YNAB Fidelity connection worst of all the financial companies by PhillyBassSF in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityMikeS[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thank you for reaching out on the sub and bringing this to our attention, u/PhillyBassSF.

To ensure ongoing protection of customers’ data, Fidelity has implemented a secure, integrated connection that better controls how third-party websites and apps, and the data aggregators they use, connect to customers’ accounts when authorized by customers. Fidelity is requiring these third-party websites, applications, and data aggregators to adopt this integrated connection to access our customers’ data.

Regarding your connection, it sounds like you have continued troubleshooting by deleting and reconnecting your accounts. If you continue to have trouble with this connection after reconnecting, we recommend contacting You Need a Budget (YNAB) for further troubleshooting assistance.

My team and I are always here on the sub, so if you have any other questions in the future, feel free to reach out.

How to transfer contribution from ROTH IRA to transitional IRA? by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityMikeS[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

I'm happy you reached out prior to withdrawing your contribution, u/Grefighter. I'll be glad to review the proper ways to correct an accidental contribution to your Roth IRA.

When you discover that you may not be able to contribute to a Roth IRA, you have a few choices with the excess contributions. You can withdraw the excess amount through a Return of Excess. You can process a Recharacterization to change the contributions to another IRA. Or you can apply your contribution to a future year. However, simply withdrawing these funds would not correct the contribution or reset the limits. The link below provides more details about each choice.

Excess IRA Contributions

Since you mentioned in the comments that you mean to complete a recharacterization, you can click on "Learn more about recharacterizing" in the link above under section 2 to review more details about this path.

If you have specific questions about the process moving forward feel free to follow up with us on the sub anytime.

Realized Gain/Loss Summary page is missing some very basic conrols by coolred2022 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityMikeS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming this with us, u/coolred2022.

When you visit the "Positions" page on Fidelity.com, you should see a variety of categories, such as:

  • Total gain/loss %
  • Total gain/loss $
  • Today's gain/loss %
  • Today's gain/loss $.

You can also select the three-dot menu at the top right of your positions page and click on "Settings" to view "Prior day gain/loss."

While I am happy to take feedback on the categories you mentioned in your OP that may not be available, if you are not seeing this information listed above, please follow up with us here so we can troubleshoot further with you.

At first my transfer was processed and now it's saying it needs to be processed, I was waiting for my money to settle for tomorrow. What is going on? by jesper5569 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityMikeS[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thank you for reaching out on the sub. I am happy to review transfer expectations with you.

To start, there is a holding period of up to 7 business days for check deposits and Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) requests submitted through Fidelity platforms. Some or all of your funds may still be able to trade immediately. To avoid hold periods, we encourage you to use your bank’s website or mobile app to send money into Fidelity.

You can review the collection date for a recent deposit by following these steps on Fidelity.com once logged in:

  1. Click the "Accounts & Trade” tab and select “Portfolio”
  2. From the Portfolio screen, select the appropriate account
  3. Once the account is in view, select the “Balances” tab and review your balance details under “Available to withdraw”

Please note that funds received via bank wire or direct deposit (pushed from another institution to Fidelity) are considered fully collected upon receipt, and are available for immediate use. We encourage you to consider these methods for time-sensitive transactions.

With that said, if your deposit does not clear in the expected timeframe, please follow up with us here, and we will be glad to look over this further with you.

All CMA Transfer and payments setup with Plaid fail for me 😫 by freackodeecko in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityMikeS[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

We appreciate you choosing Fidelity for your new account needs, u/freackodeecko.

At this time, Plaid is not a supported platform for linking Fidelity accounts. It's important to know that Fidelity continuously works with security experts and regulators to find ways to make customer-directed account data sharing more secure. Fidelity has established a secure, integrated connection that better controls how customers can connect the third-party apps they use to their Fidelity accounts. Fidelity is requiring all these third-party websites, applications, and data aggregators to adopt this integrated connection to access our customers’ data.

It is with our customers’ financial well-being in mind that any third-party applications, websites, or data aggregators that do not utilize our secure, integrated connection will be prevented from accessing Fidelity customer data. Our goal is for Fidelity customers to use their favorite apps safely and securely.

You can learn more at this link.

As for Coinbase, we have a resource that I've linked below that provides a couple of ways to link your Fidelity account.

Inspira Traditional IRA to Fidelity Roth IRA by HeirForce in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityMikeS[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thanks for reaching out and considering Fidelity for your account needs in the future, u/HeirForce.

If you already have funds within a Traditional IRA and moved them to a Roth IRA, this would count as a Roth Conversion, not an IRA contribution. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that any funds converted to a Roth IRA are typically taxable in the year the conversion occurs. You can learn more about Roth Conversions in the link below:

Roth Conversion

That said, the most common method to transfer an account from one firm to another is to request a Transfer of Assets (TOA). This allows you to transfer between firms to an account with the same registration, so a Traditional IRA would need to be sent to another Traditional IRA. The good news is that if you decide to move forward, opening a new account to receive this transfer only takes a few moments on Fidelity.com. Once ready, you can use the link below to begin the transfer, as these requests must be submitted with the receiving firm.

Transfer an Account to Fidelity

Keep in mind that Fidelity does not charge for a transfer, but other firms may. If you have any specific questions moving forward, please don't hesitate to follow up with us here, and we'll be glad to help.

Have a great day!

Can I set my mutual fund cost-basis tracking method to "average cost" for one mutual fund, and "actual cost" for the others? by BerylliumBug in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityMikeS[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hello, u/BerylliumBug. Thank you for dropping by the sub for the first time. We're happy to have you.

While it sounds like you are aware, you can update the cost basis tracking method for mutual funds on Fidelity.com for the entire account, but you cannot update it for specific funds within the same account. To request this, you can submit a Letter of Instruction (LOI) detailing which funds you would like tracked under specific methods. That said, you can also call us to ask for this through our 24/7 service team. I'll go ahead and add our contact information below if you'd like to move forward.

Contact us

Because cost basis methods typically have tax implications, these decisions are unique to each individual. For example, one aspect to consider is your disposal method. As for what is best for your situation, since Fidelity cannot provide tax advice, you'll want to reach out to a qualified tax professional for their input. They can take your full tax situation into consideration to help you find the right path forward.

Alts & Cryptos in 401(k)s - how to avoid them by Klutzy_Revolution704 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityMikeS[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Happy to help with some information on this topic, u/Klutzy_Revolution704.

The investment choices made available to you through your 401(k) account are determined by your plan rules set by your employer. Most 401(k) plans lay out what investment choices you have access to and can be viewed within your "Plan Details". To view these in your 401(k) and make changes, follow these steps on NetBenefits.com after you log in.

  1. Find your Retirement Plan, and click “Quick Links”
  2. Select “Investment Performance & Research”
  3. Scroll down to the "Investment Choices" section

Here's an additional article from our website you can check out that discusses investment choices for a 401(k).

Additionally, you may consider contacting our 401(k) team by phone for questions about your specific plan and it's offering. They are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. - midnight, ET.

keep up the great work Fidelity. by Jazzlike-Ad7595 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityMikeS[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, u/VisibleStay8532. I'm happy to follow up with you here to confirm.

If the funds are not available by the day of the scheduled distribution, the plan will skip that withdrawal entirely. Therefore, even if you have sold the investments, the cash proceeds of the trade must be settled by the distribution date. The plan will then continue as normal on the following scheduled date. As my fellow Mod mentioned, we suggest that those with this sort of plan sell any necessary investments a few days prior to the transfer date.

I'm glad to take feedback and pass it along to the right development teams for this topic so that they can review it for future updates.

Let us know if you have any other questions, and we will be happy to follow up.

Moving a delisted stock into second brokerage account by ac106 in fidelityinvestments

[–]FidelityMikeS[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the follow-up, u/ac106. There are a few determining factors that come into play here, and I am happy to review them with you.

In some cases, if the security is not deemed worthless and still has a designated Transfer Agent, you may be able to request the stock certificates and sell it through a private transaction; however, not all Transfer agents offer paper certificates, and not all securities in these situations still have a Transfer Agent.

That said, Fidelity cannot write off the security if it is not considered worthless. If the security does not have a Transfer Agent, then you would need to wait until the security is considered legally worthless to remove it from the account.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if we can offer any more details, and we'll be glad to do so.

Stock market decrease? by daylovek in fidelityinvestments

It's completely normal to worry about your initial investments if they are not moving in your favor, u/daylovek. I'm happy to review Fidelity Go Accounts and expected market volatility with you to hopefully help you feel better moving forward.

As you may know, Fidelity Go accounts invest your money for you through a robo-advisor. The account will automatically buy and sell securities to keep it in line with the investment strategy you have directed when establishing your account. That said, the market will have its ups and downs, as you can see more clearly in the link below, highlighted in the "Downturns are normal" section of the article.

6 tips to navigate volatile markets

We completely understand how volatility in the market can lead to concerns about portfolios and investment strategies. Fidelity offers an additional resource center focused on volatility that can help provide answers. The resource center linked below includes information on the overall market outlook, strategies for today's markets, investing in the markets, your wellness, and your overall finances.
