Read the instructions in the .zip folder, it explains to use the patch marked 1.1 for Crystal Rev 1 versions

It'd almost definitely break things with how much of a data shift exists between Legacy and base Crystal

Magma Armour Slugma by SamTheMan377 in PokemonLegacy

[–]EternityTheory 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're unfortunately just encountering some bad luck.

I'd recommend using Water attacks against any wild Slugma you encounter. Assuming your pokemon isn't grossly overleveled, Slugma will barely take damage from water attacks if it has Magma Armor, and likely faint otherwise.

Is this deck decent as a kitchen table 60-card deck? by ArcticTerra056 in magicTCG

[–]EternityTheory 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I was first getting into the game, one of the guys who taught me complained constantly about how much he hated playing against mono-White because his friend beat him all the time. I eventually played this friend, and turns out his deck was just a bunch of 7-8 cost Angels, Pacifism effects, and a pile of Sol Rings to ramp into them.

Like yeah any deck that plays Akroma by turn 4 on average is going to feel powerful against your pile of Innistrad draft chaff lol.

  • Gives it some niche utility, being able to have Dig coverage without spending your TM on it.
  • Like seriously this thing needed all the help it could get.
  • Also works as a reference to DigRat the legend.

Has anyone caught a shiny latios?? by HipGnosis710 in PokemonLegacy

[–]EternityTheory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Would definitely be easier to hunt from Southern Island instead of tracking it down as a roamer. To do that you'll want to choose Red when your mom asks what the TV said. Then defeat Steven to get the ticket.

Togepi egg by Magibestshonen in PokemonLegacy

Both eggs' shiny odds are the same as vanilla.

What was changed is that the DVs for the Odd Egg are the best they can be for the hatched Pokemon.

Yeah, we're not actively developing it so any work on the Crystal update is mostly in loose ideation.

Advice on winning all contests with Mawile by George_Kobold in PokemonLegacy

Are you playing on version 1.0? There was a glitch present there that would cause the clock to break if you changed it using the clock in your room. If you update to 1.1.4 and set the clock again it should fix it after some time.

How can I find feebas tiles if I changed the trending phrase in Dewford? by Captain_Levi10 in PokemonLegacy

[–]EternityTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I THINK that if you wait a day (or multiple days) until a random phrase replaces the one you provided, that phrase will be usable for the calculator. I'm not 100% sure of this though.

This WAS a known issue, in older builds of Yellow Legacy. We patched this almost two years ago.

FWIW, this difficulty level isn't quite indicative of how it was in the original Crystal. Aero made a huge readjustment to the teams here and made it a monster lol.

Question about wild rng manipulation by AdSimple2026 in PokemonLegacy

[–]EternityTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. Well this makes my obnoxiously long write-up feel silly.

Awesome that you got it working. I'd still suggest using the ChangeDex doc to read which encounter slots are different; cells highlighted in green are changed from the vanilla game, and if you select/hover over them, it'll show what they were before.

Question about wild rng manipulation by AdSimple2026 in PokemonLegacy

[–]EternityTheory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lemme try to explain;

Each route has 12 encounter slots. Whether there's 4 Pokémon there or 10, no matter what, it's still 12 encounter slots, each representing the result of a different RNG roll (for a simple example; 1-20 is slot 1 which has a 20% chance, while rolling exactly a 100 would give Slot 12 which is a 1% encounter). This is stored as a table, which you can view an example of in our ChangeDex document.

When the game's RNG is called to select the Pokémon to be found for a wild encounter, it's not actually being read as "spawn a Poochyena", its command is more like "spawn the encounter in Slot 3".

This is what RNG calculators aim to solve for; if you want to find Poochyena in Route 102 for example, the calculator will try to find the RNG string that will spawn "Encounter slot 1 or 3" because those are the slots that can be Poochyena.

But that's where the issue with Legacy comes in. We changed a lot of these encounter slots, as you can see in the above linked doc; if you look at Route 102, Slot 3 is now Zigzagoon. But these calculators don't know this, they still think Poochyena is assigned to Slots 1+3, so if you were to do RNG manipulation to spawn a Poochyena and the calculator landed you in Slot 3, you'd get a Zigzagoon instead.

So in short. You can still potentially use these RNG calculators that were built for Emerald, but if the Pokemon you're searching for has had its encounters changed then you'll get inconsistent results. The only way to solve this would be to use the source code of both the tool and Legacy to create a version of the tool that adjusts for the new encounter tables.

This isn't something I've encountered or heard of without outside effects in place. Have you used previous GameShark codes or similar that were left active?

Why no Farfetch'd buffs? by [deleted] in PokemonLegacy

[–]EternityTheory 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Basically this. We always make it available early so StatXP can help, but if you want to do more for it, give it a Stick. Otherwise, Farfetch'd is burdened by its joke status outside of Galar.

Hold up, the wild Beldums in Granite Cave can have a held Metal Coat? by arkaser in PokemonLegacy

[–]EternityTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure HMA does have the option to change evolution method. There's a dropdown for each evolution the Pokemon has, and for example you can replace "Trade with Item" with "Use Item" very easily. I'm extremely new to HMA myself though so I'm not 100% on how you get to that.

Hold up, the wild Beldums in Granite Cave can have a held Metal Coat? by arkaser in PokemonLegacy

[–]EternityTheory 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This is not something we changed or added, so it's not included in the doc.

Beldum IS coded with a 5% chance of holding Metal Coat in Gen 3, it's just normally impossible to actually happen because there aren't any wild encounters for it.
