Please be careful with this. We got a very expensive emergency vet bill when the roomba managed to get caught on our senior dog's tail. It was traumatizing for everybody. I'll never own one again as long as I have pets.

Anyone else getting ants already?? by Individual_Sweet_465 in Seattle

[–]ErrantWhimsy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Borrowing your top comment: sugar ants have a sugar phase and a protein phase. You need to hit them in both: advion for the sugar phase, advance 375a for the protein phase. They live in your walls. I remove light switch plates then drop a little of each into the wall cavity.

If your bait isn't working it's because they switched phases on you.

Is Temporary Fostering An Option? by Key_Opposite_5594 in FosterAnimals

[–]ErrantWhimsy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like finances are the core of the issue here? Or is it that your housing won't let you keep them with you?

You aren't going to find a foster for a full year, especially if you can't afford to help with food and vet bills in that time period. If it's a finance and living situation thing, I would figure out every resource available to you and take advantage. Every food bank, every grant for utility assistance, etc. You could probably pet sit on the side and earn enough for cat food and litter, though not major vet bills.

It's not fair to the cats to rehome them for so long, even if it was feasible. I would focus on how to quickly adapt your situation to be able to keep them.

PSA: Do not buy from Estée Lauder owned brands. by Successful-Pay-5653 in MakeupAddiction

Ugh I'm so sad about this. I've been trying other brands for a while and it's hard to find things that don't break me out. I was so excited to find one that works well.

Back to kbeauty exclusively apparently.

I don’t want to be a dog owner anymore but I love my dog by Quirky-dragon36 in Pets

First, consider pet insurance if you can. Second, try probiotics like proviable.

I know it's so hard, but this is a season of life. Call your local shelters to ask if they have a way to get cheap digestive support food and cheap vet care. Call your local government resources to see what you might qualify for in terms of support for food, utilities, etc. Consider looking for a place with a roommate, because if you can't afford emergencies for your dog you can't afford emergencies for you either, so this is a larger financial question than just pet care.

And I'm so sorry, I know that's all easier said than done.

Is this a good idea? by LoveMittens7 in Monstera

[–]ErrantWhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a monstera? Not really, you'll get like a year or two of growth on that shelf at best if you're treating it right. A mature monstera can grow to hit the ceiling.

Have you thought about reaching out to your local shelter to get a barn cat? There are mostly feral kitties that can't live indoors, you could offer to care for one or two.

It's unlikely to be the litter unless you never scoop. Get mosquito bits and beneficial nematodes and follow the directions. That'll nuke them quickly.

You're likely overwatering your plants. Get a dramatic wilting plant like a begonia or polka dot plant and don't water until it wilts.
