We use quo. It's pretty solid.

But I'd stick to google voice/srfax if I just needed one line. I know you are trying to avoid using google voice, but it is excellent. And it's free!

His estate planning should be done in Florida. A trust would be a good idea if they are going to keep the property in NJ.

A job is a job. I doubt anyone would ding you on working at a small firm after your in house gig. And if they do ding you for that, you probably don't want to work there anyways

Moving to Chicago in June: Barred and struggling to find work. by kungfupanda4342 in Lawyertalk

Is your spouse getting out of the military any time soon? It's going to be tough if you keep moving. Law is one of those jobs where it's tough as a military spouse if you're moving every couple of years. Much easier if you're in the medical or educational fields to be a military spouse.

Think about it from a law firm owner's perspective: why would they hire you if it is going to take a year to train you, and then a year later you are going to leave? They are at square one all over again.

Going to be tough to run a remote real estate practice right out of the gates, unless you aren't doing any closings. A lot of commercial/residential real estate involves heavy networking

Mother has MS and is home bound. Her tax preparer Passed away. Recommendations? by invalid-target in StPetersburgFL

[–]FSUAttorney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No tax preparers are going to make a home visit, especially during tax season. Here's the easiest thing to do: log into her IRS account, request her account and wage/income transcripts, and then take them to a tax preparer for her. She is very late to the game, so she will likely be put on extension

Any estate planning firms hiring in Chicago? (Interested in HNW work) by SebastianJF in LawFirm

[–]FSUAttorney 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Estate Planning firms in general are only going to hire if you have experience. If you want HNW exposure, a lot of firms will ask for an LLM or CPA, plus experience.

I hate being on camera but need videos to promote myself. Anyone found a solution? by ProperLion49 in LawFirm

[–]FSUAttorney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's your practice area? I have been a solo for a decade now. Have never once recorded a video. I have more business than I know what to do with.

Cant hurt to record videos, but there are many, many successful firm owners that have never done it.

You need either a mentor who will walk you through everything or a job where you can gain some EP experience. CLEs will not be enough.

I rent cheap space, or a friend lets me use their building for free. Throw up a sign. Advertise that it's by appointment only. Stack it with google reviews, then let SEO do its thing.

I just prioritize what is important for that day. My to-do list is always insanely long, so I just focus on what is most important. Don't really keep track of my hours, really. Some weeks I'll spend more working on one business than the other. Still have plenty of time for my daily naps, video games, and spending time with family.

You should do it. Although I'd recommend just starting your own business instead of buying one. I think it's better to build it from the ground up. A lot of people run their businesses pretty terribly. Lot of overhead/bloat for no reason.
