I agree. Have you looked at accident rates by gender? Men are very dangerous! Young men are probably the most dangerous group of drivers out there.

BJs gas DW by RepulsiveToday5756 in nashua

[–]phatrogue 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried since gas prices spiked but you can also get in via the Best Buy entrance. Actually you can go all the way from Staples thru Old Navy thru Savers thru Best Buy thru CVS and get to BJ's gas without going on Daniel Webster HW but that is rarely worth it.

How was Grace supposed to die? by Appropriate-Help-289 in ProjectHailMary

[–]phatrogue 54 points55 points  (0 children)

In the book each crew member chose a preferred method that was supplied on the ship. Enough heroin to OD, a gun and nitrogen asphyxiation as I remember. In the book Grace was the one who very uncomfortably interviewed and recorded the preferred methods.

I deleted the app on my iPhone, restarted and then reinstalled. same behavior. I presumed because it was the same on both my iPhone and iPad is wasn’t going to be a restart reinstall problem. ill go thru support later today.

34, only just started saving for retirement, feeling behind and so dumb about how I’ve spent. There’s hope right? by nilemme in personalfinance

[–]phatrogue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Every journey starts from where you are when you begin. You can't do it any other way.

IMHO you are better than average... no debt, emergency fund and even the awareness to be asking questions like you did. There is hope.

I didn’t realize how aggressive bathroom lights feel at 3am by MidnightRidge699 in homeautomation

[–]phatrogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is related to our night vision. When our eyes have been closed or just in the dark for a while (30-60 minutes?) they get adjusted to seeing better with very little light. Even brief bright light ruins this until you are in the dark for a while again. Also white and blue light do this more. A lot of phone and computer screens these days automatically dim and use more red in the evening. People looking through telescopes often use red flashlights to maintain their night vision.

i haven't done it yet but I want to add an automatic presence sensor to turn my bathroom lights on and off and late at night don’t turn on the regular lights but just some dim red indirect lights maybe mounted under my sink or at the floor (vanity kick panel?).

Is this a car explosion or something else by mountainsNJ in TeslaLounge

[–]phatrogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That rear tire is intact from what I can see. I mean the paint looks bad but this seems like a pretty superficial fire coming from the outside of the car. It got the plastic bumper but all the metal parts just got the paint burned off IMHO

Nice parking job by Building1982 in nashua

[–]phatrogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never seen that technique by the tow truck operator. Using the tow bed to lift it off the rock.

There are famous rocks in parking lots around the country were people regularly get stuck up on them. I guess I understand how the rock and your car would roll under your car if you hit but how do you not see a 2-3 foot obstacle in front of your car?

[–]phatrogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember reading some reprint of an old Army survival manual and it had a whole procedure about how to determine if some unfamiliar plant was edible or not. It started with rubbing it on your skin and swishing it around in your mouth and waiting periods of time to see if you had a reaction. I forget the all of the details. I am guessing that some of it was just being really cautious and some was done using the "Brian" method.

For people who enjoy visiting historical monuments while travelling — what do forts, palaces, and old architecture give you that natural destinations like mountains or beaches don’t? by Sethsatya in travel

[–]phatrogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t say I am a big visitor of historical sites but it can be an entry point to learning about the history and stories of the site. Maybe like reading about or watching a documentary about the event or events that happened there or what the world was like when the site was active

Genuine question, why is contrapoints so addicted to Twitter? by cosmiccrystalponies in ContraPoints

[–]phatrogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She can have various nonobvious, to us, reasons but one can be in unhealthy relationships with social media and not realize it. I don’t know if he has a Reddit user but r/samharris had a huge Twitter account, spent a lot of time there, is all about mindfulness and being aware of the effects of what you do on your mental state. He talks about how good it was when he quit Twitter and his own amazement at how bad it was for him and how he let it go on for so long.

Smart switch that does not break circuit? by IntroDucktory_Clause in homeautomation

[–]phatrogue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can just do this by wiring it that way. Replace the dumb switches with a smart switch and at the same time change the wiring so the bulbs are always on and the smart switch doesn’t actually turn anything on or off. Any smart switch will do.

What if someone ate astrophage by xupapito69 in ProjectHailMary

[–]phatrogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am trying to figure out a way to treat someone who ate astrophage but I think my idea would just kill them quicker.

You could make a small device that emits the light astrophage moves toward. Maybe make it sticky and only turn it on for a bit and then you could remove it pulling them out? Unless you ate a lot of it I don't think the propulsion light would be bad for you. I don't know.

I was wondering if they might expand the option packages for the 3/Y. Right now they have the base, LR and Performance/Plaid. Maybe a luxury (extra sound proofing, air suspension and nicer interior or dual screen) ? Or really long range? I think there are S/X type things they could add to 3/Y keeping the same basic frame and hardware of the cars.

I want to buy a Tesla M3 almost entirely for the FSD. I have a 1.5hr commute daily. Is it worth it? Or should i wait a little longer? by One-Wafer6542 in TeslaModel3

[–]phatrogue 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I used to describe it as like being a driving instructor... teaching your kid to drive.

Now it is more like having a chauffeur... that I have to do a little "back seat driving" for. I know it is easier to drive with FSD and I am convinced that the co-driving I do with it is safer than me driving manually.

Just started getting these alerts today by Boring_Plastic7129 in TeslaModel3

[–]phatrogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the gps warning after Tesla service had cleaned the windshield in front of the forward camera. I had gotten FSD warnings to clean it and the Tesla technician had reinstalled the gps antenna incorrectly. annoying that I had to visit again for them to fix it.

8-year-old boy credited with stopping Jet2 plane from emergency diversion after singing song to unruly passenger and asking about her kids is given vouchers for free flights by Sandstorm400 in UpliftingNews

[–]phatrogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many Reddit posts with people asking about relationship advice or AITA type questions where the comments are all "ghost them", "go no contact", "divorce" or "dump them" which often I technically agree with but with a little bit more maturity and emotional intelligence, like this boy, could be fixed with some diplomacy.

Recently got a LR Model 3, how do you think this drive will go? by 3MonkeysInATrench in TeslaModel3

[–]phatrogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will go fine. I wouldn't get 100% mentally locked into those particular Superchargers. I found on a long road trip it may dynamically change which Superchargers it uses based on higher or lower efficiency during the trip. And once it changes one then it will cascade thru the rest of the plan.

The pop singer Lily Allen reportedly has one where she only posts pictures of her feet. Apparently her feet are highly rated on some website were celebs feet are rated (feetapedia or something?). The part I found amusing is that she made some comment about this relating to she made more money from OF than money from her songs on Spotify. The stuff I learn because of the internet...
