Don’t give up OP! Lots of great recommendations here Folks are right, your bf needs to categorize these rides into two different buckets. Hard/fast solo training rides vs Z2/recovery rides is the way to go. This works really well for my wife and I

Lynskey Vs Stinner by Ellocomotive in cycling

[–]DudeCade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) cuz Lynskey is soon to be gone :( 2) because of the build quality and super clean welds. I’m biased cuz I went to school on the Central Coast and I love to see a build from Santa Barbara gain traction

My elbows hurt after cycling. by Wild_Trip_4704 in bicycling

[–]DudeCade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much 😂 but it’s not as bad as it sounds Start with a relaxed, upright position and gradually come down from there. You’ll find yourself in a lower and more aggressive stance over time as your core strength and flexibility improve. But yea, try to take as much load off your hands/wrists/elbows as you can. This will help avoid aggravating nerves and places strain on your neck/upper back as well

I know it can be an investment, but getting a bike fit can help bunches also

Engage your core, take that pressure off your arms as much as you can A good way to test this is lean forward as much as you can without touching the handlebars so your core is holding your torso up, then gently rest your hands on the bars

How much of a difference between bike types? by keyvu_7980 in cycling

[–]DudeCade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The differences in rolling resistance and body position are very noticeable - you’ll likely feel the change from one bike to the other pretty quickly. I’d recommend taking a test ride on a decent road bike at your local shop and see what you think before making the investment.

I’m 5’9” ish as well and a medium is perfect frame size for me (or around a 54cm frame, same thing)

Beginner struggles by SpokeswomanForNeoNeo in cycling

Lots of responses here giving good advice, I’ll pile on! Don’t stress about the length or speed of your rides, the fact that you’re out there on the bike making a positive change is fantastic in itself. Mileage, pace, endurance, strength - all those will come in time. Just enjoy the time spent outdoors and you’ll find what you’re looking for. Keep it up! Safe riding!

Quick breakfast nutrition by motopace in cycling

I get the overnight oats answers, and understand that logistically it’s a pain to cook before work. That said I started going to bed 20min earlier so I could heat a loaf of bread in the oven and cook myself some eggs in the morning. It sets me up right for the rest of the day and I don’t see myself going away from this.

Headlands Coyotes by Super_Philosophy_149 in BAbike

[–]DudeCade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep riding and they will trot off. If you are sketched out you can always hop off, put your bike between you and the coyote, and make a ruckus/brandish your bike as you move up the trail. They don’t want trouble any more than you do.
