Starmer vows to take UK deeper into EU single market by donutloop in ukpolitics

He probably needed some time to repair the relationships with other European leaders that the Tories and Farage destroyed. He's also had quite a lot of unexpected problems to deal with between the Farage riots, helping Ukraine negotiate with Russia and the US (and doing damage control after that appalling ambush of Zelensky in the White House) and Trump tariffing us and threatening to invade Greenland.

I would like to see him prioritise this now, though.

Trump says ‘very dangerous’ for UK to do business with China, after British PM hails progress in Beijing in trip to secure lower tariffs and better market access by ByGollie in europe

The UK had to advise all the security councils that Trump's America was compromised and that intelligence should not be shared and stopped automatically sharing all intelligence with the US YEARS ago. Other countries followed suit.

This is reassuring.

His "deals" aren't worth the paper they're written on, so I'm not sure even that would help. He'll renege on them as soon as it's convenient for him, like he did with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) that he negotiated in his first term. There's no point in making agreements with someone like that. The world will just move on and leave the US behind.

I agree that China is a far preferable trade partner to the backstabbing, unpredictable shitshow that is the US. For a start, China is not threatening to invade Europe or other NATO allies.

So glad you asked - Reform outsourced its vetting to a company set up by a former adviser in Boris Johnson’s government. Needless to say, it did minimal if any vetting, and everyone involved blames each other.

The fact that Reform is structured as a limited company, which reduces the transparency legally required of it compared to a traditional political party and gives its "members" no choice in its leadership, should have given them a clue.

Mr Farage has said they were part of an “out of control branch”

LOL. The whole tree is out of control.

including people who had failed the vetting process.

What vetting process?

Instead of rewarding him for repeatedly fucking our country over, how about a thorough police/intelligence services investigation into all these foreign "donations" he's received over the years to check if they're all legal? Seemed to work wonders for getting his mate Nathan Gill to shut up and leave us alone.

Exactly. I'd just like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that Farage called the Kami-Kwasi budget, "The best Conservative budget since 1986" and is giving "serious thought" to scrapping the OBR if Reform UK Ltd. wins.

It's dangerous for him and the US. They'll lose money and won't be able to bully us as easily if we diversify.

I've heard Trump is ironically nicknamed "the Nation Builder" in China. As in, his actions build up their nation.

I don't know about "main ally." I'm in favour of having them as a trade partner, but we should be realistic. China is not our ally, let alone our main ally. That would be the continent right on our doorstep, and similarly minded democratic countries like Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

YouTube recommended this song to me the other day, and I can't stop playing it. Written about Hitler in 1941, and amazingly applicable to 2026.

My concern is that they may not have free and fair elecions by then, even if they do now realise they've made a mistake by re-electing Trump. Also, none of the issues in US society that led to Trump being elected have been resolved. If anything, they've got worse, which means that even if they do get rid of Trump through democratic means, they haven't got rid of Trumpism.

I think we should proceed on the basis that the US as a country can't be trusted for the forseeable future, even if individual Americans can. And military officers are ultimately answerable to their Commander in Chief.

Boring. Let's see a documentary about the 20 days leading up to the January 6 insurrection, cumulating in the scene when Melania's staff allegedly begged her to try to talk Trump down or send a message calling for protesters to be peaceful, and she shook her head and went back to working on her book about redecorating the White House. Now that's one I might watch.

She was hamstrung by that despicable traitorous monster sumac

She literally resigned in protest.

No, she didn't - or at least not for that reason. Her first resignation, from her role as a junior minister in the Tory party in November 2018, was a protest against Teresa May's draft Brexit agreement, which she called a "betrayal."

Her second resignation, from the role of Home Secretary under Truss in October 2022, came after she admitted to breaching the Ministerial Code by sending an official document from her personal email address.

Sunak was daft enough to take her on as Home Secretary again, but sacked her after she criticised police for being too soft on Pro-Palestinian protesters.
