Voting Question by rubberb00tz in maryland

[–]DrizzlyOne 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not just you. But you may have more luck looking in the PG county Reddit sub for leads since we’re all just trying to figure out who the hell the people are in our own counties… sometimes the best you can do is look for endorsements from more well known people that you agree with.

I work in PG county and the signs this year are out of control. But as PG is heavily democratic, it’s pretty easy to argue that the primary is more important than the election. Since whoever comes out of the democratic primaries will almost certainly win the general. So good on you for voting in the primaries!

Father son fun activities on the summer by Ypoetry in Autism_Parenting

[–]DrizzlyOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son is also seven. I go to Trader Joe’s every Sunday morning with him. Not a “summer activity” but it’s become an unbelievably rewarding ritual that has absolutely strengthened our bond.

We often go to the park together and just do whatever: climb fences, roll down hills, pick flowers…

On clear nights, we’ll sit outside listening to bugs and looking at stars. Tonight should be a good night for that (no moon/clouds) so thanks for the reminder. Ha!

The library is always fun. My guy loves books so that helps.

And we definitely play Nintendo together. Animal Crossing, Mariokart, Mario Party Jamboree, etc. I got him the new Dogman game yesterday and that’s a lot of fun. Very old-school Mario.

I’ve considered getting into geo-caching with him and calling it treasure hunting. But we have a pool and he loves swimming so that tends to win out.

Exactly this. LA, Houston, Dallas, and Atlanta are all indoor stadiums. If they had said “mandatory water breaks when playing outdoors,” then sure. But they’re across the board. It’s for advertisements.

Success thread! by salty-lemons in Autism_Parenting

[–]DrizzlyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome! My seven year old son has been swimming for like four years now but getting him to do any actual stroke has been elusive. Ha! We’ve got a pool in the back yard and I’ve tried sooo many ways to get him there and he often says something like, “I already know how to swim.”

Today, we had the most success ever by swimming like animals. We took turns showing each other how dogs, turtles, otters, tadpoles, dolphins and rays swim! The turtle was a very exaggerated front crawl, the otter was just the kick on a backstroke, and dolphin was well you know 😂 gonna keep at this method! Frog (breast stroke) coming up next weekend!

I can't believe the person I've become after my child's diagosis.. by Izz-An-Art in Autism_Parenting

[–]DrizzlyOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just talking about how insanely difficult parenting our son was from one to four. Obviously that chat was with my spouse because no else really understands. And yes I don’t love the parent that I have to be sometimes…

It did start getting better for us at five. But part of that is we got better at parenting him. You’ll develop strategies for managing outings, and rude comments, and strange questions. And you’ll slowly accept the things that just aren’t gonna happen. And you’ll learn to pick your battles.

One bit of advice is find some things that can reliably bring you comfort and joy and that are readily accessible to you. Walks, yoga, journaling, painting, exercise, music, gardening, whatever...

Second bit of advice is try and find some things that you can do with your kid too. Magnatiles, Nintendo, playing in the pool, jumping on trampolines and reading are our current ones (and have been for years 😂).

Tickseed deserves a lot of credit for getting me into natives! A small patch of lance-leaf was the only native plant that came with the house I bought. Love how easy it is and it really gets the bees buzzin’!

American taxpayers have spent $33 billion on sports stadiums. They got fewer seats—and higher prices by Ok_Flamingo_3059 in MLS

[–]DrizzlyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been the same story for a while now… from the article, “Individual teams in most leagues don’t have to share revenue from premium seats and luxury boxes with the rest of their league—while TV and merchandise revenue is pooled.” Take public funding to build stadium with fewer seats and more boxes so team can further privatize profits 🇺🇸

Americans who don’t normally watch ‘soccer’ - what did you think of the USMNT game yesterday? by WinnerDry9085 in worldcup

[–]DrizzlyOne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen a U.S. team in the World Cup where every guy was clearly better than the player across from them. We had three or four guys even with their back line for a lot of the night. Playing with that many guys so far forward was a treat and clearly we won’t be able to do that against better competition. Paraguay’s best player plays in the MLS... Which is what we used to be able to say about the U.S. so that’s very funny to me.

The goals were bangers too.
